Closing Bell: Nifty near 26,200, Sensex up 446 pts; RIL, Eicher Motors, Bajaj twins top gainers

Indian equity indices ended on strong note with Nifty around 26,200 on November 20. At close, the Sensex was up 446.21 points or 0.52 percent at 85,632.68, and the Nifty was up 139.50 points or 0.54 percent at 26,192.15.

Markets traded firm and gained nearly half a percent, resuming their upward trajectory after a brief consolidation phase. After a positive opening, the Nifty built on early momentum—supported by sustained strength in heavyweights—and touched an intraday high of 26,246.65 before trimming some gains to close at 26,192.15. Sectorally, financials, energy and auto led the advance, while PSU banks and media indices lagged. The broader markets underperformed the benchmark, ending largely flat and indicating selective participation.

Investor sentiment remained upbeat, supported by renewed FII inflows and positive cues from Asian markets after Nvidia issued strong earnings guidance. The commentary helped ease concerns of an AI-driven bubble, addressing some of the broader worries that had recently pressured global technology stocks.

With rotational buying visible across major heavyweights, we expect the ongoing uptrend to remain intact, with the Nifty poised to attempt a fresh record high soon and then inch towards 26,500 level. Immediate support is placed at 26,000, followed by a major support at 25,800. We continue to recommend a “buy-on-dips” approach, with a focus on largecap and quality midcap stocks demonstrating sustained relative strength.

Nifty witnessed sustainable breakout of crucial hurdle around 26100 levels on Thursday and closed higher. After opening with an upside gap, the market continued to move higher for better part of the session. There was a consolidation movement near the all time high of 26277 and Nifty closed near the highs. The opening upside gap remains partially filled.

A long bull candle was formed on the daily chart with minor upper shadow, which indicates that the Nifty is placed at the edge of moving into a new all-time high above 26277 levels, which is a swing high of 27th Sept 2024. This is positive indication.

The short-term trend of Nifty continues to be positive. A sustainable move into all-time highs could pull Nifty towards the next upside target of 26500 levels in the near term. Immediate support is placed at 26100.

On Thursday, the benchmark index Nifty continued its upward trajectory and registered its highest closing level since September 2024, reinforcing bullish sentiment in the market. On the daily chart, the index formed a strong bullish candle with shadows on both ends, signalling ongoing volatility but a clear positive bias.

The day’s rally was powered by heavyweight large-cap stocks, with Reliance Industries, HDFC Bank, and Axis Bank emerging as the key contributors to the surge. Their performance provided the much-needed thrust to keep the index firmly in the green.

Among sectoral indices, Nifty Financial Services and Nifty Oil & Gas led the charge, posting impressive gains. In contrast, Nifty Media and Nifty PSU Bank were the notable laggards, reflecting selective buying across sectors.

However, the broader market painted a different picture. Nifty Midcap 100 and Nifty Smallcap 100 significantly underperformed compared to frontline indices, highlighting a divergence in market participation. Adding to this cautious undertone, the Advance/Decline ratio tilted in favour of decliners, with 276 stocks from the Nifty 500 universe ending in the red, signalling lack of broad-based strength.

Nifty View

Going ahead, the index is expected to maintain its upward bias and could test 26350, followed by 26500 in the short term. On the downside, support has shifted higher to the 26050–26000 zone, which is likely to act as a cushion for any pullback.

Bank Nifty View

The banking benchmark index Bank Nifty continued its stellar run, marking yet another fresh all-time high on Thursday. Impressively, the index has hit new record highs in every trading session this week, underscoring strong bullish sentiment in the banking space.

From a technical perspective, the chart structure remains firmly positive, suggesting that the index is likely to extend its northward journey in the near term. Key upside targets are placed at 59700, followed by 60300 level.

On the downside, support levels have shifted higher, now positioned in the 59000–58900 zone, which is expected to act as a cushion against any short-term pullback.

The Indian equity markets commenced the trading session on a strong note, bolstered by positive global developments and the prevailing momentum within domestic markets from the previous session. The benchmark index exhibited robust momentum, achieving significant gains and registering record highs for the calendar year. Ultimately, the Nifty50 index concluded the day on an optimistic note, positioned just below its all-time high at the 26190 level, reflecting a gain of 0.54 percent for the day.

The substantial contribution of heavyweight counters like RIL and HDFC Bank has significantly influenced the ongoing market rally, fostering optimism among market participants. From a technical standpoint, the V-shaped recovery generated robust momentum, suggesting the prevailing trend to continue. Furthermore, with broader participation across the board, the near-term market outlook appears decisively bullish. On the levels front, the support base seems to have moved up to the 26100-26000 subzone, which is likely to cushion any near-term shortcomings, while the sacrosanct support is placed around the 25800 zone from a positional perspective.

