Dilip Parmar – Senior Research Analyst, HDFC Securities
The Indian Rupee registered its second consecutive day of depreciation, primarily attributable to the Reserve Bank of India's decision to reduce the benchmark interest rate and introduce accompanying liquidity measures, both of which exerted downward pressure on the currency. This policy easing, combined with prevailing risk-averse market sentiment and continued foreign fund outflows, further contributed to the rupee weakness.
From a technical perspective, the spot USDINR is expected to encounter near-term resistance at the 90.40 level, with critical support established at 89.70.

The Nifty halted its two-day winning streak with a strong bearish candle on the daily chart. It slipped below the short-term 21-DMA around 26,000, which now becomes the immediate resistance zone.
A sell signal on the MACD and a bearish divergence on the RSI further reinforce the cautious tone. Overall, the setup points to a consolidation phase, with the index likely to oscillate within the broader 25,800–26,200 range in the near term.
The drop was also accompanied by a sharp 7% rise in INDIA VIX to 11, signalling heightened uncertainty.

Abhinav Tiwari, Research Analyst at Bonanza
Benchmark indices cooled off after the strong post RBI rally and ended slightly lower on the day. The Sensex slipped around 0.71% to about 85,102, while the Nifty 50 closed at 25,960, breaking its two-day winning streak as investors booked profits at higher levels.
The main reason for the cautious mood was the upcoming US Federal Reserve meeting. The market expects the Fed to cut rates, but traders worry that its guidance on future cuts may be conservative. This led to lightening of positions in risk assets. With Currency depreciation has been weighing on markets massively, especially with the rupee breaching past the 90 levels against the US dollar and concerns around foreign flows also added to the pressure, resulting in broader selling across cyclicals and midcaps.
Liquidity is drying with massive funds locked up in the primary market. Stock-specific developments created additional volatility. Biocon fell around 2% after announcing the full integration of Biocon Biologics at a valuation of USD 5.5 billion, supported by a share-swap and a proposed Rs.4,500-crore QIP. While the move simplifies the business structure, fears of equity dilution and near-term pressure on the balance sheet kept the stock and the pharma sector subdued.
In the broader market, high-beta industrial stocks softened after HDFC Sky pointed out concerns in PG Electroplast’s financials, highlighting rising leverage and weak cash flows. Even though the company strongly denied these claims, the development increased investor caution toward leveraged small- and mid-cap names.
Banks however, outperformed. The sector continued to attract buying interest as investors expect lenders to benefit the most from the RBI’s recent 25 bps repo rate cut and liquidity-support measures. Better funding costs, strong balance sheets, and stable asset quality helped Bank Nifty remain firm even as the headline indices edged lower.

Ajit Mishra – SVP, Research, Religare Broking
Markets started the week on a weak note and lost nearly a percent, completely engulfing Friday’s gains. The Nifty remained under pressure from the start, with selling intensifying as the session progressed. A marginal recovery in the final minutes helped trim some losses, and the index eventually closed at 25,960.55. Sectorally, all indices ended in the red, with realty, metal, and energy witnessing the sharpest declines. The broader market was hit even harder, as the midcap index dropped around 2% and the smallcap index slipped nearly 2.6%.
Sentiment weakened primarily due to rising caution ahead of the upcoming Fed meeting, with investors worried about the possibility of a tighter global monetary stance and its spillover impact on emerging markets. The sustained weakness in the rupee and continued FII outflows further aggravated concerns around inflation and import-cost pressures, adding to the bearish tone.
From a technical standpoint, the retest of the crucial support zone near the 20-DEMA and the lower band of the rising channel around 25,900–25,950 has cast doubt on the strength of the recent recovery. Going ahead, the 25,800 level will act as the key make-or-break support; a breach below this zone may derail the recovery trend and push the index into a deeper consolidation, opening the way towards 25,500–25,650. On the upside, a sustained move above 26,200 would help ease pressure, but a broader conviction may still take time to build.
In the current environment, we continue to recommend a cautious, stock-specific approach — focusing on defensives, quality names, and fundamentally strong rate-sensitive sectors — while avoiding aggressive exposure in the smallcap space until cues turn more supportive.

