Vinod Nair, Head of Research, Geojit Investments
The Indian equity market witnessed profit booking after a sustained multi-session rally, driven by anticipation of the FED entering an easing cycle. Positive developments in U.S.-India trade negotiations and improved global liquidity conditions continued to offer a cushion to investor sentiment.
Against the backdrop of strengthening domestic fundamentals and a weakening U.S. dollar, the environment appears conducive for a potential return of FIIs, following a prolonged phase of net outflows. Sectoral rotation was evident, with PSU banks, metals, and pharma stocks leading the gains, while IT, FMCG, and private banking stocks lagged.

Nifty slipped on Friday after forming a hanging man pattern in the previous session. While the short-term trend continues to favor the bulls, a mild pullback from the current level looks possible.
On the lower side, support is placed at 25,150, below which the trend may weaken.
However, if the index manages to stay above 25,150, it could move towards 25,500. A decisive move above 25,500 may then open the road to 26,000.

Siddhartha Khemka - Head of Research, Wealth Management, Motilal Oswal Financial Services
Indian equities edged lower after three consecutive sessions of gains as selling pressure emerged at higher levels. Nifty50 closed with a loss of 97 points at 25,327 (-0.4%). Nifty Midcap100 and Smallcap100 indices ended marginally higher, outperforming the benchmarks.
Sectoral indices showed mixed movement, with PSU banks leading with 1.3% gains alongside pharma index (up 0.5%); while losses were seen in IT, private banks, financial services, auto and FMCG, reflecting selective buying in the market. IT index dropped by 0.5%, snapping three-day gaining streak on profit booking after Fed rate cut-led rise. Bank Nifty slipped 0.5% after a 12-session rally, as investors booked profits in select heavyweights. On the institutional front, FII were net buyers on Thursday, adding equities worth Rs 367 crores which lent support to the market sentiment.
Overall, we expect the market to remain firm with a positive bias, aided by a potential consumption boost as the GST rate cuts become effective from September 22nd along with Navratri festivities beginning from the same day which should further push demand. Outlook for export-oriented sectors is also likely to improve, supported by the US Fed’s recent rate cut and encouraging progress in the India–US trade talks.

Vaibhav Vidwani, Research Analyst at Bonanza
The Indian stock market closed on a negative note today, with both Sensex and Nifty ending lower after a three day winning streak. The Sensex dipped by around 387.73 points to settle near 82,626, while the Nifty 50 slipped by approximately 96.55 points to finish at 25,327. Notably, frontline shares and most broader indices also saw marginal weakness.
The main trigger for the negative close was broad-based profit booking after indices reached fresh highs in the wake of positive global cues and central bank action earlier in the week. There was a marked pullback in frontline IT, private banking, and FMCG stocks, which dragged down the indices. Additionally, the US dollar's comeback, despite the recent Fed rate cut, created an overhang for capital flows to emerging markets like India. Persistent FPI outflows in 2025, a weaker rupee near 88 per USD, and unresolved US-India tariff issues further dampened market sentiment.
Adani Group stocks rallied sharply, surging up to 10% intraday, following a decisive clean chit from SEBI in the Hindenburg investigation, clearing the group of all alleged manipulation and irregularities. This regulatory relief fueled fresh investor enthusiasm and heavy buying across Adani stocks. Meanwhile, PSU Banks outperformed the market, with the Nifty PSU Bank index rising over 1.28%, reflecting continued optimism on sustained credit growth, stable asset quality, and a likely policy tailwind that boosted investor confidence in the sector.

Shrikant Chouhan, Head Equity Research, Kotak Securities
Indian equity markets delivered positive weekly returns amid broader strength in the global equities. Rally in the global markets was supported by the 25 bps rate cut announced by the US Fed. In India, the larger indices like Nifty 50 and Sensex 30 moved higher this week by around 1%. The midcap and smallcap index outperformed the larger peers with BSE Midcap and BSE Smallcap index posting weekly gains of 1.5-2%.
In view of positive momentum, almost all the key sectoral indices posted positive returns. BSE Realty index led with gains of 4% whereas the FMGC index was an underperformer with flattish returns.
India’s CPI inflation was 2.1% in August, as food prices contracted by 0.7%. The GST rate cuts is expected to keep the inflation trajectory under control in the next few quarters.
GST rate cut comes into effect from next week and that is expected to keep consumption and other stocks benefiting from lower GST rate in focus. Markets would continue to look for clarity on the US tariff situation and its impact on economic growth.
