Nagaraj Shetti, Senior Technical Research Analyst at HDFC Securities
After showing sharp weakness on Friday, Nifty bounced back smartly on Monday and closed the day with decent gains of 97 points. After opening with a positive note, the market continued to surge higher gradually for better part of the session. There was a consolidation movement towards the end and Nifty closed the day off the highs.
A small positive candle was formed on the daily chart with minor upper and lower shadow (Inside day type candle pattern). This market action indicates an absence of follow-through selling in the market after a sharp weakness of Friday. This is positive indication.
The opening upside gap of 18th Aug remains unfilled after six sessions of its formation. This bullish breakaway gap indicates more upside for the Nifty in the near term. Hence, the next upside target to be watched around 25200-25300 in the near term. Immediate support is placed at 24800.

Ajit Mishra – SVP, Research, Religare Broking
Markets started the week on a positive note, gaining nearly half a percent on the back of favorable global cues. After an initial uptick, the Nifty slipped in early trade but recovered as strong buying in IT majors and resilience in heavyweights across other sectors lifted the index higher. As a result, the Nifty 50 ended near 24,967.75, up around 0.4%. In contrast, the broader markets remained subdued, closing almost flat, reflecting a cautious undertone.
Investor sentiment was buoyed by easing global rate concerns, with comments from the U.S. Federal Reserve hinting at a possible rate cut next month, boosting risk appetite across emerging markets. On the domestic front, steady institutional inflows and softening crude oil prices provided additional support.
From a technical perspective, the Nifty faces immediate resistance at the 25,150 level; a breakout above this could open the door for further gains. Traders should closely track IT, metals, and realty stocks, while financials are likely to set the tone for the next session.

Dilip Parmar, Research Analyst, HDFC Securities
The Indian Rupee has extended its depreciation for a fourth consecutive day, driven by a strengthening U.S. Dollar. The greenback's recovery follows recent dovish commentary from Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell, which has fuelled expectations of a potential rate cut as early as next month.
The consistent demand for the U.S. Dollar, coupled with high crude oil prices, continues to weigh on the local currency.
In the near term, the spot USDINR pair faces resistance at 87.80 and has support at 87.20. The overall market sentiment for the pair remains positive, indicating a continued upward bias.

Sudeep Shah, Head - Technical Research and Derivatives at SBI Securities
On Monday, the benchmark index Nifty experienced high volatility within a narrow range of 127 points. Despite attempting to sustain above the psychological 25000 mark, it failed to hold and witnessed profit booking in the final hour of the session. This led to the formation of a high-wave candle.
Additionally, Nifty traded entirely within the previous day's range, resulting in an Inside Bar formation. The combination of high-wave and Inside Bar patterns reflects a state of indecision among market participants, suggesting a potential pause or reversal in the prevailing trend.
Among Nifty constituents, Infosys, TCS, and HCL Tech emerged as the top gainers, while Adani Enterprises and Apollo Hospitals were the leading laggards. On the sectoral front, Nifty IT and Nifty Realty outperformed, whereas Nifty Media and Nifty PSU Bank were the major underperformers.
The broader indices, Nifty Midcap and Nifty Smallcap 100, ended on a flat note, reflecting a lack of clear direction. The advance/decline ratio also remained neutral, with 244 stocks from the Nifty 500 universe closing in the green.
Nifty View
The current chart structure of the Nifty index reflects a phase of indecisiveness among market participants. This sentiment is echoed by both price action and technical indicators.
The 20-day and 50-day EMAs have been trading flat over the last two sessions, indicating a lack of directional momentum. Meanwhile, the daily RSI continues to move sideways, further reinforcing the view of consolidation and uncertainty in the near term.
Going ahead, the zone of 25070-25100 will act as an important hurdle for the index. While on the downside, the zone of 24860-24830 will act as a crucial support for the index. A decisive move on either side will lead to a trending move in the index.
Bank Nifty View
The Bank Nifty has been underperforming the frontline indices over the past couple of sessions. On Monday, it closed flat and formed a Doji candlestick pattern on the daily chart, signalling indecision among market participants.
Going ahead, the support zone of 54900–54800 will be crucial. A sustained move below 54800 could trigger further downside towards 54400. On the upside, the resistance zone of 55300–55400 will act as a key hurdle for any recovery attempt.

The Indian equities remained strong, tracking global cues, as the dovish speech by Fed Chair Jerome Powell boosted risk-on sentiment. However, the Nifty fell short of the 25,000 mark, closing slightly below it. The sentiment remains positive as long as the index holds above 24,800.
In the near term, particularly on Tuesday, the Indian market may trade sideways as traders await the final verdict on Trump’s additional 25% tariff decision on 27th August.
The Nifty is expected to remain within the range of 24,800–25,150 before any decisive directional move.

Ross Maxwell, Global Strategy Lead at VT Markets
The latest US stock market highs, which has seen them reach the highest valuations in history, has been largely fuelled by huge gains in mega-cap tech stocks, investor optimism surrounding artificial intelligence, and the expectation of interest rate cuts by the Federal Reserve later this year. Record share buybacks and strong corporate earnings in sectors like cloud computing, semiconductors, and software have also helped push valuations higher.
In the short term, momentum may keep markets elevated, especially if economic data remains resilient and earnings continue to surprise to the upside. However, the risk of correction is growing, as rising real yields, sticky inflation, and geopolitical uncertainty could pressure high valuations.
For investors, this environment demands caution. While staying invested in quality growth names has merit, there’s growing value in diversifying across sectors and geographincally. Rotating some exposure into value stocks, holding cash reserves, and adopting hedging strategies can help manage downside risk.

A wave of optimism swept through the domestic market, driven by expectations of a Fed rate cut in September and a subsequent decline in the US 10-year yield. The IT index outperformed, buoyed by favourable global sentiment.
The domestic levers stay positive with the proposed GST rationalisation to push consumption demand, and a good monsoon season could serve as a catalyst to navigate any uncertainty in the global trade environment.
