Nagaraj Shetti, Senior Technical Research Analyst at HDFC Securities

The upmove with range bound action continued in the market on Thursday and Nifty closed the day with modest gains of 30 points. After opening on a negative note, the market recovered initially but later shifted into a usual small range movement and that continued till the end.

A small positive candle was formed on the daily chart with minor upper shadow. Technically this action signals a range bound action in the market. Though, Nifty placed at the crucial hurdle of 25000 mark (down sloping trend line and previous two weeks highs) but not showing any strength to witness a decisive break out of the hurdle. The recent opening upside gap of 9th and 10th Sept remains unfilled.

The underlying trend of Nifty remains positive with choppy movement. Any failure to move sharply above the important resistance of 25000-25100 levels in the next 1-2 sessions could open short term weakness in the market. Immediate support is at 24800.

September 11, 2025· 16:10 IST

Ajit Mishra – SVP, Research, Religare Broking

Markets traded in a subdued manner on Thursday and ended marginally higher, taking a breather after the recent surge. After a positive start, the Nifty moved in a narrow range throughout the session and finally settled at 25,005.5 level. Sectoral performance was mixed, with energy and pharma emerging as top gainers, while IT and auto witnessed profit booking. Meanwhile, the broader indices remained largely flat, underperforming the large-cap space.

It appears that markets have absorbed the initial reaction to favorable developments such as GST reforms and optimism around US–India trade talks, and may now witness a brief pause. However, rotational buying across key sectors and early signs of a reversal in themes like defense and railways are likely to keep the undertone positive. Amid this backdrop, we continue to advocate a “buy on dips” strategy in the index and suggest focusing on accumulating quality names across sectors and themes that are moving in line with the benchmark.

Vaibhav Vidwani, Research Analyst at Bonanza

Today, the Sensex ending up 124 points at 81,548.73 (+0.15%) and the Nifty finishing 32 points higher at 25,005.5 (+0.13%), holding above the 25,000 mark. Both benchmark indices extended their winning streak, but the momentum was restricted, and broader market participation was muted as advancing and declining stocks were nearly equal.

After an optimistic start on the back of hopes for an improvement in US-India trade relations and sustained strength in domestic consumption-focused stocks, the market faced pressure from multiple fronts later in the session. The rupee dropped to a record low near 88.45 against the US dollar, underlining persistent external headwinds and concerns over tariff issues, which dampened risk appetite.

Moreover, consistent underperformance in IT stocks, combined with profit taking in auto and select large-cap shares, further weighed on overall sentiment. Sector-wise, energy, PSU banks, oil & gas, and media managed to gain between 0.5% - 1%, while the IT and auto sectors trailed behind. Additionally, the lack of decisive direction from global markets with US and Asian indices largely muted contributed to the market's sideways movement through the day.

While indices appear to have consolidated near record highs, medium term optimism is fueled by expectations of a potential US Fed rate cut, GST rationalization driven boosts to consumption, and strong domestic liquidity. However, with the rupee under pressure and volatility possible ahead of key inflation data releases, markets could see range bound moves in the near term.

Investors may continue to focus on sector rotation, with consumption, financials, and new economy segments leading structural growth, while monitoring global cues and currency trends for the next triggers.

Vinod Nair, Head of Research, Geojit Investments

The Nifty50 index has closed above the critical threshold of 25,000. The unexpected imposition of a 50% tariff on India by the US initially dragged the main index down to 24,400. However, the index has been steadily recovering from this decline. This resurgence can be attributed to several factors like expectation of limited impact on the domestic economy, the Indian government's robust strategic response to US long-term policies, and the announcement of significant domestic reforms, such as the GST, to mitigate trade-related repercussions.

Recently, positive signals from the US to reinitiate trade discussions with India have further paved the way for the index to ascend into a new range, which was highly expected by the market.

Jateen Trivedi, VP Research Analyst - Commodity and Currency, LKP Securities

Rupee traded weak by 0.35% at 88.40 as mixed FII flows and a firmer dollar index near 97 kept pressure intact. Focus remains on the US CPI data, which could drive volatility in the dollar and in turn the rupee. Crude prices stayed volatile but hovered in lower zones, offering partial support. Market sentiment remains tied to updates on the US–India trade deal, which could trigger sharper moves. For now, rupee can be seen trading within 87.85–88.10 as support and 88.55–88.70 as resistance.

Gold prices saw minor profit booking from highs of $3640 and Rs 1,09,000 as anticipation builds ahead of next week’s Fed policy, with uncertainty over a 0.25% or 0.50% rate cut. After a sharp 10% rally in the last 15 sessions, prices are showing exhaustion near $3650 and Rs 1,09,000. Key supports lie at Rs 1,05,000–Rs 1,06,500, while Rs 1,09,500 remains stiff resistance. Focus now shifts to today’s US CPI data (11 Sept), which will set the tone for near-term momentum.

The recent rally in Indian green energy stocks is driven by a combination of positive factors:

Favorable Government Policies: Investors are reacting to the government's sustained support for the sector, including the commitment to maintain capital expenditure, which ensures a strong pipeline of projects. New GST reforms, which lower taxes on renewable energy equipment, also reduce project costs and boost profitability.

Strong Company Performance: Several companies have recently announced robust financial results and secured significant new orders, signaling healthy business growth and execution.

Attractive Valuations: Following a period of correction, many green energy stocks are now trading at more reasonable valuations, making them an attractive investment for those looking to capitalize on India's long-term clean energy transition.
