Nagaraj Shetti, Senior Technical Research Analyst at HDFC Securities

After showing a sustainable up move in the last couple of sessions, Nifty shifted into a smart recovery from the lows amidst range movement on Monday and closed the day off the lows. After opening on a weak note, the market slipped further decline soon after the opening. A sustainable buying has emerged from the support of 25900 levels in the early part and the recovery continued in the mid to later part of the session with range bound action.

A reasonable green candle was formed on the daily chart below the crucial overhead resistance of down sloping trend line at 26000 levels. This market action indicates an attempt of breakout of crucial overhead resistance around 26000-26100 levels. This is positive indication.

The underlying trend of Nifty continues to be positive. The repeated testing of hurdle could eventually result in Nifty breaking decisively above the key resistance of 26000-26100 levels in the short term. A sustainable breakout of the resistance is expected to open the upside target of around 26300-26400 in the near term. Immediate support is placed at 25900.

Ajit Mishra – SVP, Research, Religare Broking

Markets traded in a volatile manner on Monday and eventually ended almost unchanged, extending the ongoing consolidation phase. The session began on a cautious note, tracking continued weakness in the rupee and mixed global cues. However, a rebound in index heavyweights from key sectors helped pare most of the early losses, enabling the Nifty to close flat at 26,027.30. Sectoral performance remained mixed, keeping participants engaged, with FMCG and IT posting modest gains, while auto, pharma and financial services ended lower. The broader indices mirrored the benchmark trend and also settled flat after witnessing intraday volatility.

With most major domestic and global events behind us, rupee weakness and mixed global cues are currently dictating market direction. At the same time, rotational strength in heavyweight stocks across sectors is providing support and helping the index hold its ground amid the ongoing consolidation phase.

Looking ahead, indications point toward continued consolidation within the 25,800–26,200 range. Choppiness is likely to persist due to the weekly expiry and ongoing currency volatility. Sector focus for the next session should remain on banking and IT, given their market-leading weight and sensitivity to flows, while defensive and commodity-linked themes may offer tactical opportunities. Traders are advised to maintain disciplined risk management and avoid averaging into underperforming positions.

Abhinav Tiwari, Research Analyst at Bonanza

Today, the Indian equity markets ended almost unchanged after a volatile day. The Sensex closed about 54 points lower at around 85,213, while the Nifty 50 managed to stay just above the 26,000 level. Markets recovered most of their intraday losses, but gains were limited as selling pressure and selective buying balanced each other.

Benchmark indices opened weak, tracking muted global cues and a cautious signal from GIFT Nifty. Overall market breadth was mixed, with nearly equal numbers of advancing and declining stocks. Midcap and smallcap stocks also moved in a stock specific manner, without a clear trend.

Investors preferred to consolidate after last week’s rebound. Continued selling by FPIs weighed on sentiment, with nearly Rs. 18,000 crore withdrawn from equities in the first half of December. This capped any strong upside. At the same time, steady inflows from domestic mutual funds and pension funds helped limit downside risks.

Sentiment in insurance and financial stocks improved after the Union Cabinet approved a proposal to allow 100% FDI in insurance companies. This reform is expected to attract long term foreign capital, strengthen balance sheets, and support future growth, leading to interest in listed insurance stocks. Aviation stocks, especially Indigo, outperformed on stock specific buying. Consumer focused stocks showed some strength, while autos and select cyclical stocks faced profit taking, keeping the overall market flat.

Sudeep Shah, Head - Technical and Derivatives Research at SBI Securities

Nifty recovered smartly from a gap-down on opening on an Intraday basis but closed 0.08% lower at 26,027. The Index ended near its downward sloping trendline connecting the highs of 26,326 and 26,179 made on 1st and 8th December respectively and has managed to close above the 20-day EMA for the second consecutive session, indicating improving short-term momentum. A sustained breakout is key for further upside.

On the sectoral front, Nifty Media ended the day as the top sectoral gainer, followed by Nifty FMCG. On the other hand, Nifty Auto and Nifty Pharma emerged as the top two sectoral losers. With regards to stocks, Indigo and Trent, emerged as the top stock gainers amongst the Nifty pack while M&M & Eicher Motors emerged as the top two losers.

