Ajit Mishra – SVP, Research, Religare Broking
Markets traded with a cautious bias and ended flat, extending the ongoing consolidation phase. After a muted start, the Nifty attempted a recovery during the first half of the session but failed to sustain higher levels and gradually drifted lower as the day progressed, eventually settling at 25,815.55. Sectoral trends remained mixed, with selling pressure evident in energy, auto and pharma, while IT showed strength and financials and metals witnessed selective participation. The broader markets also remained volatile but managed to close on a flat note, reflecting selective market participation.
Sentiment continued to be influenced by global cues and currency-related concerns, which kept traders cautious. While intermittent buying was seen in select index heavyweights on a rotational basis, it was insufficient to drive a decisive directional move. Overall activity remained stock-specific, with participants preferring selective opportunities over broad-based exposure.
From a technical perspective, the Nifty has managed to hold the crucial support near the previous swing low around 25,700, which remains a key level to monitor in the coming session, as a breakdown could lead to further correction. On the upside, the short-term moving average, the 20-DEMA, continues to act as an immediate hurdle around 25,950, and a sustained move above this level will be essential for the next leg of the up move. Given the prevailing choppiness and absence of strong triggers, stock-specific trading approach remains advisable, with an emphasis on disciplined risk management and controlled position sizing.

Vinod Nair, Head of Research, Geojit Investments
Domestic equities navigated a volatile session amid subdued global cues, with large-cap stocks lagging behind mid- and small-cap counterparts. After three consecutive declines, early gains were supported by value buying and a rupee recovery aided by central bank intervention. However, lingering uncertainty over a potential U.S.–India trade deal dampened sentiment, prompting profit-booking later in the day. Sector-wise, IT and financial services attracted investor interest, while auto, oil & gas, chemicals, and pharma witnessed notable weakness. Looking ahead, markets will focus on U.S. core inflation and jobless claims data, alongside interest rate decisions from the BoE, ECB, and Bank of Japan, for clearer directional cues.

Nilesh Jain, Head – Technical and Derivatives Research Analyst (Equity Research), Centrum Broking
The markets stayed under pressure for the fourth straight session, with the Nifty continuing to form lower highs and lower lows on the daily chart. It closed marginally below its 50-day moving average, placed around 25,820, which is expected to act as an immediate resistance, followed by the 26,000 level. Overall market breadth showed slight improvement, as the broader indices outperformed the benchmarks.
Given the recent correction and the Nifty testing its key support near 25,700, there is a possibility of a pullback. On the upside, a sustained move above the short-term 21-day moving average at 26,000 would be critical to initiate such a recovery.

Abhinav Tiwari, Research Analyst at Bonanza
Today, both Sensex and Nifty 50 moved in a narrow band throughout the session, with the Sensex closing at 84,475 and the Nifty at 25,815. Gains in a few select sectors were offset by selling in auto, pharma, and healthcare stocks, keeping the broader market range-bound.
Market sentiment remained subdued due to uncertainty around the US-India trade agreement, which is still awaiting clarity. This continued to limit risk taking by investors. Some support came from the Indian rupee recovering from recent lows and Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs) turning net buyers after 14 straight sessions of selling.
Shares of asset management companies outperformed the market. The Nifty Capital Markets index rose over 2%, led by Canara Robeco AMC, which jumped 8.5%. HDFC AMC and Nippon Life AMC also gained between 4.5% and 6%. The rally followed SEBI’s approval of revised mutual fund fee rules, which were seen as more favourable than earlier proposals. Brokerage caps for cash market transactions were reduced to 6 basis points, and a clearer Base Expense Ratio framework was introduced, easing concerns around costs and profitability.
Ola Electric remained in focus after founder Bhavish Aggarwal sold 2.6 crore shares through bulk deals to repay promoter-level debt, removing all pledged shares. Separately, India and Oman signed a Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement, expected to boost bilateral trade by nearly $1 billion and strengthen India’s presence in the Gulf region.

