Sudeep Shah, Head - Technical and Derivatives Research at SBI Securities
On the weekly expiry session, the benchmark Nifty index closed at 25725, posting a modest gain of 0.17%. The index showcased high intraday swings and ultimately formed a bullish candle with upper and lower shadows on the daily chart—an indication of heightened volatility throughout the trading day. Despite these fluctuations, Nifty continues to hold firm above its key moving averages, reflecting underlying resilience in the market trend. However, momentum indicators and oscillators are signalling a phase of sideways movement.
Within the index constituents, Adani Enterprises and ITC emerged as the top gainers, providing notable support to the benchmark. On the other hand, Hindalco Industries and Eternal featured among the top laggards and weighed on sentiment.
From a sectoral standpoint, performance remained mixed. Nifty PSU Bank and Nifty IT indices led the rally, outperforming the broader market. In contrast, Nifty Metal and Nifty Realty slipped into negative territory, finishing as the major underperformers of the day.
The broader market too held its ground. Both Nifty Midcap 100 and Nifty Smallcap 100 closed in the green, extending their upward momentum. The Midcap index continues to trade comfortably above all its crucial moving averages, highlighting sustained buying interest. Meanwhile, the Smallcap index is positioned above its 20 day EMA, signalling near term strength within the broader market space.
Market breadth remained favourable, with the advance–decline ratio skewed toward gainers. Out of the Nifty 500 universe, 337 stocks ended the session on a positive note, underscoring widespread participation across sectors and market segments.
Nifty View
Going ahead, for Nifty, the 25800–25850 zone remains the immediate hurdle. A sustained move above 25850 can extend the pullback toward 26000. On the downside, 25630–25600 will act as strong near-term support.
Bank Nifty View
Bank Nifty extended its strong outperformance in Tuesday’s session, closing near the 61200 mark with a gain of 0.37%. The index formed a bullish candle with a minor lower shadow on the daily chart, signalling continued buying interest at lower levels. With Bank Nifty hovering close to its all-time high, the overall structure remains decisively positive. All major moving averages are aligned upward, and momentum indicators continue to reflect a firm bullish undertone, reinforcing confidence in the ongoing trend.
From a technical perspective, the support base has now shifted higher. The immediate support zone lies in the 60800–60700 range, which is expected to act as a strong cushion during any intraday dips. As long as the index holds above 60700, the broader setup remains favourable for further upside. It is likely to test 61600, followed by 62100 level in the short term.

Shrikant Chouhan, Head Equity Research, Kotak Securities
Today, the benchmark indices continued their positive momentum. The Nifty ended 43 points higher, while the Sensex was up by 174 points. Among sectors, PSU Banks was the top performer, rallying over 2.11 percent, whereas the Metal index lost the most, shedding over 1 percent.
Technically, after a gap-down open, the market took support near 25,600/83000 and bounced back sharply. On intraday charts, it is holding an uptrend continuation formation and also formed a bullish candle on daily charts, which is largely positive.
We are of the view that 25,600/83000 and 25,500/82700 remain the crucial support zones for traders. As long as the market is trading above these levels, the bullish momentum is likely to continue.
On the higher side, 25,800/83700 would act as an immediate resistance zone for the bulls. A successful breakout above 25,800/83800 could push the market towards 25,950-26,000/84200-84500. On the flip side, below 25,500/82700, the uptrend would become vulnerable.

Domestic markets traded in a range-bound manner, attempting to recover recent losses triggered by lingering concerns over AI-led disruptions. The IT sector, following a sharp correction, witnessed selective bottom-fishing, aided by announcements of strategic collaborations with global AI partners. Meanwhile, PSU banks outperformed the broader indices, supported by positive Q3 results and favourable regulatory tailwinds.
In the near term, sentiment is likely to remain cautious as investors monitor global developments around AI-driven shifts. However, a resilient GDP outlook, and a stabilising rupee may provide support to renewed FII inflows.

The index has continued its recovery but faced resistance near the 50DMA on the higher side. As a result, it may remain rangebound or witness a minor pullback, given the rejection at this critical moving average. The RSI has also entered a bearish crossover, indicating weakening momentum.
On the upside, resistance is placed at 25,800, above which the index could witness further strength. However, failure to move past 25,800 may trigger long unwinding, potentially dragging the index back toward the 25,500 level.

Ross Maxwell, Global Strategy Operations Lead, VT Markets
Gold’s recent pullback is more short-term profit taking and repositioning, rather than a structural shift in bullish momentum. The medium-term outlook still supports the potential for gold to regain bullish momentum and move back towards its record highs if key macro drivers continue to be favourable.
Markets are increasingly pricing future monetary easing across major economies, and any clear indication towards rate cuts would lower real yields and weaken the opportunity cost of holding non-yielding assets like gold. Ongoing geopolitical tensions, elevated sovereign debt levels, and continued central-bank diversification into bullion provides ongoing demand.
There are some short-term hurdles that investors should be aware of. A prolonged period of higher-for-longer interest rates, a sustained dollar rally, or resilient economic data that delays easing could limit prices and keep gold range-bound.
For investors already holding gold, the current market favours a measured, rather than aggressive, approach. Gold continues to serve as an effective portfolio hedge against macro uncertainty and currency debasement, so maintaining a strategic allocation makes sense. Accumulation on dips, particularly when real yields spike or sentiment turns overly bearish, can improve positioning. Investors should avoid chasing rallies as this would expose them to unnecessary volatility.
Position sizing, staggered buying, and a medium-term view remain key, as gold’s primary drivers are now cyclical and policy-dependent rather than purely momentum-based.

This development is encouraging, as it suggests that next generation AI applications are unlikely to disrupt Indian IT companies’ business models to the extent initially feared. Instead, these solutions are expected to be incorporated into both existing and new projects, which should help ease concerns around long term business sustainability. That said, some uncertainties persist—particularly regarding how deal sizes and pricing may evolve, and the net impact on margins once employee cost efficiencies and productivity gains are balanced out.
While the sector’s outlook for FY27-28 appears muted compared with the strong performance of the past 2–3 years, this is getting reflected in current subdued valuations. At the same time, the environment is offering opportunities for long term investors to re enter the space, as more clarity is likely to emerge over the short to medium term.

Gaurav Garg, Research Analyst at Lemonn Markets Desk
Gold and silver traded on a softer note on 17 February, with prices consolidating after recent volatility as investors booked profits and reacted to a firmer US dollar and shifting interest-rate expectations from the US Federal Reserve. Safe-haven demand amid weakness in global equities and continued central-bank buying helped limit the downside.
In 2026, both metals are undergoing a volatile corrective phase after last year’s strong rally, though the broader multi-year bullish trend remains intact. MCX gold is consolidating around ₹1.55–1.58 lakh per 10g, while silver remains choppy near ₹2.41 lakh per kg, below earlier peaks.
The current weakness is largely seen as consolidation rather than a trend reversal. Investors may consider holding and rebalancing on dips, while fresh allocations should be staggered amid choppy market conditions.