The Midcap index formed a thin-bodied candle with a long lower shadow, highlighting buying interest at lower levels. It managed to close above the 20-day EMA, indicating that bulls are attempting to regain control. Near-term momentum appears to be stabilising, though follow-through buying will be crucial.

The Smallcap index extended its corrective phase for the third straight session. Despite intermittent buying attempts, the broader trend remains weak as the index continues to trade below its key short and long-term moving averages. This suggests cautious sentiment, with recovery likely to remain gradual and selective.

The market breadth was somewhat balanced with neither the bulls nor the bears gaining significant control at the day’s close. A total of 258 stocks out of the Nifty 500 universe ended in green.

Nifty View

Looking at key levels, the previous swing high zone of 26,050–26,100 is likely to act as an immediate resistance zone for the Index. A sustained move above this recent swing high of 26,100 could lead to Nifty extending its pullback towards 26,200, followed by 26,300. On the downside, the zone of 25,950-25,900 is likely to act as a strong support for the Index.

Bank Nifty View

Bank Nifty shrugged off early weakness and staged a steady recovery to close at 59,462, up 0.12%. The index continues to find strong support near the 20-day EMA, which has been acting as a dynamic support over the past few sessions, suggesting resilience and stability in the banking space.

Looking at key levels, the zone of 59,500–59,600 is likely to act as an immediate resistance zone for the Index. A sustained move above 59,600 could lead to Bank Nifty extending its pullback towards 59,900, followed by 60,200. On the downside, the zone of 59,100-59,000 is likely to act as a strong support for the index.

Gold prices scaled even higher as international spot gold surged towards the $4,350 zone, triggering a strong rally in the domestic market. MCX gold reflected the global strength with a sharp gain of around ₹1,700, touching a fresh lifetime high near ₹1,35,250.

The move was driven by renewed safe-haven demand and expectations around upcoming U.S. economic data. With Non-Farm Payrolls and the Core PCE Price Index scheduled this week, focus has firmly shifted to U.S. macro cues, which are expected to keep volatility elevated. Gold prices are now seen trading in a higher range between ₹1,33,000 and ₹1,36,500.

Persistent foreign fund outflows and a weak rupee have kept markets in a narrow range, with currency volatility likely to continue until clarity emerges on the India–US trade deal. Expectations of an earnings recovery in H2FY26, supported by monetary and fiscal growth drivers, are helping stabilize sentiment.

Going forward, market momentum is expected to be earnings-led rather than valuation-driven. Investors are also awaiting key economic indicators, including U.S. CPI inflation and unemployment data, which will shape global liquidity expectations and the interest rate outlook for 2026.

The Indian rupee plunged to a record low, positioning it as the worst performer among the Asian currencies. Despite the better-than-expected trade balance number, the rupee was unable to find support. This lack of resilience is primarily attributed to a significant demand-supply imbalance, driven by high dollar demand from importers and persistent capital outflows, which remain the biggest concerns for the currency.

In the near term, the technical bias for the spot USDINR pair remains bullish, with key resistance at 90.95 and support at 90.50.

Sensex Today | Rajani Sinha, Chief Economist

Wholesale prices remained in deflation in November, declining by 0.3%. However, the extent of deflation narrowed compared to the previous month due to a seasonal increase in prices of select food items. While food prices continued to remain in deflation, elevated edible oil inflation limited further easing in overall food inflation. This remains a key area to monitor amid weak kharif oilseed sowing and elevated global prices of edible oils. Additionally, the government’s decision to impose a 30% import duty on certain pulses is expected to lend support to prices in the segment.

On the external front, global commodity prices are expected to remain broadly benign, supported by oversupply in the global crude oil market and excess capacity in China. However, several base metals, including copper, tin, and aluminium, along with precious metals such as gold and silver, have witnessed sharp price increases. These gains have been driven by strong industrial demand from the renewable energy and AI sectors, US Federal Reserve rate cuts, and expectations of fiscal stimulus in China. Movements in global base metal prices remain a key monitorable. Overall, WPI inflation appears to have bottomed out in October and is expected to remain largely flat over FY26.

