Markets edged higher for the third consecutive session amid volatility and ended with modest gains. After opening near flat, the Nifty drifted lower initially and then moved in a range for most of the session. However, noticeable traction in select heavyweight stocks during the final hours helped the index close near the day’s high at 25,819.30. Sectoral performance was largely in line with the benchmark, with metals, FMCG and banking emerging as the top gainers, while IT slipped after the recent rebound. Broader indices, including midcaps and smallcaps, saw selective participation and gained about 0.5% each.
Sentiment remained measured due to weak global technology cues and broader risk-off behaviour in overseas markets, while expectations around macro data and corporate earnings continued to influence positioning. In the absence of fresh domestic triggers, trading activity stayed selective and stock-specific throughout the session.
Market participants are attempting to regain control, but indications still favour an extended consolidation phase. The 26,000 level remains a key hurdle for the Nifty, while the 25,400–25,600 zone is likely to offer support on any dip. In this environment, a stock-specific approach is advisable, with focus on sectors and themes showing consistent trends, along with disciplined position sizing given the possibility of renewed volatility.

The Nifty gave a consolidation breakout on the 15-minute chart, leading to a rally towards the end of the session. Sentiment has improved significantly over the last three sessions, as the index reclaimed the 25,500 support after a brief decline and then crossed the 25,800 resistance, providing double confirmation of strength.
In the short term, 25,500 is likely to act as a crucial support level. As long as it holds, buyers are likely to dominate. On the higher end, the index may extend gains towards 26,000 and above.

Today, the Indian equities continued their upward move. Benchmark indices closed in the green, with the Nifty 50 closed at 25,820 and the Sensex settling at 83,734. Gains in FMCG, metals, and PSU banks helped offset ongoing weakness in IT stocks, resulting in another positive day for domestic markets.
FMCG stocks led the gains, supported mainly by a rebound in cigarette companies. Stocks such as ITC, Godfrey Phillips, and VST Industries moved higher as investors assessed that recent price hikes and changes in the tax structure could help protect margins despite higher taxes. Reports of sharp price increases across multiple product categories at ITC, along with strong gains in Godfrey Phillips and VST Industries, drove buying interest across the broader cigarette segment.
Metals and PSU banks also performed well, with both indices closing around 1% higher. This strength helped cushion the impact of profit-taking seen in IT stocks, where concerns around global tech spending continue to weigh on sentiment.
Global cues were supportive, led by Japan’s latest GDP data. Japan’s economy grew 0.1% QoQ in Q4 2025, translating into a 0.2% annualised growth. While the data was slightly below expectations, it helped Japan narrowly avoid a technical recession, easing near term worries around global demand.
Looking ahead, the market outlook remains cautiously positive. We are balancing stable domestic fundamentals and earnings visibility against high valuations and global growth risks. In the near term, flows are likely to favour large cap financials, consumption led names, and quality PSU stocks, while IT may remain volatile. Overall, the trend stays positive, with stock selection and earnings delivery remaining key.

Nifty opened on a weak note and slipped in early trade but found support in the previous session’s support zone of 25640–25660. The index consolidated around this band for some time and then staged a steady recovery as the day progressed to close at 25819, up 0.37%.
On the daily chart, Nifty formed a small-bodied candle with a long lower wick, indicating strong buying interest at lower levels. Notably, this support area also aligns with the 20-day EMA, which continues to act as an important short-term trend support.
On the sectoral front, Nifty Metal ended the day as a top sectoral gainer followed by PSU Bank, which continued its strong run. On the other hand, Nifty IT, which witnessed a pullback from the lows in the earlier sessions failed to carry on the momentum and ended the day as the top sectoral loser, followed by Nifty CPSE. With regards to stocks, KWIL & HDFC Life emerged as the top stock gainers amongst the Nifty pack while Wipro & Tech Mahindra emerged as the top two losers.
The Midcap index has witnessed a steady rebound after taking support near its 100-day EMA, three days back. The recovery move has helped the index completely filled the 213-point gap formed on 13th Feb. Price action suggests improving sentiment in the broader market space.
The Smallcap index reclaimed its 20-day EMA in the previous session and followed it up with another higher close today. Relative strength in this segment remained evident, with broader markets outperforming the frontline indices during the session.
The market breadth was relatively strong as the advance-decline ratio was skewed in the favour of bulls at day’s close. A total of 274 stocks out of the Nifty 500 universe ended in the green.
Nifty View
Going ahead, the immediate resistance for Nifty is placed in the 25900–25950 zone. Any sustainable move above this zone could result in Nifty extending its up move towards 26100, followed by 26300 in the short term. On the downside, the zone of 25700–25650 zone is likely to act as an immediate support.
Bank Nifty View
Bank Nifty traded in a narrow sideways range during the first half of the session. Momentum picked up later after a decisive breakout above the key resistance zone near 61300, leading to a sharp intraday up move. The index closed at 61551, gaining 0.62%. After taking support at its 20-day EMA three sessions ago, the index has been trending higher and has now posted three consecutive higher close, reflecting improving short-term strength.
For Bank Nifty, the immediate resistance is placed in the 61800–61900 zone. Any sustainable move above this zone could result in Bank Nifty extending its up move towards 62300, followed by 62700 in the short term. On the downside, the zone of 61100–61000 zone is likely to act as an immediate support.