Nifty slipped back after the monetary policy–day optimism, breaking below the 26,000 support. The index has now closed below the 21 EMA for the first time in many days, indicating a weakening trend. Supporting this view, the RSI has once again turned into a bearish crossover. Adding to the negative setup, Nifty registered its lowest closing in nine days, highlighting broader weakness, while India VIX also witnessed a spike.
The sentiment looks weak in the short term, with the index potentially sliding towards 25,730. On the higher side, resistance is placed at 26,000–26,100.

Rupee's downward spiral to breach the 90 per dollar mark coupled with persistent foreign fund outflows in the current month so far have precipitated volatility. Also, with the US Fed meeting on interest rates scheduled later this week, investors may not be in a hurry to take positive bets on equity assets.

Sudeep Shah, Head - Technical and Derivatives Research at SBI Securities
Nifty opened weak and drifted lower throughout the session, forming a sizeable bearish candle on the daily chart. The index closed below its 20 DEMA, after managing to close above the same in the previous three trading sessions, while a lower close (close below previous day’s low) signals fading bullish momentum. The breakdown highlights short-term weakness and raises the risk of further corrective moves.
Bank Nifty broke its upward-sloping trendline, accompanied by RSI bearish divergence on lower timeframe (5 min), triggering a decline on an Intraday basis. However, unlike Nifty, the index witnessed buying interest near its 20 DEMA and managed to close above it, keeping near-term structure relatively stable despite emerging pressure.
On the sectoral front, none of the sectors ended in green. Nifty India Defence was the top sectoral loser, losing 3.68%, followed by Nifty Realty, which continued its underperformance, closing 3.53% lower. With regards to stocks, TechM and Wipro managed to end the day in green with Nifty IT continuing to show relative outperformance vis-à-vis other sectors. Indigo & BEL emerged as the top two losers.
The Midcap index, which had been holding steady, finally cracked with a decline of 1.8%. More importantly, the ratio line in the Midcap 100/Nifty ratio chart broke below the upward sloping trendline, indicating potential underperformance in the midcap space ahead and signalling a shift in market preference toward large caps.
The Small Cap index saw sharp selling pressure, closing 2.61% lower, its biggest single-day fall since 26th September, 2025. The intensified decline reflects weakening risk appetite in the broader market, signaling caution as the index continues to underperform and shows vulnerability to further downside.
The market breadth deteriorated significantly, with the advance-decline ratio heavily skewed in the favor of bears as a total of 461 stocks out of the Nifty 500 universe ended in red, indicating broad based selling.
Nifty View
Looking at key levels, the zone of 25,850–25,800 zone, which coincides with the previous swing low is likely to act as an important support zone for the Index. Any sustained move below 25,800 could lead to Nifty drifting further down, potentially taking it lower towards 25,650 followed by 25,500. On the upside, the zone of 26,150-26,200 is likely to act as a strong resistance for the Index.
Bank Nifty View
Looking at key levels, the zone of 59,000–58,900 zone, which coincides with the previous swing low is likely to act as an important support zone for the Index. Any sustained move below 58,900 could lead to Index breaking its 20-day EMA and moving down, potentially taking it lower towards 58,700 followed by 58,500. On the upside, the zone of 59,400-59,500 is likely to act as a strong resistance for the index.

Vinod Nair, Head of Research, Geojit Investments
The market experienced a broad-based decline, slipping below the 26,000 mark as investors turned cautious ahead of this week’s FED policy decision. Despite robust domestic growth figures and the RBI’s recent rate cut, short-term sentiment remains overshadowed by global monetary policy concerns, persistent FII outflows, and currency depreciation. Volatility was further amplified by a surge in Japanese bond yields to multi-year highs, sparking fears of a potential unwinding of the yen carry trade.
