Nagaraj Shetti, Senior Technical Research Analyst at HDFC Securities

After showing weakness with high volatility in the last couple of sessions, Nifty witnessed an excellent upside breakout on Thursday and closed the day with hefty gains of 395 points. After opening with a slightly positive note, the market slipped into intraday weakness with volatility in the early -mid part of the session. A decisive upside bounce has occurred in the mid part and Nifty sustained the gains towards the end.

A long bull candle was formed on the daily chart that signal a sharp upside breakout in the market after a consolidation movement. Back-to-back long bull candle formations in the last four sessions, with minor weakness in between, indicate bulls are back in charge.

The huge opening upside gap of 12th May remains open after four sessions of its formation and this gap could be considered as a bullish breakaway gap. The overall trend of Nifty continues to be positive and the next upside levels to be watched around 25250 and 25500 in the near term. Immediate support is placed at 24800.

Ajit Mishra – SVP, Research, Religare Broking

The markets regained momentum after a marginal dip, ending the day with gains of nearly one and a half percent. Following a flat start, the Nifty witnessed sharp fluctuations in the first half; however, a decisive surge in heavyweight stocks across sectors drove strong momentum as the session progressed. As a result, the Nifty closed at 25,062.10, after touching an intraday high of 25,116.25.

All major sectors contributed to the rally, with realty, auto, and metals emerging as the top gainers. The broader indices also moved higher, gaining over half a percent each.

The recent surge in the Nifty index has reinforced our positive outlook. A decisive breakout above the 25,200 level could potentially take the index towards the 25,400+ zone. We continue to advocate a “buy on dips” strategy, with a strong emphasis on selective stock picking, especially in light of overbought conditions in certain segments.

Prashanth Tapse, Senior VP (Research), Mehta Equities

While benchmark indices gyrated sharply in early trades, it quickly regained the lost momentum and rallied sharply thereafter on all-around buying support despite pessimism in European and other Asian bourses. Benchmark Nifty closing above the 25,000 mark will be a huge boost for traders. With Indo-Pak tensions on the mend currently, and hopes of a favourable tariff policy between the US and the two Asian giants (India & China) expected in the near term, equity markets could see some traction, although bouts of intra-day volatility risk remains high.

May 15, 2025· 16:03 IST

Vinod Nair, Head of Research, Geojit Investments

The market staged a robust rebound, closing with substantial gains, driven by a decline in domestic inflation and positive signals from the U.S. regarding a potential trade agreement with India. The benchmark index outperformed the broader market, buoyed by growing optimism around reduced operational costs and a potentially more accommodative monetary policy stance. Rate-sensitive sectors such as automobiles and real estate led the rally, supported by upbeat industry forecasts. Investor attention is now turning to the upcoming speech by the Federal Reserve Chair, which is anticipated to provide further clarity on the future policy trajectory, particularly in light of the recent easing in U.S. inflation data.

Vaibhav Vidwani, Research Analyst at Bonanza

Today, the Indian stock market closed strongly with the Nifty 50 reclaiming the 25,000 mark, registering a gain of 1.6% (up 395 points) and the Sensex rising 1,200 points (1.48%) to close at 82,530.74. This marked the highest level for Nifty in nearly seven months. The market rally was largely driven by optimism following US President Donald Trump's announcement that India had offered a deal to remove tariffs on US goods, raising hopes of a zero-tariff trade agreement between the two countries. This development significantly boosted investor sentiment, especially in financials, autos, and IT sectors.

Key sectors like Nifty Defense led gains, while PSU banks lagged. Additionally, lower crude oil and gold prices, strong foreign institutional investor inflows, a weakening US dollar, and cooling inflation data supporting potential RBI rate cuts further fueled the upside momentum. Market capitalization surged by Rs 5 lakh crore, reflecting robust buying interest.

Aditya Gaggar Director of Progressive Shares

On the weekly expiry day, the market witnessed significant volatility marked by sharp swings on either sides. Following a subdued opening, Nifty50 initially declined but soon recovered; however, it struggled to sustain the gains and faced another round of selling pressure. Mid-session saw a sudden surge in heavyweight stocks, which pushed the Index beyond the psychological mark of 25,000. By the end of the day, Nifty50 closed the trade at 25,062.10 with gains of 395.20 points.

All sectors ended in the green, with Auto and Realty emerging as the top performers. The rally was largely driven by Index-heavyweight stocks, resulting in underperformance from the Midcap and Smallcap segments.

Technically, the Index formed a strong bullish candle and decisively breached its immediate resistance of 24,930, which now turns into a key support level. On the upside, the next resistance is seen near 25,200.

May 15, 2025· 15:48 IST

Rupak De, Senior Technical Analyst at LKP Securities

The recent consolidation breakout, along with a move above the swing high, has increased the probability of the index reaching 25,690 in the short term. Immediate resistance is placed at 25,360, above which further upside potential may be unlocked.

On the downside, 24,400 is expected to act as strong support in the short to medium term. A decisive break below this level could cause the ongoing rally to lose momentum. Until then, a buy-on-dips strategy is likely to remain effective.

Anuj Choudhary – Research Analyst at Mirae Asset Sharekhan, for your reference.

Indian Rupee declined today on demand for dollars from importers and FII selling. However, surge in the domestic markets and overnight weakness in crude oil prices cushioned the downside. Weak US Dollar index too supported the domestic currency at lower levels.

We expect Rupee to trade with a positive bias amid positive domestic markets and rise in risk appetite in global markets. Easing geopolitical tensions between India and Pakistan and easing trade tariff tensions between US and China may also support the rupee. traders may take cues from PPI, retail sales, Empire State manufacturing index, industrial production and weekly unemployment claims data from the US. USDINR spot price is expected to trade in a range of Rs 85.20 to Rs 85.90.

Gold prices are likely to see extended corrective move as key chart supports are breached at USD 3190 in the international spot and Rs 92000 on MCX.

Prices decline remains supported by easing geo-political risk premium in the global market. Now, in the session ahead focus will be on Russia-Ukraine peace talks, US data in retail sales, producer inflation, jobless claims and Fed chairman's speech.

On the charts, prices are likely to see resistance at USD 3195/ 3210, and downside support at USD 3120/3070. On MCX resistance is seen at Rs 92,350/ 92,600, and downside support at Rs 90,500/ Rs. 89,700.
