Sudeep Shah, Head - Technical and Derivatives Research at SBI Securities
After a strong close above the psychological 26000 mark on Monday, the benchmark index Nifty lost momentum on Tuesday, slipping below the key level as profit booking dominated trade. This pullback underscores the persistent selling pressure at higher zones, despite repeated attempts to break out. Notably, this was the third recent effort by the index to sustain above 26000, reinforcing its significance as a major resistance point for bulls.
By the end of the session, Nifty closed at 25910 with a loss of 0.40%, forming a Bearish Engulfing candlestick pattern on the daily chart. Among Nifty constituents, Bharti Airtel and Axis Bank were top gainers, while Indigo and Tech Mahindra led the losers’ pack. Sectoral performance was largely negative, with all indices ending in the red. Nifty Realty and Nifty IT were the worst hit.
The broader markets underperformed sharply. Nifty Midcap 100 also formed a Bearish Engulfing pattern, while Nifty Smallcap 100 ended lower, indicating weakness beyond the frontline indices. Market breadth was decisively negative, with the advance/decline ratio tilted towards decliners. From the Nifty 500 universe, only 101 stocks managed to close in the green, highlighting the extent of selling pressure.
Nifty View
Going forward, the zone of 25800–25750 is expected to act as a crucial support for Nifty. A decisive break and sustained move below 25750 could trigger further downside, potentially dragging the index towards 25600 in the short term.
On the flip side, the 26000–26050 zone remains a significant hurdle for bulls. A strong and sustainable move above 26050 may pave the way for a sharp upside rally, with targets around 26200.
Bank Nifty View
The Bank Nifty index has relatively outperformed the frontline indices, ending near 58900 with a marginal loss of 0.11%, showcasing resilience despite broader market weakness. The price action indicates that the banking space continues to hold strength even as profit booking weighs on other sectors.
Going ahead, the zone of 59100–59200 will act as a critical hurdle for the index. A decisive and sustainable move above 59200 could trigger a sharp upside rally, opening the path towards 59600, and potentially 60000 in the short term.
On the downside, the 58600–58500 zone remains an important support area. A breach of this zone may lead to further weakness, but as long as the index holds above these levels, the overall trend remains constructive.

Ajit Mishra – SVP, Research, Religare Broking
Markets witnessed a volatile session on weekly expiry day and slipped nearly half a percent, extending the ongoing consolidation phase. After an initial dip, the Nifty swung sharply in both directions through the day and eventually settled near the day’s low at around the 25,910 mark. Sectoral performance was broadly weak, with realty, IT and metal leading the decline. The broader markets too came under pressure, as evident from the subdued market breadth and notable weakness in small-cap counters.
Recent market action reflects a cautiously optimistic undertone, supported by firm domestic macro indicators. However, heightened global volatility continues to cap momentum and trigger intermittent bouts of profit-taking, preventing a sustained directional move.
Going ahead, we expect further consolidation to persist, which would be healthy as long as the Nifty holds above its key short-term support—the 20-DEMA, which currently lies around 25,700.
Participants should continue to prioritise stock selection based on relative strength across sectors, with a preference for large-cap and stronger mid-cap names, while maintaining a measured approach amid the prevailing choppiness.

Abhinav Tiwari, Research Analyst at Bonanza
Today, the Indian stock markets ended on a negative note, snapping a six-session winning streak as both the Sensex and Nifty closed lower. The Nifty closed at 25,910 mark, and the Sensex settled at 84,673 with a drop of around 278 points, pressured mainly by metals and financials, with majors like Tech Mahindra and Bajaj Finance among the top laggards. The primary reason for the decline was the weak global cues; major Asian indices followed Wall Street lower after the Dow Jones, S&P 500, and Nasdaq ended sharply down the previous night.
India's merchandise trade deficit for October widened to a record high of USD 41.68 billion driven by a surge in gold imports and a sharp contraction in outbound shipments, underscoring concerns around the country’s external finances. Uncertainty in global equity markets was also driven by U.S. jobs data and Nvidia's earnings.
Looking ahead, markets could remain volatile as global headwinds and macroeconomic uncertainties persist. Investors will keenly watch upcoming global economic releases and cues from the ongoing trade discussions between India and the US for direction. In the near term, the record trade deficit and the ongoing profit-booking may keep indices under check, although solid domestic buying and previous momentum could limit further downside if global cues improve.

Rupak De, Senior Technical Analyst at LKP Securities
The Nifty remained confined within a 150-point range, marking the second consecutive day of consolidation. A bearish engulfing pattern has formed on the daily chart, suggesting a pause in the ongoing price rise. The hourly RSI has entered a bearish crossover, and the index has formed a lower top on the hourly timeframe, indicating an initial weakening of the trend.
On the lower end, support is placed at 25,850; a fall below this level might trigger further correction towards 25,700. On the other hand, resistance is visible at 26,000–26,050, above which the trend may reverse.

Vinod Nair, Head of Research, Geojit Investments
The domestic equity market edged lower as investors booked profits after the recent rebound, mirroring weak global sentiment. Expectations of a U.S. Fed rate cut in December have diminished, weighing on sentiment, with IT, metal, and realty stocks declining amid a stronger dollar, while private banks offered some support.
Investors now await this week’s U.S. jobs data, which will be key in shaping the Fed’s policy outlook.
Going forward, progress on the Indo-U.S. trade deal and a strengthening domestic earnings outlook could help revive confidence and support market momentum to convincingly cross the Nifty50 threshold of 26,000.

Amarjeet Singh, WTM , SEBI at CII Financing Summit
There has been a shift from shareholders to stakeholders, from profit to profit plus purpose.
There has been a decline in promoter holdings to 50 percent from 57.6 in 2009. FPI Ownership is also at a 15 year low of 16 percent. MF ownership has more than doubled to a record 10.9 percent. Individual ownership has also grown to 18.75 percent. There has been a clear shift in retail investing .
That is why corporate governance becomes more important. Is is always been important, but it's more important now, now than ever. If we want investors to come with the right knowledge to the market, they should be aware of what is good for them.

Shivani Nyati, Head of Wealth at Swastika Investmart
PhysicsWallah began its market journey with a great opening, listing at Rs 145 and Rs 143.10 on the NSE and BSE, respectively, as compared to its issue price of Rs 109.
The listing reflected investor confidence in PW’s strong brand recall, affordable test-prep offerings, and its fast-growing hybrid model through both online platforms and PW Pathshala centers.
The company’s strengths include a loyal student base, scalable digital content engine, expanding offline footprint, and diversified presence across JEE, NEET, UPSC, and state-level exams. However, competition from other edtech and offline coaching giants, regulatory uncertainties in the education sector, and the challenge of sustaining profitability during expansion remain key risks.
The IPO garnered healthy retail participation, supported by expectations of continued demand for hybrid learning and deeper penetration in Tier II–III markets. Allottees may book partial profits and hold the remaining shares for medium-term growth with SL 130.
