Shrikant Chouhan, Head Equity Research, Kotak Securities:

Today, the benchmark indices witnessed selling pressure at higher levels. The Nifty ends 121 points lower, while the Sensex was down by 346 points. Among sectors, intraday buying was seen in selective Realty and Metal stocks, whereas the Defense index was the top loser, shedding nearly 2 percent.

Technically, after a muted open, the market experienced consistent selling pressure throughout the day at higher levels. It also formed a bearish candle on daily charts and is exhibiting a lower top formation on intraday charts, which is largely negative.

We are of the view that the intraday market outlook is weak; however, a fresh selloff is possible only after the dismissal of 25,300/83,000. Below these levels, the market could slip to 25,200/82,700. Further selling pressure may continue, potentially dragging the market down to 25,225/82,500.

On the upside, above 25,450/83,400, we could see a quick intraday rally toward 25,550–25,650/83,700–84,000.

July 10, 2025· 16:05 IST

Aditya Gaggar Director of Progressive Shares

Today's trade was dominated by bears. After a muted start, the market witnessed a one-sided move toward the south, ultimately ending the session at 25,355.25 with a notable loss of 120.85 points. Except for the Realty and Metal, all other sectors closed in negative territory, with IT and PSU Banking being the major laggards. The broader markets outperformed the Frontline Index, as the Midcap and Smallcap segments managed to restrict their corrections.

Over the past few sessions, the level of 25,400 had acted as a strong support; however, it was breached in today’s trade, though a confirmatory move is required.

If the downward momentum continues, the correction could extend further toward the 25,200 mark, while resistance is now seen lower at 25,520.

Earnings Watch | TCS Q1 net profit jumps 6% on-yr to Rs 12,760 crore

Tata Consultancy Services on Thursday announced its Q1 FY26 net profit rose 6 percent year-on-year to Rs 12,760 crore. The earnings surpassed Street expectations. A Bloomberg consensus poll of analysts pegged TCS‘ April-June net profit growth at a muted 1.9% to Rs 12,263 crore.

India’s largest IT company also said its revenue grew 2.4 percent to Rs 65,097 crore for the April-June quarter. That was also higher than the Bloomberg consensus estimate of Rs 64,636 crore.

Vinod Nair, Head of Research, Geojit Investments

Indian equities concluded the day in the red, weighed down by weakness in IT stocks ahead of TCS’s Q1 results. Investor sentiment remains cautious ahead of the Q1 results in anticipation of a muted start to the season from the IT and finance sectors.

However, the recent consolidation in the IT stocks largely factors in the muted outlook, limiting further worries.

Meanwhile, mid- and small-caps had limited negative action, reflecting a wait-and-watch approach amid rising expectation of a better earnings outlook compared to large caps.

July 10, 2025· 15:57 IST

Ajit Mishra – SVP, Research, Religare Broking

Markets edged lower and lost nearly half a percent on the weekly expiry day. After a flat start, the Nifty gradually drifted lower as the session progressed and finally settled near the day’s low, around the 25,355.25 mark. On the sectoral front, profit booking in IT majors ahead of TCS results weighed on the index, followed closely by weakness in FMCG and pharma stocks. However, the realty and metal sectors bucked the trend and closed in the green. The broader indices also ended with modest losses, continuing their profit-taking phase.

Markets will react to TCS’s earnings in early trade, with a keen eye on management commentary, which could set the initial tone. With the Nifty now hovering near its immediate and crucial support zone—marked by the 20-day exponential moving average (20-DEMA) and the upper boundary of its previous consolidation range around the 25,200–25,300 zone—it will be critical for the index to hold this level to maintain its positive bias. That said, with the earnings season underway, stock-specific opportunities are likely to emerge on both sides, so participants should align their positions accordingly.

July 10, 2025· 15:55 IST

Vaibhav Vidwani, Research Analyst at Bonanza

Today, the Indian stock market closed in negative territory with the Nifty 50 index slipping by approximately 120 points, or 0.47%, to settle at 25,355. The market opened near 25,511 but faced selling pressure throughout the session, hitting a day low of 25,340.45 before closing lower than the previous day’s close of 25,476.10.

