Ajit Mishra – SVP, Research, Religare Broking
Markets remained volatile but managed to edge higher amid mixed cues. After an initial downtick, the Nifty drifted lower in early trade; however, buying interest in heavyweight stocks across sectors helped pare losses and eventually pushed the index into positive territory. As a result, the benchmark settled near the 25,418 level, up by 0.30 percent. Sectoral trends were mixed, keeping participants engaged, with metals, energy and banking stocks edging higher, while FMCG, pharma and IT names remained under pressure. The broader market took a breather after two sessions of rebound and ended largely unchanged.
Market sentiment stayed cautious as investors awaited key domestic events, including the Economic Survey and the upcoming Union Budget. Global uncertainty, mixed corporate earnings and continued foreign institutional selling weighed on risk appetite, while weakness in the Indian rupee added to the cautious undertone. That said, resilience in select heavyweight stocks helped limit the downside and enabled the index to sustain its recovery.
The Nifty continues to hover around the long-term moving average, the 200 DEMA, with the ongoing tussle reflecting indecision at these levels. Having crossed the immediate hurdle around 25,350, the index now appears poised to inch towards the 25,600 zone. Strength in the banking index is playing a key role in the rebound, with other sectors providing support on a rotational basis. However, participants should avoid getting carried away by the recovery and remain selective, focusing on performing sectors and themes while keeping position sizes in check amid lingering geopolitical uncertainty and the approaching Union Budget.

Abhinav Tiwari, Research Analyst at Bonanza
Today, the Indian stock markets recovered strongly, after a volatile start. The Sensex ended 221 points higher at 82,566, while the Nifty 50 closed above 25,400.
The recovery was driven by three key factors. First, the recently finalized India–EU FTA boosted market sentiment. Second, FIIs turned buyers after selling for 15 straight sessions, investing Rs. 480 crore in the cash market.
DIIs continued to provide strong support, with inflows of Rs. 3,360 crore, helping stabilize the market. Third, the Economic Survey 2025-26 reassured investors about India’s macro strength. It projected GDP growth of 7.4% in FY26 and 7.2% in FY27, highlighted low inflation, improved bank asset quality, and continued government capital spending to support growth.
Sector wise, metal stocks outperformed sharply, led by Hindustan Copper, supported by strong commodity prices and infrastructure demand expectations. In contrast, IT stocks declined, while FMCG and auto stocks saw mild profit booking. Looking ahead, markets may remain volatile until the Union Budget.

After initial weakness, the Nifty gained strength and closed higher. Overall, it maintained its position above the 50 EMA on the hourly chart. The RSI has remained in a positive crossover on the hourly timeframe.
With Friday being the last trading session ahead of the Budget, a relatively contained movement can be expected. On the higher end, 25,500 is likely to act as a crucial resistance. On the lower end, immediate support is placed at 25,200, below which a sharp decline may be seen in the market.

Sudeep Shah, Head - Technical and Derivatives Research at SBI Securities
On Thursday, the benchmark index Nifty witnessed a phase of early weakness, slipping into a corrective mode during the first hour of trade. However, the index found strong buying interest near its 200 day EMA. From this support zone, Nifty gradually recovered, forming a sequence of higher tops and higher bottoms throughout the session. Eventually, the index managed to close above the 25400 level, registering a modest gain of 0.30%. On the daily chart, Nifty has formed a small bodied bullish candle with a long lower shadow, highlighting the presence of dip buying interest and reinforcing the importance of the 200 day EMA as a reliable support zone.
Within the Nifty basket, Tata Steel and Larsen & Toubro (LT) emerged as the top performers, contributing significantly to the index’s recovery. In contrast, Asian Paints and SBI Life were the major laggards, dragging on overall sentiment. Sectorally, Nifty Metal and Nifty Private Bank indices outperformed. Meanwhile, Nifty Healthcare and Nifty FMCG ended as the top losers, indicating profit booking in defensives and consumption-oriented counters.
The broader markets also closed in positive territory, with both the Nifty Midcap 100 and Nifty Smallcap 100 indices extending their upward momentum. However, despite the gains in headline indices, the advance–decline ratio remained skewed in favour of decliners, signalling underlying breadth weakness. Out of the Nifty 500 universe, 313 stocks closed lower, suggesting that market strength was concentrated in select heavyweights rather than being broad-based.
Nifty View
Going ahead, the 20-day and 100-day EMA zone of 25550–25580 will act as the immediate hurdle for the index. Any sustainable move above 25580 will likely lead to an extension of the pullback rally up to 25700, followed by 25850 in the short term. On the downside, the 25300–25270 zone will act as an important support area for the index.
Bank Nifty View
The banking benchmark Bank Nifty extended its upward momentum for the third consecutive session, continuing to outperform the broader frontline indices. The index remains one of the strongest pockets in the market and is now just 0.80% away from its all-time high. The daily RSI, currently at 56, is trending higher, indicating improving momentum and room for further upside.
Looking ahead, the index is expected to continue its northward trajectory, supported by strong price structure and healthy momentum signals. Bank Nifty is likely to move towards 60500, followed by 61100 in the short term. On the downside, the 20 day EMA zone of 59500–59400 will act as a crucial support area for the index.

