Santosh Meena, Head of Research at Swastika Investmart
In light of the sharp pre-Budget correction, investors looking for safety and value should consider a defensive rotation mixed with strategic long-term bets. The most attractive pockets of value currently appear to be large-cap private banks and select Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs). Private lenders like HDFC Bank, Kotak Mahindra Bank, and Federal Bank have seen their valuations moderate significantly, offering a favorable entry point relative to their historical averages.
Simultaneously, despite the recent pullback in broader markets, the structural story for PSUs remains intact; stocks like ONGC, BEL, and Hindustan Copper are compelling due to their alignment with energy security, defense indigenization, and industrial demand. Additionally, allocating capital to the FMCG sector can provide a necessary defensive hedge, offering earnings visibility and stability to the portfolio during this period of heightened volatility.
The 25,000 mark has emerged as the critical immediate support level for the Nifty, serving as a vital psychological floor that coincides with the 200-Day Moving Average (200-DMA). This confluence of technical indicators suggests that 25,000 is a "make-or-break" zone for the index.
If the Nifty manages to respect and hold this level, we can expect a technical recovery or relief rally as the market stabilizes and positions itself in anticipation of favorable Budget announcements. However, investors should remain cautious, as a decisive breach below this 200-DMA support could signal a deeper correction and invite further selling pressure in the near term.

Sudeep Shah, Head - Technical and Derivatives Research at SBI Securities
Nifty remained confined within the first five minutes opening candle range for nearly an hour before drifting lower to an intraday low of 24,920. Strong buying interest emerged at lower levels, triggering a steady pullback towards the day’s high zone of 25,275–25,300. However, the index failed to sustain at higher levels and witnessed renewed selling pressure, eventually closing at 25,158, down 0.30% for the day.
Technically, the index has formed a doji (indecision) candle with wicks on both sides, highlighting indecision and a lack of clear control by either bulls or bears at the close. Nifty also ended marginally below its 200-day EMA at 25,163, keeping the near-term outlook cautious.
On the sectoral front, Nifty Metal and Nifty Oil & Gas ended the day with modest gains. On the other hand, majority of the sectors ended in the red with Nifty Capital Markets and Defence emerging as the top two sectoral losers. With regards to stocks, Eternal & Indigo emerged as the top stock gainers amongst the Nifty pack while ICICI Bank & Trent emerged as the top two losers, losing over 2% each.
The Midcap Index has declined 3.76% in the last two sessions. The sharp sell-off has resulted in the index closing below its 200-day EMA at 58,172, with momentum indicators and oscillators reinforcing the bearish price action, indicating further vulnerability in the near term.
The sell-off has been even more pronounced in the smallcap space. The index decisively broke below its previous swing low of 17,050, extended the decline further, and closed at 16,551, down 0.90%. The breakdown suggests continued pressure, with risk appetite remaining subdued in the broader market.
The advance-decline ratio was skewed in the favour of bears at day’s close. A total of 312 stocks out of the Nifty 500 universe ended in the red.
Nifty View
Going ahead, for Nifty, the zone of 24,950-24,900 will act as an immediate support. Any sustained move below the 25,900 level could lead to Index extending its weakness further down towards the 25,700 level, followed by 25,500. On the upside, the zone of 25,300-25,350 will act as an as immediate support.
Bank Nifty View
Bank Nifty, which had been comfortably holding above its upward-sloping trendline on the daily chart, eventually gave way and closed below it, ending the session at 58,800, down 1.02%.
With this close, the index has slipped below its 50-day EMA of 59,040. Momentum indicators continue to weaken, with the RSI in a declining mode and hovering near the 40 level. Additionally, DI- crossing below DI+ suggests that bearish momentum is gradually strengthening. Unless Bank Nifty decisively reclaims its 50-day EMA and the broken trendline, the probability of a strong pullback remains limited.
Going ahead, for Bank Nifty, the 100-Day EMA zone of 58,200-58,100 will act as an immediate support. Any sustained below the 58,100 level, could lead to Index extending its down move further towards the 57,800 level. On the upside, the zone of 59,100-59,200 will act as an as immediate resistance.

The Nifty has fallen below the 200DMA on an intraday basis for the first time in many weeks. It usually shakes the market when the 200DMA is challenged, and it is not going to be just black and white. Over the next few days, the index may remain highly volatile.
On the lower end, support is placed at 25,125. A decisive fall below 25,125 could trigger further panic in the market. On the higher end, resistance on a closing basis is placed at 25,200.

