The Indian rupee’s two-day winning streak snapped today, weighed down by soft regional peers and a rebound in commodity prices. Market activity remained subdued as the focus shifts to Friday’s RBI interest rate announcement.
The USDINR pair maintains its upward trajectory within a bullish channel on the weekly chart. Key support lies at 90.05, while resistance stands at 91.10. As long as prices stay above 90, the bullish trend stays intact.

After showing a massive upmove and the formation of huge opening upside gap on Tuesday, Nifty moved up gradually amidst range movement on Wednesday and closed the day higher by 48 points. Nifty opened on a weak note on the backdrop of selling pressure in IT sector and recovered smartly from the lows of 25563 levels. It later moved into a range bound action with positive bias for the mid to later part of the session.
A small bullish candle has been formed on the daily chart with minor upper and lower shadow. The said market action indicates a breather type pattern in the market after a massive upmove of Tuesday. The huge opening upside gap of Tuesday remains intact with partially filled.
The underlying short-term trend of the Nifty continues to be positive. The next upside hurdles to be watched around 26000 and next 26350 levels in the near term. Immediate support is placed at 25600.

Abhinav Tiwari Research Analyst at Bonanza
Today, the Indian equity markets ended the session on a flat. Sensex was slightly up by 79 points and closed around 83,817, while the Nifty 50 closed at 25,776.
The main drag came from the IT sector. Global tech stocks fell sharply overnight on concerns that rapid advancements in artificial intelligence could disrupt traditional software business models. This led to heavy selling in Indian IT stocks, with the Nifty IT index falling nearly 6% in early trade. News around AI also remained in focus. Anthropic announced major upgrades to its AI model Claude,
improving efficiency, memory usage, and enterprise integration. While such developments highlight long term opportunities for technology adoption, they have raised short term concerns around pricing pressure and margins for IT companies, leading to near term caution.
On the banking side, IDBI Bank remained in focus as the divestment process moved closer to final bids. Fairfax Financial has emerged as a key contender, with Kotak Mahindra Bank also in the race. This supported select banking stocks and helped limit downside in the Bank Nifty.
Looking ahead, the positive impact of the India-US trade deal remains intact, and we are likely to remain selective, tracking global cues, crude prices, and Q3 earnings for further direction.

Markets traded range-bound on Wednesday as investors assessed follow-through activity after Tuesday’s strong rally triggered by the India–US trade deal. After a flat start, the Nifty oscillated within a narrow band through the session and ended marginally higher at 25,779.5. Sectoral trends were mixed, with buying interest visible in auto, metal and energy stocks, while the IT index declined sharply and underperformed the broader market. Market breadth remained firmly positive, supported by a sustained rebound in midcap and smallcap stocks.
Sentiment stayed cautious amid mixed global cues and some profit booking following the recent relief rally. Weakness in global technology stocks weighed on domestic IT counters, leading to sectoral divergence. At the same time, optimism surrounding the India–US trade agreement and expectations of improved foreign participation continued to support cyclical stocks and select heavyweight names.
After the recent sharp swings, some consolidation would be healthy as long as the Nifty holds the 25,400–25,500 zone. On the upside, the index may attempt a move towards the 26,000 level, followed by a gradual push towards record highs. Among key sectors, banking, energy, metal and auto continue to show resilience, while pharma, FMCG and IT remain relatively subdued. Participants should align positions accordingly, with an emphasis on stock selection and disciplined trade management.

