Ajit Mishra – SVP, Research, Religare Broking
Markets began the week on a volatile note and extended their recent decline, ending lower by nearly half a percent. Early weakness, driven by selling in IT stocks amid concerns over the H-1B visa fee hike, was partly offset by a rebound from the day’s low. Sentiment also found some support from the GST rate cuts that came into effect today, which helped limit losses during the first half. However, sustained pressure from heavyweight stocks dragged the index lower as the session progressed, with the Nifty finally settling at 25,202.35.
On the sectoral front, IT, Pharma, and FMCG stocks remained under pressure, while energy and metal sectors showed resilience and closed in the green. Broader indices also slipped, declining by nearly 0.5%–1.0%.

Osho Krishan, Sr. Analyst – Technical & Derivatives, Angel One
The Indian equity markets experienced volatility following the weekend announcements regarding the H-1B visa. Consequently, the benchmark index commenced the trading session on a slightly weaker note. Initially, the bulls demonstrated resilience; however, as the day progressed, the broader markets underwent profit booking. This led to a decline in the Nifty50 index, which fell to 25200, reflecting a decrease of 0.49 percent for the day.
The profit booking that commenced last week has exerted a considerable influence on the market, driven by macro factors. This development suggests a temporary cessation of the momentum observed earlier this month. Nevertheless, the technical chart structures continue to reflect a strong underlying trend, with price dips presenting favorable opportunities for buyers.
From a technical perspective, the Nifty50 index has retested the neckline of the 'Double Bottom' breakout, which is a promising indicator moving forward. On the levels front, the range of 25100-25000 constitutes a significant support zone, as it corresponds with the 20-DEMA and a bullish gap observed on the daily charts. Provided that this zone remains intact, it is advisable to pursue long positions in proximity to these support levels. On the other hand, 25300-25350 is likely to serve as intermediate resistance, while the recent high of 25449 may act as a significant barrier for now, and only a decisive breakthrough could reignite momentum.
Going forward, traders are encouraged to take a measured approach by maintaining lighter positions, as this may better prepare them for the anticipated volatility in the upcoming sessions. Additionally, one must maintain exclusivity in stock selection from a trading perspective.

Vinod Nair, Head of Research, Geojit Investments
The domestic market traded on a lower note amid a sharp increase in H-1B visa costs, which weighed on the IT index, while mid- and small-cap stocks saw profit-booking following recent gains.
GST rationalisation, a normal monsoon, lower interest rates, and tax incentives are expected to support consumption, narrowing the gap between valuations and growth prospects.
Foreign investors are gradually turning buyers, driven by expectations of earnings upgrades in H2FY25, with consumption-focused sectors likely to attract attention and support the market.

Shrikant Chouhan, Head Equity Research, Kotak Securities:
The benchmark indices continued profit booking at higher levels, with the Nifty ending 125 points lower while the Sensex was down by 466 points. Among sectors, the IT index was the top loser, shedding nearly 3 percent, whereas intraday buying was seen in selective energy and digital stocks.
Technically, after a gap-down open, the market witnessed intraday recovery, but due to consistent profit booking at higher levels in the second half, it corrected sharply. A lower top on intraday charts and a bearish candle on daily charts indicate further weakness from the current levels.
We are of the view that, as long as market is trading above 25300/82500 the weak sentiment is likely to continue. On the down side, it could slip till 25100-25050/82000-81700. On the flip side, 25,300/82500 would act as a crucial resistance zone for day traders. If the market manages to trade above this level, it could move up to 25,400–25,425/82800-83000.
The current market texture is volatile; hence, level-based trading would be the ideal strategy for day traders.

The Indian rupee is dwindling toward a record low as market participants scrutinise the likely repercussions of the US's new $100,000 H-1B visa levy. This development could precipitate a slowdown in remittance growth and curtail service exports to the US. In the near term, the trajectory for the spot USDINR remains ascent-inclined, with a bedrock of support at 88 and overhead resistance at 88.45.