On the higher end, with the recent closure, the lifetime high of 26277 is likely to act as psychological resistance, and a breakthrough could pave the way for 26500 in the near future.

As we progress, the prevailing sentiment remains strong, supporting the strategy of purchasing during market dips, which has historically demonstrated its effectiveness. Furthermore, given the current sectoral rotation, it is essential to exercise caution in stock selection while maintaining a bullish outlook on the markets.

Today, the Indian stock market ended on a strong note with both Sensex and Nifty surging to close near record highs. The Sensex finished around 446 points higher, while the Nifty settled near the important 26,200 level. This positive momentum was primarily driven by upbeat global cues after US chipmaker Nvidia posted better than expected results, which fueled a global rally in technology shares and improved investor sentiment across Asian markets, including India.

Market breadth remained positive, with significant buying witnessed in index heavyweights such as Eicher Motors, Bajaj Finserv, Bajaj Finance, Reliance, Tech Mahindra, and Adani Ports, which were the top gainers for the session.

On the news front, the Infosys buyback opening attracted attention, while the negative listing of the Fujiyama Power Systems IPO and further subscription in SME IPOs kept primary market activity volatile.

Looking forward, optimism continues as global investors anticipate favorable cues from both AI driven technology trends and upcoming US macroeconomic data that could impact risk sentiment. Market participants will closely track the ongoing foreign fund flows, performance of domestic corporate earnings, and progress in global trade discussions for further direction. There is growing expectation that large caps, especially in banks, IT, and energy, will continue to outperform. Upcoming domestic and international macroeconomic releases, including the delayed US jobs report, remain key triggers for near-term movement.

Indian equities rose on optimism around India–US trade talks and progress on phase-1 agreements, boosting overall market sentiment. Global cues also remained strong, led by tech-driven gains following solid earnings.

Fresh FII inflows and strength in large-cap sectors such as Auto, Financials, and IT supported the upbeat trend. The near-term outlook remains positive, though investors should stay cautious ahead of key U.S. economic data that may create short-term volatility.

Bank Nifty formed a small candlestick on Thursday’s session, with RSI rising to 74 on the daily chart, indicating the need for a short-term cautious stance. Fresh long positions should be considered only above 59,500 or on dips toward 58,800 for a favourable risk-reward setup, though the short-term and broader outlook remains bullish.

In derivatives, massive put writing was observed, strengthening support at 59,000 on an immediate basis and 58,800 on a positional basis, while resistance levels are placed at 59,500 and 60,000.

Indian rupee ended lower by 12 paise at 88.70 per dollar on Thursday versus previous close of 88.58.

On the sectoral front, auto, capital goods, oil & gas, private bank, energy up 0.2-0.6%, while consumer durable, media, PSU Bank down 0.3-1.5 percent.

Eicher Motors, Bajaj Finserv, Bajaj Finance, Reliance Industries, Tech Mahindra were among major gainers on the Nifty, while losers were Asian Paints, HCL Technologies, Titan Company, Apollo Hospitals and Tata Steel.

NMDC was quoting at Rs 74.70, down Rs 0.50, or 0.66 percent.

It has touched an intraday high of Rs 75.34 and an intraday low of Rs 73.94.

It was trading with volumes of 4,604,701 shares, compared to its five day average of 1,887,990 shares, an increase of 143.89 percent.

In the previous trading session, the share closed down 0.69 percent or Rs 0.52 at Rs 75.20.

The share touched a 52-week high of Rs 82.80 and a 52-week low of Rs 59.56 on 10 December, 2024 and 07 April, 2025, respectively.

However, the metal pared gains following the release of minutes from the Federal Reserve's latest meeting, as market participants turned their attention to upcoming economic data for further clues on the U.S. interest rate trajectory.

Traders are now focusing on non-farm payroll data that will be released today evening to take cues from FOMC regarding rate cut trajectory.

Strong support in the domestic market is placed around the 121000 level. Breakdown below it may drag prices lower towards 119000 level.

The company has received a tax demand notice worth Rs 365 crore from the Income Tax Department for Assessment Year 2018–19.

The final assessment order includes various disallowances and additions, resulting in a tax demand of Rs 365.37 crore.

The company is in the process of filing an appeal against these disallowances/additions.

Transrail Lighting has bagged new orders totalling Rs 548 crore, including a major International Transmission Line EPC project in new Country in MENA region.

With these additions, the company’s cumulative order inflows for FY26 have risen to more than Rs 4,285 crore.

Paramount Health Services & Insurance TPA, a material step-down wholly owned subsidiary of the company, has reported a cyber-security incident affecting some of its systems and services. The incident was restricted to Paramount TPA’s systems and services, and the company along with its other subsidiaries remain unaffected.

All affected infrastructure and systems have been restored, and business operations have resumed as usual. Relevant authorities have been notified, and the company’s management is closely monitoring the situation.
