As the war rages in West Asia, the Centre has asked states and Union territories to closely track LPG availability on a daily basis and take firm action against anyone violating supply rules. Authorities have also been directed to curb rumours and ensure law and order amid speculation that the ongoing conflict in the Middle East could disrupt cylinder supplies.
Meanwhile, induction cooktops have rapidly sold out on several online platforms. The surge in demand followed restrictions on LPG cylinder distribution to commercial users such as hotels and restaurants, which triggered concerns that similar curbs could soon extend to household consumers.
To manage the situation, the Ministry of Home Affairs has established a round-the-clock control room staffed by nodal officers from the ministries of information and broadcasting, as well as petroleum and natural gas.

India's annual LPG consumption stands at around 31.3 million tonnes. Nearly 87 per cent of this demand comes from the domestic segment, mainly household kitchens, while the remaining share is used by commercial users such as hotels and restaurants. About 62 per cent of the country's total LPG requirement is met through imports.
However, the ongoing conflict involving the United States and Israel targeting Iran, followed by Tehran's retaliation, has resulted in the closure of the Strait of Hormuz. This vital shipping corridor handles nearly 85-90 per cent of India's LPG imports from West Asian suppliers, including Saudi Arabia and Qatar.