Nifty opened on a weak note and traded within an extremely narrow range throughout the session, eventually closing at 25,776, marginally higher by 0.19%. Following the strong gap-up opening in the previous session, the index gave up most of its gains in the very first candle and has since remained stuck in a tight consolidation phase. Such prolonged narrow-range action is typically followed by a sharp directional move. Despite the lack of momentum, Nifty has managed to hold above its 50-day EMA for the last two sessions, indicating underlying support at lower levels.
On the sectoral front, Nifty Oil & Gas ended the day as the top gainer with gains of over 2%. Nifty PSE also saw gains nearly 2%. On the other hand, Nifty IT closed nearly 6% lower and ended the day as a top sectoral loser. The selloff in the IT index was due to concerns that AI was creating more competition for software makers, after U.S AI based Anthropic’s launch of a legal tool for its Claude AI chatbot. With regards to stocks, Trent & Eternal emerged as the top stock gainers amongst the Nifty pack while Infosys & TCS emerged as the top two losers.
The Midcap Index formed a bullish candle with a relatively long lower wick, signalling buying interest emerging at lower levels. Notably, this demand came near the 20-day EMA, reinforcing it as a key short-term support for the index. Smallcaps outperformed both the Midcap and frontline indices. The index formed a sizeable bullish candle on the daily chart, indicating stronger risk appetite. Similar to the Midcap Index, Smallcaps found solid support around the 20-day EMA for the second consecutive session, highlighting buying interest at lower levels.
The advance-decline ratio was skewed in the favour of bulls at day’s close. A total of 317 stocks out of the Nifty 500 universe ended in the green.
Nifty View
Going ahead, the immediate resistance for Nifty is placed in the 25,950–26,000 zone. A decisive breakout and a strong follow through above this zone could result in Nifty extending its pullback towards 26,200, followed by 26,400 in the near term. On the downside, the zone of 25,600–25,550 zone is likely to act as a strong support.
Bank Nifty View
Mirroring Nifty’s price action, Bank Nifty also traded in an exceptionally tight range for most of the day and closed at 60,238, up 0.33%. The 58,800–58,900 zone continues to act as a strong support area, having successfully held over the last two trading sessions. Sustaining above this zone kept the broader structure intact, even as momentum remained muted.
For Bank Nifty, the immediate resistance is placed in the 60,500–60,600 zone, making it a crucial supply area to watch. Any sustained move above this zone could lead to Index continuing its up move on the upside towards 61,000, followed by 61,300 in the near term. On the downside, the zone of 59,800–59,700 zone is likely to act as a strong support.

Domestic equities witnessed a volatile session, swinging between gains and losses as rising US–Iran tensions kept investors on edge. Mid cap and small cap stocks outperformed large caps as value buying emerged following a recent correction. Sectoral buying was visible in consumer durables, oil & gas, metals, and auto sectors. However, overall upside remained limited due to weakness in IT stocks amid concerns over reduced demand for traditional outsourcing following Anthropic’s introduction of new AI driven automation tools. Going forward, market sentiment will largely be guided by the upcoming RBI policy decision and greater clarity on the newly announced US–India trade agreement.

Spot gold extended gains for a second consecutive session today, surging above $5,050/oz after rebounding sharply from lows below $4,500/oz hit last week. The rally was supported by a softer dollar and aggressive dip-buying following a brutal sell-off that had pushed prices nearly 20% below record highs. Spot silver also advanced, climbing above $90/oz after a recent sell-off that had left prices more than 40% below record levels. This follows yesterday’s strong rebound, when spot gold jumped more than 6% to settle above $4,945/oz, its largest single-day gain since November 2008, while silver surged 7.5% to $85.2/oz.
Markets are now focused on US ADP non-farm payrolls data and final services PMI readings from major global economies. However, the primary focus remains on Friday’s official US jobs report for signals on the timing of the next Federal Reserve rate cut. CME FedWatch currently shows no easing priced in until May, with June reflecting just a 44.1% probability of a 25bp cut versus a 44.9% chance of rates being held unchanged.
WTI crude oil held above $64/bbl earlier today after being further supported by a massive 11 million-barrel inventory draw reported by the API, raising expectations of a similar draw in the upcoming EIA data. This follows a 2% rally in the previous session, driven by renewed geopolitical tensions after the US shot down an Iranian drone near an American aircraft carrier in the Arabian Sea. Oil prices have been volatile amid the US–Iran standoff, turbulence across broader commodity markets, and movements in the dollar index. Currently, gains have faded, with prices slipping back toward $63/bbl as markets also monitor trilateral peace talks involving the US, Ukraine, and Russia, as well as still-scheduled US–Iran negotiations in Istanbul on Friday, despite the recent flare-up in tensions.

The session remained decisively two-paced across sectors. Most indices were in the green, led by Consumer Durables (up 2.6 percent), Energy and Oil & Gas (around 2 percent higher), along with steady gains in Auto, Infra, Metals and Realty. The clear outlier was Nifty IT, which was down nearly 6 percent and continued to drag on the benchmarks, while Pharma saw only a marginal dip. A sharp fall in India VIX -- down over 5 percent -- suggested easing volatility expectations despite the heavy sell-off in technology stocks.

