Shrikant Chouhan, Head Equity Research, Kotak Securities
Today, the benchmark indices witnessed a volatile trading session from the lower levels, the Nifty ends 86 points lower while the Sensex was down by 296 points. Among Sectors, FMCG Index outperformed, rallied 1.4 percent whereas Oil and Gas, Capital market and Pharma indices shed over 1 percent.
Technically, after a gap down open, one more time market took the support near 24600/80600 and bounced back sharply. From the day lowest point market rallied over 300 points. However, it failed to close above 24900/81600 levels. Nevertheless, on intraday charts it has formed higher bottom formation which is largely positive.
For the day traders now, 24650/80800 and 24600/80600 would act as a key support zones. As long as market is trading above the same, the pullback formation is likely to continue.
On the higher side market could move up to 25000/81900 and 25050/82200. On the other side, below 24600/80600 the sentiment could change. Below the same, traders may prefer to exit out from the trading long positions.

Rupak De, Senior Technical Analyst at LKP Securities
The index recovered smartly after a gap-down opening, rising above 24,900. However, the Nifty failed to sustain at higher levels. The index continues to trade below the 50 EMA, confirming a bearish trend. The RSI is in a bearish crossover.
Despite several negative setups, a hidden positive divergence has been observed over the past 2–3 days, indicating a potential bullish reversal.
This setup may play out well if the Nifty decisively moves above 25,000. On the lower side, support is placed at 24,600. A range-bound movement is expected until the Nifty breaks out of the 24,600–25,000 range.

Ajit Mishra – SVP, Research, Religare Broking
Markets witnessed volatile swings on the monthly expiry day and ended marginally lower amid mixed cues. The surprise tariff announcement by the US President on India initially triggered a knee-jerk reaction; however, a gradual recovery in heavyweight stocks across sectors helped the index briefly turn positive. Selling pressure resurfaced in the final hours, once again putting bulls on the back foot. As a result, the Nifty closed at 24,768.35, down 0.35%.
All major sectors, except FMCG, came under pressure, with pharma, metal, and energy emerging as the top losers. The broader indices also resumed their corrective phase, each losing over a percent.
As the new series begins, the market is likely to consolidate, but global developments and corporate earnings will continue to drive volatility. We maintain our cautious stance and recommend a stock-specific approach, given the mixed trends across sectors. Traders should also avoid averaging down on loss-making positions.

Vinod Nair, Head of Research, Geojit Investments
Following a turbulent start driven by fresh tariff threats, the Indian market started on a pessimistic note. However, domestic market attempted a strong recovery but by the end of the day it closed with marginal losses, on a monthly expiry day.
Investors gravitated toward domestically oriented, non-discretionary players, especially FMCG, which offered attractive valuations, demand outlook and relative insulation from tariff risks.
In contrast, oil & gas stocks were the worst hit due to US warnings over Indian energy imports. Overall, the market reflected a cautious yet selective approach. Market continues to hold high hopes for a more favorable tariff outcome in the near-term.

Ajay Garg, CEO, SMC Global Securities
The recent imposition of 25% tariffs by the US on Indian exports may appear to be a short-term challenge, but it is unlikely to derail India’s long-term growth trajectory. While the US remains India’s largest export destination, the exports to the country stood at $86.51 billion, which is less than one-fifth of India’s total exports in FY25.
India has remained steadfast in protecting its MSMEs and rural economy, especially in agriculture and dairy, even as trade negotiations continue. This strategic focus underscores India’s commitment to inclusive growth. At the same time, the opportunity to diversify export markets seems to be another path. ASEAN remains a critical partner, with bilateral trade hitting $123 billion in FY25. On a positive note, the recently signed India-UK free trade agreement is expected to generate over ₹500 billion annually and contribute 0.06% to India’s GDP in the long term, signaling new avenues for growth.
A 25% US tariff may put some pressure on India’s export-driven sectors like engineering goods, textiles, and jewellery. This move underscores the growing trend of protectionism and may compel India to diversify export markets, push for FTA negotiations, and accelerate domestic value addition to maintain global competitiveness.
While Trump’s trade policies unsettle global supply chains, India’s resilience and economic agility are emerging as key differentiators. Notably, regional competitors like Bangladesh and Sri Lanka are still facing steeper tariffs, weakening their edge. Amid global uncertainty, India remains one of the fastest-growing major economies, poised to lead the next phase of emerging market growth.

The Trump administration’s move to impose a 25% tariff plus penalties starting August 1, 2025, in response to India’s defense and energy ties with Russia, signals a sharp escalation in trade tensions. India exported about $87 billion worth of goods to the U.S. in 2024, nearly 20 percent of its total merchandise exports.
Bilateral trade reached $118.4 billion that year, with exports rising nearly 90% over the past decade to $79.4 billion, driven largely by machinery and electronics, which now make up about 25% of the basket. Labor-intensive sectors like gems and jewellery, textiles, chemicals, and engineering goods are likely to face the brunt of the impact.
That said, this may not be the final outcome. Trade talks expected in August, and this often involve complexities, and some back-and-forth is natural. What’s important is that the dialogue remains open, and both countries continue to seek mutually beneficial outcomes
