The index remained volatile during the day as choppiness in crude oil prices rocked Indian equities. On the hourly chart, the rising Nifty faced resistance at the 21EMA and slipped lower. On the daily chart, a Bullish Harami Cross has formed, which is a bullish reversal pattern.
In the short term, the trend may improve with the potential to rise towards 23400–23600. On the lower end, 22950–23000 remains a key support zone, below which bearishness may re-emerge.

Today’s performance of the BSE Sensex indicates a gradual recovery, supported by easing crude prices and stable global cues. The upward movement was driven by selective buying, suggesting improving sentiment but not yet a full-fledged risk-on environment .On the sectoral front, metals and IT led the gains. Metal stocks benefited from softer cost pressures, while IT saw value buying after recent declines. PSU banks also performed well, reflecting optimism around domestic fundamentals and balance sheet strength. Conversely, private financials remained under pressure, weighed down by recent corrections and stock-specific concerns. Auto and FMCG stocks were relatively subdued, as investors stayed cautious amid demand uncertainties and premium valuations.
Overall, while the rebound is encouraging, we believe the market may continue to trade within a range in the near term. Sustained momentum will depend on global stability and commodity price trends, with investors likely to remain selective in their approach.

Today, the Indian equities bounced back, ending with strong gains as easing crude prices, and selective buying in domestic themes outweighed concerns around a record weak rupee and global trade worries. Nifty 50 closed above 112 points while Sensex closed above 0.44%.
This positive close came despite the rupee hovering near record lows around the USD 93 mark, a reminder that macro undercurrents remain fragile amid high oil, a strong dollar and persistent FII outflows. Domestic institutional and retail flows, along with confidence in India’s medium term growth story, again acted as a counterweight to global risk aversion and currency weakness.
TCS stayed in focus after its strategic MoU with ABB to collaborate on IT infrastructure transformation, industrial AI applications, factory modernisation and data-centre development. VA Tech Wabag remained on investors’ radar after winning a “mega” order of over Rs 1,000 crore from Chennai’s water board to refurbish, finance, operate and maintain a 45 MLD tertiary treatment reverse osmosis plant under a long‑tenure RFOMT model.
Natco Pharma is preparing to launch its generic semaglutide injections in India in March 2026 after receiving CDSCO approval to manufacture and market the product.
On the policy front, the UK has announced that from 1 July 2026 overall steel import quotas will be cut by about 60%, with imports above those quotas attracting a steep 50% tariff.
In the very near term, market direction is likely to be shaped by three factors crude prices, rupee trajectory and global risk sentiment. Any further cooling in oil or evidence of stabilisation in the rupee could sustain the current positive bias, while renewed spikes in either could quickly revive risk aversion.

Ajit Mishra – SVP, Research, Religare Broking
Markets witnessed a volatile session on Friday and ended marginally higher, taking a breather after the previous session’s steep decline. The Nifty opened on a firm note following positive global signals and maintained gains in the early hours. However, selling pressure resumed as the session progressed, leading the index to surrender most of its gains by the close. Despite this, it managed to end with modest gains of nearly half a percent, settling at the 23,114 level.
Sectoral participation remained mixed, reflecting selective buying interest. Pharma, IT and metal stocks were among the key gainers, while realty, financials and banking traded subdued. Broader indices traded mixed, with midcap gaining over half a percent and smallcap ending flat.
Sentiment improved as crude oil prices cooled off from recent highs following statements from the US and Israel indicating that energy infrastructure in Iran would not be targeted for now. The sharp decline in the previous session also triggered some bargain hunting across sectors. However, lingering geopolitical tensions, continued weakness in the rupee and persistent FII outflows remain key overhangs for the market.
We maintain our cautious stance given the prevailing negative sentiment and recommend preferring hedged positions over naked trades until greater stability emerges. On the index front, the 23,400–23,600 zone is likely to act as a resistance area in case of a rebound, while 22,800 remains a critical support level. A break below this level could lead to further downside towards the 22,500 mark, despite the oversold conditions. As most sectors continue to face pressure, participants should maintain a stock-specific approach, focusing on relatively stronger stocks for long opportunities and weaker counters for short positions.

