September 05, 2025· 16:10 IST

Sudeep Shah, Head - Technical Research and Derivatives at SBI Securities

Markets witnessed a highly volatile trading session on Friday. Following heavy selling pressure in the early hours, the indices staged a gradual recovery during the second half, led by strength in heavyweight Reliance Industries. Post the GST Council meeting, investor sentiment remained mixed, with profit-booking emerging in select sectors, further contributing to the day’s volatility. The Nifty eventually ended almost unchanged, settling at 24,741, down 0.03%.

Auto stocks remained in focus, with Eicher Motors (+2.42%) and M&M (+2.29%) emerging as the top gainers within the Nifty index. On the flip side, ITC (-2.06%) and HCL Tech (-1.68%) were the major laggards. On a weekly basis, Nifty Metal (+5.75%) and Nifty Auto (+5.45%) were the standout performers among the sectoral indices.

From a technical perspective, the Nifty continues to remain range-bound, as reflected in momentum indicators, with the daily RSI currently at 49.39. Market breadth was neutral, with 258 stocks advancing against 241 declines within the Nifty 500 universe.

Nifty Levels: The short term support for Nifty is seen at 24,620 followed by 24,500 while resistance on the upside is see at 24,840 followed by 24,980.

For Bank Nifty, the zone of 54500-54600 will act as an immediate hurdle for the index. While, on the downside, the 200-day EMA zone of 53,600-53,500 will act as crucial support for the index. A sustainable move on either side will lead to a trending move in the index.

Ajit Mishra – SVP, Research, Religare Broking

Markets traded in a narrow range and ended nearly flat on Friday. After a positive start, the Nifty slipped in the first half, weighed down by weakness in IT majors; however, resilience in select heavyweights supported a recovery as the session progressed. Eventually, it closed almost unchanged at 24,741.

Sector-wise, auto stocks outperformed, rising over 1% on optimism following reduced GST rates for vehicles. These gains were offset by weakness in consumer and IT counters, with IT reversing early strength to close lower by 1.3% amid global growth concerns. Meanwhile, mid- and small-cap indices posted modest gains of around 0.3% each.

Despite optimism around policy reforms and supportive domestic factors, markets appear to be entering a consolidation phase, cautious given lingering tariff concerns and persistent foreign institutional outflows. That said, trading opportunities remain across sectors. Participants are advised to align their positions accordingly, with a focus on risk management.

September 05, 2025· 15:52 IST

Nilesh Jain, Head – Technical and Derivatives Research Analyst (Equity Research), Centrum Broking

Markets witnessed a smart recovery, with the Nifty managing to close above its 21-DMA, currently placed around 24,700. However, the recent momentum faced resistance near the 50-DMA at 24980, which also aligns with the upper boundary of a symmetrical triangle pattern on the index.

For a fresh leg of the uptrend, a decisive breakout above 25,000 is essential. A successful move above this level could open the gates for a rally towards 25,300, and eventually 25,500.

On the downside, immediate support lies at the recent swing low of 24,520. Overall, Nifty is expected to consolidate within the broader range of 24,400–25,000 in the coming week.

September 05, 2025· 15:49 IST

Vinod Nair, Head of Research, Geojit Investments

Indian equities ended flat today, but sentiment stayed mildly positive as key indices rebounded from intraday lows on buying at support levels. The auto sector continued to extend gains on expectations of a demand revival.

Broader markets outperformed, with strong mid- and small-cap participation as domestic investors rotated into value and growth opportunities beyond large caps.

Global cues also lent support, with U.S. and Asian markets trading higher ahead of the U.S. jobs report, a key trigger for Fed rate cut expectations. In the near term, markets are likely to remain range-bound, with a buy-on-dips, sell-on-rallies strategy guiding investor behaviour.

Rupee traded weak near 88.25, down by 0.13rs, as renewed tariff concerns with US President Trump hinting at targeting Indian IT with additional duties weighed on sentiment.

Persistent FII selling pressure for the past several months has continued to add to the rupee’s devaluation trend. With external headwinds dominating, rupee is expected to remain volatile in the range of 87.90 – 88.50.