Sanjay Kumar, CEO & MD, Rassense

The excellent performance in wholesale inflation for November 2025 with a -0.32 y-o-y growth indicates a gradual normalization in the cost pressures along the supply chain, with much of the assistance of lower food prices and a reversal in the energy related inputs such as mineral oils and crude petroleum. The consecutive direction of movement with 0.19 per cent in September and -1.21 per cent in October then a more moderate movement now indicate that deflationary pressures continue to exist but are stabilising as opposed to deepening.

Domestically, the trend is friendly to the immediate consumption. Reduced wholesale input prices can take strain off the manufacturers, increase margins and leave place of selective price amendment or promotion at the retail stage which can trigger demand - at least in discretionary, mass-consumption lines. In a macro view, the benign WPI inflation will offset the moderation in the retail inflation and the continuity of policy will also be a very strong argument in favour of the investment sentiment.

Food supply situations are also favourable and looking to the future, commodity prices have been in a range and as long as the purchasing power improves, consumption will recover steadily, and a stable GDP growth will materialize, even in the face of global uncertainties.

Ravi Singh, Chief Research Officer from Master Capital Services

Wakefit Innovations made a muted debut on the exchanges today, opening at Rs 195 in line with the issue price but below grey market premium projections. The flat listing indicates a cautious market sentiment despite the company’s strong brand recall and improving fundamentals. The company offers a wide range of products that includes mattresses, furniture, and furnishings and is the largest direct to consumer home and furnishings brand in India.

Wakefit Innovations serves clients in over 700 districts in 28 states and 6 union territories with its strong omnichannel approach that integrates its own channels with other platforms. After reporting losses in prior years, Wakefit turned profitable in Q2 FY2026 due to its improved product mix and operational efficiency.

The Indian home and furnishings sector is expected to reach Rs 5.2–5.9 trillion by CY2030 by growing at a CAGR of 11–13%. Despite the flat debut, the company holds potential for long-term investors backed by improving fundamentals and sector tailwinds.

In the near term, investors should watch Q3FY26 results for margin sustainability amid competitive pricing pressures. As a recent listing, liquidity is likely to build up gradually, making the stock suitable for growth-oriented portfolios seeking exposure to India's evolving consumer lifestyle.

Akshat Garg, Head - Research & Product at Choice Wealth

The Indian rupee started the day on a weak note, slipping to a fresh all-time low of 90.56 against the US dollar in early morning trade. The move reflects growing pressure on the currency amid a mix of global uncertainty and India-specific capital flow challenges.

Foreign portfolio investors have continued to pare exposure to Indian equities and debt, leading to steady dollar outflows. At the same time, importers are actively buying dollars, while exporters are holding back conversions in anticipation of further rupee weakness, creating a clear demand–supply imbalance. Despite the US dollar softening globally, the rupee has remained under pressure due to these domestic flow dynamics.

Market participants also remain cautious amid lingering uncertainty around India–US trade discussions and broader geopolitical risks. The Reserve Bank of India has been present in the market to smooth volatility, but it is allowing the currency to adjust gradually rather than defend any specific level.

In the near term, the rupee is expected to remain volatile, with movements driven more by flows and sentiment than fundamentals.

Shivani Nyati, Head of Wealth at Swastika Investmart

Wakefit Innovations made a quiet stock market debut, listing at par at ₹195 on the NSE, in line with its IPO price, while opening marginally lower at ₹194.10 on the BSE. The muted listing reflected moderate investor demand, as the ₹1,289-crore IPO was subscribed 2.52× overall, with QIBs at 3.04×, NIIs fully subscribed, and retail investors showing relatively better interest at 3.17×.

Wakefit operates as a D2C home and furnishings brand, with a growing presence across mattresses, furniture, and home solutions, supported by an omnichannel distribution model and brand-led customer engagement. However, limited listing gains were expected due to competitive intensity in the D2C space, margin pressures, and the need to demonstrate sustained profitability at scale.

Given the lack of listing gains and near-term catalysts, investors may consider exiting the stock, especially if prices fail to move above the issue price. Risk-averse investors are advised to book capital and avoid holding, while traders may keep a strict stop-loss near ₹180 if holding briefly.