Nagaraj Shetti, Senior Technical Research Analyst at HDFC Securities
After a massive decline and faster downside retracement on Thursday, Nifty witnessed bounce back amidst volatility on Friday and closed the day higher by 112 points. After opening on a positive note, Nifty moved up further in the early part of the session. It was not able to sustain above the hurdle of 23350 levels and slipped in to weakness from the highs in the mid to later part of the session.
A small thin candle was formed on the daily chart with long upper shadow. Technically, this signals a formation of doji type candle pattern. This market action indicates lack of strength in the upside bounce. Bearish pattern like lower tops and bottoms is intact on the daily chart and the Nifty is on the way down to form a new lower bottom of the pattern.
The near term trend of Nifty remains weak and present bounce back could be a sell on rise opportunity. A weakness below 22900 could open next downside target of 22500 in the near term. However, immediate resistance is placed at 23380.

The Indian rupee resumed its downward spiral to fresh record lows following Thursday’s holiday, battered by a 'double whammy' of persistent foreign fund outflows and surging crude oil prices. Sudeep Shah, Head - Technical and Derivatives Research at SBI Securities
Nifty opened with a gap-up but largely traded within a narrow range as the session progressed. The 23300–23350 zone acted as a strong intraday resistance, while 23120–23100 provided firm support, keeping price action confined within this band throughout the day. On the daily chart, the index formed a small-bodied candle with a noticeable upper shadow, indicating an inability to sustain higher levels. A similar pattern was observed in the previous session as well, where intraday pullbacks were consistently met with selling pressure at higher levels.
On the sectoral front, Nifty IT ended the day as a top gainer. However, the Index still continues to trade well below key moving averages. Nifty PSU Bank was the second-best sectoral gainer, closing with a gain of 2.07%. On the other hand, Nifty Realty ended the day as top sectoral loser, extending its underperformance, followed by Nifty Financial Services, which recently saw FII outflows to the tune of ₹32,704 crore in the first half of March 2026. With regards to stocks, Tech Mahindra & JSW Steel ended up as top two gainers while Hindalco & HDFC Bank emerged as the top stock losers.
Broader markets also opened on a firm footing but traded sideways for most of the session. The 54905–54765 zone acted as a strong intraday support for the index. Small cap underperformed relative to midcaps, with the index failing to hold on to its early gains. On the daily chart, it formed a small-bodied bearish candle with a slight upper shadow, highlighting the inability to sustain at higher levels.
The market breadth remained firm as the advance-decline ratio was skewed in the favour of bulls at day’s close. A total of 291 stocks out of the Nifty 500 universe ended in the green.
Nifty View
Going ahead, the immediate support for Nifty is placed in the 22850-22800 zone. Any sustainable move below this zone could result in Nifty extending its weakness towards 22600, followed by 22400 in the short term. On the upside, the zone of 23300–23350 zone is likely to act as a strong resistance.
Bank Nifty View
Bank Nifty, too, started the session on a positive note but faced stiff resistance at elevated levels. This resulted in the formation of a thin-bodied candle with a prominent upper shadow, reflecting selling pressure on every rise. The price action closely mirrored the previous session, where intraday recovery attempts were swiftly sold into by the bears.
For Bank Nifty, the immediate support is placed in the 53100–53000 zone. Any sustainable move below this zone could result in Bank Nifty extending its weakness towards 52700, followed by 52400 in the short term. On the upside, the zone of 53900–54000 zone is likely to act as a strong resistance.

Positive comments aimed at de-escalating the conflict and avoiding attacks on oil and gas infrastructure led to a moderate rebound during the day. However, investor sentiment remains fragile, with gains tapering off as participants remain reluctant to hold positions over the weekend amid war-related uncertainties. Defensive buying continued in healthcare, supported by INR depreciation and a stable outlook.
The IT sector also found support from deep long-term value and the absence of any visible negative impact from AI. While the consensus remains cautiously optimistic, expectations are that conflict-related risks may ease over the next couple of weeks, allowing market volatility to subside. Buying opportunities are emerging after the massive sell-off this month, though the loss of Qatar’s gas capacity is expected to have an impact on the Indian LNG sector.

Gaurav Garg, Research Analyst at Lemonn Markets Desk
In today's commodity market update, gold prices have shown a slight recovery, trading at $4,697.11 per ounce (approximately ₹1,41,019 per 10 grams), up by 0.90%, amidst a backdrop of recent sell-offs and renewed investor interest. Conversely, silver has faced downward pressure, declining by 0.69% to $72.59 per ounce (around ₹2,17,948 per kg), as a stronger U.S. dollar continues to weigh on precious metals.
The recent volatility is attributed to a hawkish stance from the U.S. Federal Reserve, which has kept interest rates steady but hinted at potential increases, creating a cautious sentiment in the market. Additionally, crude oil prices have retreated to $94.11 per barrel (approximately ₹8,788), down 2.11%, amid concerns over fluctuating demand and geopolitical tensions.