Vinod Nair, Head of Research, Geojit Investments
Indian markets witnessed a late surge driven by broad based buying after a cautious start, as positive domestic sectoral cues helped offset lingering global uncertainties. Banking and financial stocks remained resilient on the back of steady asset quality expectations, while selective buying in FMCG names contributed to relative outperformance. In contrast, the IT sector continued to lag, weighed down by concerns over AI led disruption and margin pressures, which kept investor sentiment subdued.
On the earnings front, Q3FY26 results for the Nifty 500 were broadly in line with expectations, underscoring that while growth trends remain mixed, the domestic macro environment continues to offer medium term stability.

Gold and silver traded with mild gains on 18 February, stabilising after recent sharp declines as bargain buying emerged at lower levels. MCX gold hovered near the Rs 1.52–1.55 lakh per 10g zone, while silver saw a modest rebound, reflecting short-covering after heavy profit-booking.
Near-term sentiment remains cautious amid a firmer US dollar and uncertainty around the policy outlook of the US Federal Reserve. However, safe-haven interest and ongoing central-bank buying continue to provide support on dips.
Overall, the current price action is being viewed as consolidation within a broader corrective phase rather than a breakdown of the long-term bullish trend. Investors may consider staggered accumulation, while traders should remain cautious amid elevated volatility.

Spot Gold and silver rebounded to $4940/oz and $76/oz respectively after two consecutive sessions of losses as traders look forward to FOMC meeting minutes, US Core PCE number and speeches by several Fed officials for clues on US monetary policy.
Recent FOMC commentary has been mixed as Fed Governor Michael Barr favors steady rates "for some time," while Chicago Fed's Austan Goolsbee sees cuts possible if inflation nears 2%. Yesterday, Gold closed below $4,880/oz, while silver closed at $73.50, both slipped to one-week lows weighed down by stronger dollar and improved geopolitical sentiment after Iran signaled a “general agreement” with the US on a potential nuclear deal.
Looking ahead, Asian volumes remain muted across major markets due to ongoing Lunar New Year holidays (till Feb. 23), limiting liquidity and risking short-term swings in precious metals.
WTI Crude Oil fell to a two-week low of $61.9/bbl on Tuesday after Iran’s foreign minister said recent talks were constructive, with both sides reaching an understanding on the main “guiding principles” of a potential deal. Prices retreated from an intraday high of $64.1/bbl, which had been driven by supply disruption concerns after Iran temporarily closed the Strait of Hormuz, a key global oil transit route, during military drills.
Meanwhile, the first day of trilateral talks aimed at ending the war in Ukraine concluded without a breakthrough; a second round of U.S.-mediated negotiations is scheduled in Geneva on Wednesday. Today, oil prices remain under pressure as progress in U.S.–Iran nuclear talks reduces the geopolitical risk premium, while traders stay cautious ahead of key U.S. economic data and lingering concerns about the AI outlook.

Aamir Makda Commodity & Currency Analyst, Choice Broking
The week-long closure of major hubs like the Shanghai Gold Exchange (SGE) for the Lunar New Year creates a significant "liquidity vacuum" in the global bullion market. As the world’s largest physical buyers go offline, trading volumes thin out, often resulting in exaggerated price volatility and wider bid-ask spreads. Historically, this period triggers a price correction; once the pre-holiday buying pressure from China ceases, traders who entered positions early often engage in profit-taking, leading to a downward shift in momentum.
Silver is particularly vulnerable during this timeframe compared to gold; because Chinese industrial production hits a standstill during the festivities, the dramatic drop in manufacturing demand makes silver prices much more susceptible to a sharp decline. With this perspective, it is advised to traders to avoid taking trades in bullion.

Hitesh Tailor, Technical Research Analyst at Choice Broking
OLA Electric Mobility is currently trading around ₹28.10 and continues to exhibit pronounced weakness across both daily and weekly timeframes. The stock remains firmly entrenched in a downtrend, marked by a consistent lower-high and lower-low formation, reflecting sustained selling pressure. Recently, it delivered a decisive break down below the strong ₹30–₹32 support zone, which had previously acted as a demand base. This breakdown confirms continuation of the prevailing bearish structure, and the breached zone is now likely to act as immediate resistance on any pullback.
Technically, the stock is trading below its key 50-, 100-, and 200-day EMAs on both daily and weekly charts, reinforcing the negative bias and lack of trend strength. Although the RSI stands at 27.57—indicating oversold conditions—and a mild bullish divergence is visible on the daily chart, there is still no concrete price confirmation of reversal.
For any meaningful upside, a shift in trend structure supported by strong volumes and positive fundamental triggers would be essential. Until then, traders are advised to remain cautious and avoid fresh long positions unless a clear technical and fundamental confirmation emerges.

Aakash Shah, Technical Research Analyst, Choice Broking
Indian equity markets are likely to open the February 18 session on a flat-to-positive footing, with GIFT Nifty trading near 25,769, up about 30 points—indicating a cautious but stable start.
In view of ongoing global uncertainties and heightened market volatility, traders are advised to remain disciplined and selective, focusing on fundamentally strong stocks during corrective phases.
Fresh long positions should be initiated only after a sustained breakout of the Nifty above the 26,000 level, which would indicate a more dependable improvement in overall market sentiment.