This decline marked a continuation of the cautious sentiment observed in recent sessions, as investors booked profits after a brief rally and remained wary ahead of the weekly derivatives expiry and key macroeconomic developments.

The negative closing was primarily driven by broad-based selling across sectors, with IT and PSU bank shares notably under pressure.

Despite positive signals from the US markets, the market’s upside remained capped by concerns over global uncertainties and the ongoing wait for clarity on the India-US mini trade deal, which is expected to influence market direction but has not yet triggered a breakout above the critical 25,500 resistance level.

July 10, 2025· 15:49 IST

Rupak De, Senior Technical Analyst at LKP Securities

Nifty slipped lower following a breakdown from the congestion zone on the daily chart, reinforcing the prevailing bearish sentiment. Additionally, the index has moved below the 21-hour exponential moving average.

The RSI (14) on the daily chart has also turned negative, indicating weakening momentum. In the short term, the trend is likely to remain weak, which could lead to further downside.

On the lower end, support is placed at 25,250–25,200, while on the higher end, resistance levels are seen at 25,400 and 25,500.

Rupee traded flat near 85.65, down by 0.07%, as mild strength in the dollar index and weakness in the capital markets weighed on sentiment. After yesterday’s strong rally, some profit booking was also observed. The rupee is expected to trade within a range of 85.30 to 85.90.

Vaibhav Vidwani, Research Analyst at Bonanza

IREDA’s asset quality and exposure in light of the ongoing Gensol developments. The recent insolvency proceedings against Gensol Engineering and its subsidiary, triggered by defaults totaling over Rs 700 crore have placed a spotlight on IREDA’s risk management and asset quality.

IREDA’s total exposure to Gensol Engineering and its subsidiary is approximately Rs 470 crore, including term loans and working capital facilities. While IREDA’s gross NPA ratio remains moderate at 2.45% as of March 31, 2025, the Gensol account is under stress and is being closely monitored. The account is not yet classified as an NPA, but the situation is evolving.

The top 20 group exposures constitute nearly 59% of IREDA’s loan book, reflecting a high degree of concentration risk. Any significant slippage, such as the Gensol account, could have a material impact on asset quality metrics.

IREDA has initiated an internal review of the Gensol account, in line with RBI guidelines, following revelations of fund diversion and document falsification by Gensol’s promoters.

IREDA’s loan book has expanded rapidly to Rs 76282 crore, with a 28% YoY growth in Q4FY25. This growth, combined with sectoral concentration, underscores the importance of vigilant asset quality monitoring, especially amid high-profile defaults.

Drumil Vithlani, Technical Research Analyst at Bonanza

The Nifty IT Index has been consolidating in a tight range for the past 20 trading sessions, following a breakout from an inverse head and shoulders pattern. The breakout level near 38,300 now acts as a crucial support zone.

From a stock-specific perspective, Tech Mahindra, HCL Technologies, and TCS are exhibiting weakness as they trade below their respective 50-day EMAs, indicating a negative bias. In contrast, Infosys and Wipro are showing relative strength within the sector.

Going ahead, if the IT index manages to sustain above the 39,000 mark, Infosys and Wipro could emerge as key outperformers and should be closely tracked for potential upside opportunities.

Deveya Gaglani, Senior Research Analyst - Commodities, Axis Securities

MCX Gold prices recovered from the weekly low of Rs 95,800 and ended flat in the last session as a pullback in the dollar index supported prices near the lower levels. The release of the FOMC minutes last night hinted at a possible rate cut in the second half of 2025, which increased the allure for the yellow metal.

Later today, U.S. Jobless Claims data may introduce volatility in bullion prices. Gold has been trading in a tight range between Rs 95,500 and Rs 97,500 in recent sessions, and consolidation is expected to continue within this band. However, a breakout above or a breakdown below this range could trigger a directional move.