N. Arunagiri, CEO, TrustLine Holdings
With the US trade deal now concluded, a prolonged source of uncertainty for markets is finally behind us. That overhang had weighed on sentiment and risk appetite for an extended period, and its resolution provides an important near-term relief.
However, what matters more for markets from here is what comes after the deal.
First, the tailwinds from structural reforms that the government has been able to push through by using this period of uncertainty as political cover. Taking advantage of political space created by the prolonged uncertainties to undertake more difficult and sometimes unpopular reforms, and the continuation of this reform momentum will be a key tailwind for markets going forward.
Second, the rupee's long-overdue retracement. At current levels, it appears meaningfully undervalued and has been among the worst-performing emerging market currencies over the past year. Any stabilisation or appreciation in the rupee could act as a powerful catalyst for the return of foreign institutional investors, providing much-needed liquidity support to the markets.
Third, we expect a meaningful earnings recovery in FY27, with the potential for a return to double-digit growth amid improvement in demand conditions.
Taken together - structural reforms, currency retracement, and earnings recovery amid slew of FTAs - these factors create a strong and supportive backdrop for markets. From this perspective, the medium-term setup looks increasingly constructive, and we believe these are very positive times for the markets especially for broader small and midcaps.
We expect a meaningful recovery in small and midcaps over time after the initial spurt today. It is opportune time to increase exposure to small and caps, but in stock-specific and bottom-up manner. It is time to be choosy and selective for a big alpha in returns over medium term.

Sachin Sawrikar, Managing Partner, Artha Bharat Investment Managers IFSC
The upcoming RBI MPC meeting will be closely watched as markets focus on the central bank’s approach to managing liquidity and financial conditions amid elevated government borrowing and persistent foreign portfolio investor outflows. Continued USD purchases by FPIs are draining domestic liquidity, tightening financial conditions despite steady policy rates. Combined with heavy government bond supply, this is putting upward pressure on yields, constraining credit availability, and raising the cost of domestic fund-raising.
Markets will closely track the RBI’s assessment of these dynamics and its commentary on liquidity tools. Any guidance on proactive measures to maintain adequate system liquidity and ensure orderly bond market functioning will be critical for investor confidence and market stability. Overall, the MPC is expected to emphasise macroeconomic stability and transmission efficiency, signalling that policy effectiveness at this stage relies more on calibrated liquidity management and stable financial conditions rather than immediate adjustments to interest rates.

Joseph Thomas, Head of Research, Emkay Wealth Management
While geopolitical developments could support oil prices in the very short term, the underlying fundamentals suggest be that any rally will be limited. With demand growth remaining muted and global inventories expected to rise further, Brent crude is likely to stay range-bound over the medium term.
Energy companies and market participants will need to navigate this phase with capital discipline and a focus on operational efficiency rather than relying on price-led growth.

Hitesh Tailor, Technical Research Analyst of Choice Broking
HAL is currently trading around ₹4,235, navigating a retracement phase within its broader long-term uptrend. On the weekly chart, the stock is oscillating in a sideways zone between 4,000 and 4,500. It is currently facing stiff resistance at the 50-week EMA near the 4,450–4,550 range, while the 100-week EMA around 4,100 provides a critical floor that must be sustained to maintain the structural integrity of the trend.
Momentum remains subdued, with the RSI at 39.87 reflecting a short-term downside bias and a lack of immediate buying pressure. This indicates that the stock is in a "wait-and-watch" phase as it seeks to stabilize near key support levels. A reversal in the RSI toward the 50-60 zone would be necessary to signal a shift back toward positive momentum.
For a fresh bullish entry, traders should wait for a decisive breakout above 4,500 supported by healthy volume. Sustaining above this level would confirm the end of the consolidation and likely trigger a continuation of the primary uptrend.

Nifty IT rout deepens, tech stocks dominate top losers list
IT stocks are firmly in the driver’s seat on the downside, dragging the benchmark indices lower. Infosys leads the losses on the Nifty 50, sliding nearly 8 percent, followed by sharp declines in Tech Mahindra (over 6 percent), TCS (around 6 percent), HCL Tech (nearly 6 percent) and Wipro (over 4 percent). The heavy sell-off in frontline IT names underscores sustained pressure on the sector, even as losses elsewhere on the index remain relatively contained.

ONGC topped the Nifty gainers with a nearly 4 percent rise, followed by Power Grid Corp, Coal India and NTPC, while consumption-linked names such as Trent, Titan Company and Maruti Suzuki also traded higher. Bharti Airtel and Jio Financial added modest gains, pointing to selective buying outside the IT space even as broader sentiment remains cautious.