Nagaraj Shetti, Senior Technical Research Analyst at HDFC Securities
After showing sharp weakness on Tuesday, Nifty shifted into a high volatility with weak bias on Wednesday and closed the day lower by 75 points. Nifty opened on a weak note and continued with negative trend in the early-mid part of the session. Upside recovery has emerged from near 24900 levels in the mid part, but the market was not able to sustain the recovery towards the end and closed lower.
A small green candle has been formed on the daily chart with long upper and lower shadow. Technically, this market action indicates a formation of doji type candle pattern (not a classical one), which is reflecting ongoing volatility in the market. Normally a formation of doji after a reasonable decline calls for a reversal post confirmation.
The underlying trend of the market continues to be weak. Nifty is finding difficulty in sustaining above the crucial support of 25150 levels (200day EMA). Further weakness below 24900 could possibly drag Nifty down to 24500 in the near term. However, a sustainable upmove above 25200 is likely to open short term bounce back in the market.

Today, the Indian stock market continued its downward trend. Weak global cues and ongoing selling by foreign investors kept pressure on the markets. The Sensex fell by around 270 basis points, while the Nifty 50 closed at 25,157. The main reason for the fall was rising global uncertainty. Fresh trade tension worries emerged after US President Donald Trump threatened new tariffs on European countries linked to the Greenland dispute. In addition, concerns over possible steep tariffs on countries importing Russian oil increased global risk aversion. Alongside these global factors, domestic issues also weighed on sentiment, as several large companies especially in IT and financial services reported weaker than expected quarter earnings.
At the same time, the Indian rupee weakened further, slipping past its earlier record low to trade near 91.72 against the USD. Market volatility also increased sharply, as reflected by a 8% jump in India VIX.
Looking ahead, markets are expected to remain volatile. The Union Budget on February 1, 2026, could improve sentiment, especially if it focuses on higher spending in areas like railways and defence. Until global trade concerns ease, caution is likely to continue, though buying by domestic investors has provided some support.

Domestic markets were gripped by volatility as global risk factors dampened sentiment. However, value buying towards the close helped the market recover some early losses.
In this challenging environment, tepid earnings from the banking and IT sectors are adding to the overall pressure on equities.
The weakening INR and uncertainties surrounding trade ties may prolong this volatility. Nevertheless, the ongoing earnings season could present selective accumulation opportunities as the next session is expected to be better-off led by the resilient domestic demand.

The Indian rupee has plunged to a record low as heavy foreign capital outflows from domestic equities and a prolonged delay in a U.S. trade deal continue to weigh on market sentiment. The currency remains under severe pressure from heightening global geopolitical uncertainties. The pace of this depreciation has been so aggressive that intermittent central bank interventions have struggled to provide a meaningful floor.
In the near term, spot USDINR is expected to find technical support at 91.08, with immediate resistance seen at 92.05.

Vishnu Kant Upadhyay, AVP - Research Advisory, Master Capital Services
With markets seeing a sharp correction ahead of the Budget, selective buying opportunities are emerging for investors with a medium- to long-term view. PSU banks appear relatively attractive at this stage, supported by reasonable valuations, improving asset quality, and strong relative performance compared to the broader market. Apart from banks, infrastructure-linked sectors such as railways and defence could also remain in focus. Traditionally, the Union Budget places strong emphasis on capital expenditure, infrastructure development, and self-reliance themes, which directly benefit these segments.
The Nifty has corrected nearly 5% from its all-time high and is currently hovering around its 200-day EMA, a crucial long-term support zone. Immediate support is placed in the 25000–24800 range, which is likely to act as a strong demand area in the near term. As market is in oversold trajectory, the probability of a technical rebound remains high with potential upsurge towards the 25500–25700 levels in the short term.

Aakash Shah, Technical Research Analyst at Choice Equity Broking
Kalyan Jewellers has witnessed sharp selling pressure, with the stock correcting nearly 13% in a single session and extending its decline to the 9th consecutive day, highlighting strong bearish momentum and sustained distribution.
On the daily chart, price has broken decisively below all key moving averages (20, 50, 100 & 200 EMA), confirming a well-established downtrend. The EMAs are stacked bearishly and sloping downward, indicating continued selling pressure and absence of short-term trend support.
The latest breakdown candle is a large bearish candle accompanied by expanded volume, suggesting panic selling or aggressive unwinding. The lack of any immediate fundamental trigger further reinforces the technical nature of this move, pointing toward strong institutional selling activity.
Immediate support is placed in the 390–380 zone, where price is currently reacting. This area may provide a temporary pause or technical bounce; however, no reversal confirmation is visible yet. A sustained breakdown below this zone could open the doors for further downside toward lower demand areas.
Structurally, the stock has broken below its prior consolidation base near 440–450, which now acts as a strong overhead supply zone. As long as price remains below this level, the broader trend bias stays bearish and any bounce should be viewed as a corrective move rather than a trend reversal.
