Markets opened on a weak note and ended marginally lower, taking a breather after the recent rebound. Following an initial gap-down start, the Nifty index moved within a narrow range throughout the session and eventually settled at 25,227.35, down 0.23%. Most sectors traded in line with the benchmark and remained muted; however, resilience in banking and financial majors helped limit the downside. Interestingly, the broader indices also showed strength and managed to close almost flat.
Tariff escalation concerns—particularly after the U.S. President’s statement on the possibility of imposing an additional 100% duty on Chinese goods—triggered risk aversion across global equities, which in turn dampened domestic sentiment.
Looking ahead, earnings will remain the key focus, though global developments may continue to induce volatility. We suggest maintaining a positive bias as long as the Nifty holds above the 25,000 mark, and adopting a strategy of buying quality stocks on dips rather than taking aggressive leveraged positions.

Today, the benchmark indices witnessed a recovery from lower levels. The Nifty ended 58 points down, while the Sensex was down by 173 points. Among sectors, the Défense index lost the most, shedding over 1 percent, whereas despite weak market sentiment, the Capital Market index outperformed, rallying 2.55 percent. Technically, after a gap-down open, the market took support near 25,150/82,000 and bounced back sharply. From the day's lowest levels, the market bounce nearly 100/400 points.
We believe that the intraday market texture is volatile and non-directional; hence, level-based trading would be the ideal strategy for day traders. On the downside, 25,150/82,000 and 25,100/81,800 would act as key support zones, while 25,350-25,400/82,500-82,800 could serve as immediate resistance areas for the bulls. However, below 25,100/81,800, the market could retest the level of 25,000/81,500.

Today, the Indian stock market closed negatively, with the Sensex falling about 174 points to settle near 82,327 and the Nifty 50 losing around 58 points to close at approximately 25,227. The market faced broad-based selling pressure amid renewed concerns over US-China trade tensions. Investors remained cautious due to President Donald Trump’s warning of potentially stricter tariffs on China, creating uncertainty about the global trade environment. Although Trump softened his stance slightly by Sunday, the sentiment across Asian markets was still cautious, dragging down Indian benchmarks.
The India VIX, which measures market volatility, went up by about 9%, showing that investors are getting more nervous. Among sectors, FMCG, IT, and metal stocks dropped the most, while media, PSU banks, and financial services stocks saw some gains. Overall, mid cap stocks was positive, and small cap stocks fell slightly.
Key takeaways from today’s session include the market’s sensitivity to geopolitical and trade policy developments, highlighting the continued influence of global macro factors on Indian equities. The sustained FII buying in recent sessions partially cushioned losses. Additionally, investors are awaiting Q2 earnings from major companies such as HCL Technologies and Anand Rathi Wealth for signs of margin pressures or growth surprises.

The domestic markets started the week on a cautious note as the ongoing U.S. government shutdown and escalating U.S.-China trade tensions triggered risk-off sentiment across Asia.
Profit booking in consumption and discretionary sectors after recent rallies indicated a tactical shift in investor positioning. Mixed Q2 earnings further weighed on sentiment, with IT stocks underperforming, while financials attracted selective buying following regulatory easing.
Mid- and small-cap stocks maintained a positive undertone. Although a marginal recovery in the INR and softening inflation expectations helped cushion losses, overall sentiment remained guarded, keeping markets under a slight negative bias.
Nagaraj Shetti, Senior Technical Research Analyst at HDFC Securities
The market shifted into minor weakness on Monday after showing a couple of sessions of sustainable upmove. Nifty hit the road block around the hurdle of 25400-25500 levels (down sloping trend line hurdle) and moved into a consolidation. After opening on a negative note, the market shifted into a range-bound action with weak bias for better part of the session.
A small positive candle was formed on the daily chart with gap down opening. Technically, this market action indicates a choppy movement or minor downward correction. Larger degree higher tops and bottoms is intact on the daily/weekly chart and the recent upmove could be in line with the formation of new higher top of the sequence.
The short-term trend of Nifty is choppy, but the underlying medium-term trend remains positive. Any further weakness from here could find support around 25000 levels before bouncing back from the lows. Immediate resistance is placed at 25500 levels.

Sensex | L&T wins grid infrastructure orders for its power transmission & distribution business
The Power Transmission & Distribution (PT&D) vertical of Larsen & Toubro has won grid infrastructure orders in Middle East.

Tata Capital made a modest debut on the stock market today, listing at around Rs 330 per share about 1.2% above its issue price of Rs 326. Despite being India’s largest IPO of 2025 and backed by the strong Tata Group brand, the listing was rather subdued compared to market expectations. The IPO had received decent investor participation, getting subscribed about 1.95 times overall, led by institutional demand.
Tata Capital, a leading NBFC, enjoys a diversified presence across retail and corporate lending, wealth management, and other financial services.
The company’s fundamentals remain sound with steady growth and strong parentage, but valuations were seen as fair, leaving limited room for listing-day excitement.
Going ahead, investors may consider booking partial profits near listing levels while holding some shares for the long term, as the company’s growth prospects remain attractive in India’s expanding financial services sector. A stop-loss around Rs 300 is advisable to protect downside risk in the near term.