Sudeep Shah, Head - Technical Research and Derivatives at SBI Securities.
The benchmark index Nifty began the week on a weak note, opening with a downside gap largely triggered by a selloff in the IT sector. The decline in Nifty IT was driven by geopolitical concerns after U.S. President Donald Trump announced a hefty $100000 fee on fresh H-1B visa applications, aimed at protecting American jobs.
Despite the negative start, the index showed early signs of recovery and climbed to an intraday high of 25331 within the first hour of trade. However, the rebound was short-lived as selling pressure resumed, dragging the index lower through the session. Eventually, Nifty settled at 25200, registering a loss of 0.49% for the day.
Among individual stocks, Adani Enterprises and Eternal stood out as the top gainers within the Nifty basket, while Tech Mahindra and TCS led the losers, reflecting the broader weakness in the IT space. Sectorally, Nifty IT was the worst performer, tumbling nearly 3%, followed by losses in Nifty Pharma and Nifty Healthcare. On the other hand, Nifty Media and Nifty Metal managed to post gains, offering some cushion to the overall market.
The broader market underperformed the headline indices, with Nifty Midcap 100 falling by 0.67% and Nifty Smallcap 100 declining by 1.17%. The advance-decline ratio was heavily skewed in favour of the bears, as 334 stocks from the Nifty 500 universe ended in the red, indicating widespread selling pressure across sectors.
Nifty View
The benchmark index Nifty ended in the red for the second straight trading session, reflecting continued profit booking after the sharp rally of over 1000 points. On the daily chart, it formed a bearish candle with shadows on both ends, indicating indecisiveness among market participants.
In the final hour of trade, the index found support near its 10-day EMA, which helped trigger a minor recovery from the day’s lows. However, technical indicators suggest waning bullish momentum, as the daily RSI slipped below the 60 mark and continues to trend downward.
Going ahead, the zone of 25080-25050 will act as immediate support for the index as the 38.2% Fibonacci retracement level of its recent upward move (24404-25448) is placed in that region. While, on the upside, the zone of 25330-25350 will act as a crucial hurdle for the index. Any sustainable move above the level of 25350 will lead to resume its northward journey. In that case, the index is likely to test the level of 25500 in the short term.
Bank Nifty View
The banking benchmark index Bank Nifty, closed in negative territory, extending its weakness and forming a bearish candle on the daily chart. Notably, the candle features a long upper shadow, which signals selling pressure at higher levels and a lack of follow-through on intraday gains.
Technically, this reflects hesitation among buyers and a possible shift in short-term sentiment. The daily RSI is currently quoting at 54 and continues to trend downward, indicating a gradual loss of bullish momentum and suggesting that the index may remain under pressure unless fresh buying emerges.
Talking about crucial levels, the zone of 54800-54700 will act as crucial support for the index. While, on the upside, the zone of 55600-55700 will act as an immediate hurdle.

Nagaraj Shetti, Senior Technical Research Analyst at HDFC Securities
Nifty continued to slide down for the second consecutive sessions on Monday and closed the day lower by 124 points amidst volatility. After opening with a downside gap of 89 points, the market showed quick recovery from the lows and filled the opening down gap in the early part of the session. Nifty was unable to sustain the recovery and declined again in the mid to later part of the session and closed near the lows.
A reasonable negative candle was formed on the daily chart with gap down opening and with long upper shadow. Technically, this market action indicates continuation of short-term downward correction in the market with sell on rise.
Medium to long-term trend of Nifty remains positive and the current weakness could be a buy-on-dips opportunity for the short term. Nifty is expected to find support around 25000 levels and is likely to bounce back from the lows. Immediate resistance is placed at 25450.

Rupak De, Senior Technical Analyst at LKP Securities
The Nifty has been witnessing a pullback over the last two days, which is absolutely normal considering the 1,000-point rally that preceded it. In fact, such minor corrections are healthy for a sustained uptrend.
In the short term, support is placed at 25,050, and the overall structure remains intact as long as the index holds above this level. A decisive break below 25,050 could extend the correction towards 24,800.
On the upside, resistance is seen at 25,250. A move above this level could signal a resumption of the uptrend.

Amit Agarwal, SVP-Fundamental Research, Kotak Securities
The government has reduced GST rates on almost all food items and select essential personal care categories to 5% from 12%/18%. This measure could partially revive consumption and improve growth construct (volume/mix-led growth). BRIT, NEST and CLGT are expected to be the key beneficiaries, followed by Dabur and HUVR.
We see limited benefit for MRCO, GCPL, Tata Consumer and VBL. For ITC, the existing GST rate (28%) + compensation cess on Cigarettes would continue for some more time, following which the GST rate would increase to 40%, the compensation cess would be discontinued and there could be some other changes to keep aggregate taxation largely intact.
We expect volume/mix-led revenue growth starting in 3Q. Select food categories (such as namkeen and biscuits) may also see some unorganized-to-organized shift as the lower GST rate could reduce the price gap. Lastly, this GST-rate cut would offer some headroom for price increases in the medium term (H2FY27/FY28).