Sudeep Shah, Head - Technical and Derivatives Research at SBI Securities
The benchmark index Nifty experienced sharp intraday volatility on Thursday. In the first half of the session, the index climbed to an intraday high of 25902, but the momentum fizzled out as selling pressure emerged in the latter half, dragging the index lower. By the close, Nifty settled at 28815 with a marginal decline of 0.01%, forming a small bodied candle with a long upper shadow on the daily chart, signalling hesitation at higher levels. Notably, over the past two sessions, the index has been oscillating around its 50 day EMA, underscoring indecision, while the daily RSI continues to remain in a sideways zone, indicating a lack of strong directional momentum.
Within the Nifty constituents, Indigo and TCS emerged as the top gainers, showcasing relative strength despite market choppiness. On the other hand, Sun Pharma and Tata Steel were the notable laggards of the day. From a sectoral standpoint, Nifty IT and Nifty Consumer Durables managed to outperform, closing with healthy gains, whereas Nifty Media and Nifty Auto ended on a weak note, reflecting mixed undertones across sectors.
In the broader market, both Nifty Midcap 100 and Nifty Smallcap 100 staged a smart recovery from the day’s lows and managed to close in the green. Both indices also formed small bodied candles with long lower shadows, indicating buying interest at lower levels. However, market breadth remained skewed to the negative, with the Advance/Decline ratio favouring decliners. In the Nifty 500 universe, as many as 299 stocks ended in negative territory, highlighting persistent caution across the broader market landscape.
Nifty View
Going ahead, for Nifty, the zone of 25750-25700 will act as important support. If the index slips below the 25700 level, it could trigger a further correction upto the 25550 level. On the upside, the 20-day EMA zone of 25930-25950 will act as a crucial hurdle for the index. Any sustainable move above the 25950 will lead to an upside rally upto the 26100 level.
Bank Nifty View
The banking benchmark index, Bank Nifty, also experienced heightened volatility on Thursday. In the early part of the session, the index managed to surge above its 20 day EMA, indicating an initial attempt by buyers to regain control. However, this strength proved short lived as selling pressure resurfaced at higher levels, pulling the index back down sharply. By the close, Bank Nifty ended flat, forming a small bodied candle with a long upper shadow on the daily chart, highlighting the market’s inability to sustain gains and the presence of strong supply zones at higher levels.
Going ahead, 58700-58600 will act as important support for the index as the prior swing low is placed in that region. Any sustainable move below the 58600 will lead to further correction upto the 58000 level in the short term. While on the upside, the zone of 59200-59300 will act as an important hurdle for the index.

Rupak De, Senior Technical Analyst at LKP Securities
The Nifty remains weak as the index failed to reclaim the 200-DMA on the hourly chart, with bears continuing to drag Indian equities lower. The formation of continuous lower tops further reinforces the bearish outlook.
The momentum indicator RSI is in a bearish crossover and is also forming lower tops, indicating weakening momentum.
The trend continues to remain weak, with the 25,700 level appearing vulnerable to a breakdown. A decisive breach below 25,700 could trigger a swift next leg of correction. On the upside, resistance is placed around 25,900.

Ravi Singh, Chief Research Officer from Master Capital Services
The clearance of 100% FDI in the insurance sector is an important step, but its impact on insurance stocks will play out gradually rather than instantly. Allowing full foreign ownership removes a long-standing restriction and makes India more attractive for global insurers looking to expand in a high-growth market. Over time, this can bring in fresh capital, better product innovation, and improved operational practices.
From a stock market perspective, this opens the door for selective rerating, especially for companies that already have strong brands, distribution strength, and clean balance sheets. Increased competition is inevitable, which may put some pressure on margins in the short term. However, India’s insurance penetration is still low, so a larger and more competitive market can support growth for multiple players.
Overall, the reform is structurally positive. While immediate price reactions may be muted, the long-term outlook for insurance stocks improves as foreign capital, expertise, and confidence in the sector steadily increase.

Aditya Agrawal, CFA , Chief Investment Officer at Avisa Wealth Creators
We believe the comprehensive mutual fund fee overhaul is a progressive step that reinforces investor-first approach and will lower costs, enhance transparency around charges, and ultimately improve net long-term returns for mutual fund investors.
SEBI has eased IPO norms through a digital-first disclosure regime and simplified lock-in rules. Lengthy draft documents are replaced with a concise Abridged Prospectus, available upfront via QR codes, aiding quicker retail decisions. Lock-in compliance for pledged non-promoter shares is also simplified by marking them non-transferable, reducing delays and easing IPO execution. Overall, these reforms reduce compliance friction, improve accessibility and help investors focus on key information
