Abhinav Tiwari, Research Analyst at Bonanza
The Indian stock market closed lower today with the Sensex falling by 0.36% to 82,029.98 and the Nifty50 slipping 82 points or by 0.32% to 25,145. The market selling was led by PSU banks, metal, realty, and media stocks. The fall came due to pressure from weekly F&O expiry, renewed FII selling of about Rs 240 crore, and weak global cues amid rising US-China trade tensions. The rupee’s slide to 88.79 per dollar raised fears of capital outflows, while higher crude prices and mixed Q2 earnings further dampened sentiment.
Overall, it was a broad-based decline with major indices ending lower. LG Electronics India’s strong IPO debut (up over 50%) was a rare positive but couldn’t lift the overall tone. Bajaj Finance, Tata Steel and JSW Steel fell sharply, while Tech Mahindra and HCL Tech provided limited support. Market volatility rose, with India VIX up nearly 7%, which cooled down to ~2% by closing. SEBI also fined 5PaisaCapital for compliance lapses.
Going forward, markets may stay volatile due to inconsistent foreign flows, Q2 results and macroeconomic conditions. Tech Mahindra, ICICI Lombard, and Bank of Maharashtra results may give a clear trends regarding market expectations. Global tensions, rupee trends, and RBI policy signals will remain key. Overall, a cautious tone is expected amid ongoing macro uncertainty.
Nagaraj Shetti, Senior Technical Research Analyst at HDFC Securities
After showing a narrow range bound action on Monday, Nifty slipped into weakness amidst choppy movement on Tuesday and closed the day lower by 81 points. After opening with a positive note, the market was not able to sustain the early gains and started to show weakness from the highs in the early to mid-part of the session. A recovery attempt was seen towards the end and Nifty closed the day off the lows.
A long bear candle was formed on the daily chart with minor lower shadow. Tuesday's negative candle has engulfed the small positive candle of Tuesday. This is not a good indication and signals some more consolidation or minor weakness in the short term. Daily 10 and 20 period EMA has acted as a support for the market on Tuesday. The next lower supports to be watched around 25000-24900 levels.
Sudeep Shah, Head - Technical Research and Derivatives at SBI Securities.
On Tuesday, the benchmark Nifty index opened with a notable gap-up, reflecting initial optimism. However, the momentum quickly faded as selling pressure emerged at higher levels, leading to a sharp intraday decline of nearly 250 points. The index marked an intraday low of 25060 before staging a modest recovery in the second half of the session, eventually settling at 25145 — down 0.32% for the day.
Among the Nifty constituents, Max Healthcare and Tech Mahindra stood out as top gainers, while Dr. Reddy’s Laboratories and Bharat Electronics Ltd (BEL) led the losers’ pack. Sectoral performance was broadly negative, with Nifty PSU Bank, Nifty Consumer Durables, and Nifty Metal indices registering the steepest losses.
The broader market underperformed significantly compared to the frontline indices. The Nifty Midcap 100 index, after testing the upper trendline of a Symmetrical Triangle formation, witnessed a sharp reversal and concluded the session with a Bearish Engulfing candlestick pattern on the daily chart — a sign of potential trend reversal. Meanwhile, the Nifty Smallcap 100 index declined 0.89%, breaching both its 20-day and 50-day exponential moving averages, indicating weakening momentum.
Market breadth remained weak, with the Advance/Decline ratio skewed heavily in favour of decliners. Out of the Nifty 500 universe, only 110 stocks managed to close in the green, underscoring the broad-based selling pressure across sectors and market caps.
Nifty View
In the second half of Tuesday’s trading session, the Nifty index found support near its 20-day EMA, which helped arrest the sharp intraday decline. This support zone triggered a minor pullback, although the recovery lacked strength. On the daily chart, the index has formed a bearish candlestick with a noticeable lower shadow, indicating intraday buying interest but overall weakness in sentiment.
The RSI on the daily timeframe is currently quoting at 55.08 and continues to trend lower, reflecting waning momentum and a cautious undertone among market participants.
Going ahead, the support zone of 25040–25000 will be crucial for the index as it is the confluence of the 20-day EMA level and the 38.2% Fibonacci retracement level of its prior upward rally. A decisive break below the 25000 mark could open the gates for further downside towards 24870, which coincides with the 61.8% Fibonacci retracement level of the recent rally from 24587 to 25331.
On the upside, the immediate resistance is placed in the 25270–25300 zone. A sustained move above this hurdle will be essential for the bulls to regain control and attempt a reversal in the short term.
Bank Nifty View
The Bank Nifty index showed relative strength on Tuesday, outperforming the broader market and frontline indices. Despite the overall weakness, the banking benchmark managed to hold and formed a small-bodied bearish candlestick with a long lower shadow on the daily chart.
Technically, the index continues to trade above its crucial moving averages, indicating underlying resilience. The daily RSI remains in the bullish zone, suggesting that momentum is still intact and the index may attempt to stabilize or rebound in the near term.
Going ahead, the zone of 56800-56900 will act as a crucial hurdle for the index. Any sustainable move above the level of 56900 will lead to a sharp upside rally upto the 57500 level. While, on the downside, the zone of 56300-56200 will act as important support for the index.
Dilip Parmar – Senior Research Analyst, HDFC Securities
The Indian rupee closed near a record low, pressured by broad-based dollar strength and weaker regional currencies. Sentiment remains fragile amid US-China trade uncertainty and risk-averse moods.
However, the rupee has demonstrated resilience, consolidating in a narrow range over the past two weeks due to central bank intervention and foreign fund inflows. Near-term, spot USDINR finds support at 88.50 and faces resistance at 89.10.
Rupak De, Senior Technical Analyst at LKP Securities
The Nifty remained under the bears’ grip as call writers stayed strong at the 25,300 level in the morning, leading to a decline below 25,100. On the daily chart, a bearish engulfing pattern indicates growing pessimism among traders. Besides, a lower-bottom formation is visible on the daily timeframe.
The current setup points to short-term weakness, with immediate support placed at 25,000, while resistance is seen at 25,200–25,300.

Vinod Nair, Head of Research, Geojit Investments
Muted start to the ongoing Q2 results and weaker-than-expected inflation data raised concerns about slow demand, intensifying profit booking. Mid and small-cap stocks bore the brunt of the sell-off, underperforming large caps while sectoral losses were broad-based.
Volatility is expected in the short term; however, the market is in a safe zone on a medium-term basis, in anticipation of a rise in demand during the second half of FY26.

Tanvee Gupta Jain, Chief India Economist at UBS Securities
We expect the headline CPI to average 2.4%YoY in FY26, marginally below RBI's revised forecast of 2.6%YoY. As we have been highlighting in our note "Key macro themes and questions from investors", factors including (a) softening food inflation (favourable agricultural production on good monsoons), (b) low energy prices offsetting the spillover impact of weaker INR; (c) concerns over China's excess capacity offloading in Asia amidst US tariff uncertainty; and lastly d) the GST rate cut (effective from late September) would help in keeping inflation benign this year.

LG Electronics India is a leading player in the consumer durables and home appliances segment, offering a wide range of products including televisions, refrigerators, washing machines, air conditioners, and smart home solutions.