The Indian rupee has touched a record low, breaking 92 level, pressured by persistent capital outflows and the rising price of imported commodities. Despite a softening greenback, central bank interventions, and an improvement in risk sentiment, the rupee depreciated against a backdrop of deep-seated supply-demand imbalances of the dollar.
The trend favours a weaker Indian rupee until substantial inflows resume or a trade agreement with the US is reached. In the near term, spot USDINR faces resistance at 92.10 and finds support at 91.50.

Rajeev Sharan, Head – Criteria, Model Development & Research, Brickwork Ratings
The Economic Survey 2025-26 reaffirms India’s position as the fastest-growing major economy, with real GDP growth projected at 7.4% in FY26. Robust domestic demand, reflected in PFCE rising 7.5% in H1 and GFCF estimated at 30% of GDP, is complemented by supply-side strength in services and industry. Manufacturing rebounded to 8.4% in H1, aided by capacity utilisation above long-term averages and GST rationalisation boosting competitiveness. Headline CPI eased to 1.7% (Apr–Dec), with food disinflation supporting real incomes.
Fiscal discipline is evident, with capex scaled to 4% of GDP and revenue receipts buoyant at 9.1%, enabling a 7.1 percentage point reduction in the debt-to-GDP ratio since FY20. Banking NPAs at 2.2%, a multi-year low, are facilitating healthier credit growth. From a credit rating perspective, buoyant revenues, contained deficits, and robust forex reserves strengthen the case for a sovereign upgrade, reflecting improved debt sustainability and growth buffers amid EM peers’ strains.
The recently concluded India–EU FTA opens over 99% of the EU market within seven years, with 90% of goods moving to zero duty from day one, unlocking USD 33 billion of Indian exports immediately. Despite global trade fragmentation and agricultural volatility, reforms in skilling, deregulation, and digital infrastructure position India for 6.8–7.2% growth in FY27. Unlocking sustained 8%+ potential will hinge on labour reforms, higher R&D investment, and deeper integration into global value chains.

Domestic markets ended higher after staging a strong rebound, supported by an upbeat economic survey that reaffirmed a robust FY27 growth outlook and a well anchored inflation environment amidst persistent global uncertainties.
Global cues were largely constructive, though elevated bullion and crude prices due to escalating U.S.–Iran tensions weighed on overall risk sentiment. Sectorally, FMCG, IT, and Auto stocks underperformed, while Metals outperformed on expectations of stronger realizations driven by firm commodity prices.

Bank Nifty has decisively closed above its 20-day SMA, forming a strong bullish candlestick, which signals improving price structure. Momentum indicators are supportive, with RSI witnessing a bullish crossover, indicating a pickup in buying strength. The overall setup reflects renewed strength in the index; however, volatility may remain elevated ahead of the Union Budget announcement. Despite potential short-term swings, the undertone remains bullish. For the near term, Bank Nifty is expected to trade in a broad range with support at 59,000 and resistance at 60,400 levels.

The FY26 Economic Survey highlights India’s strong growth and macroeconomic stability despite rising global geopolitical and financial risks. It focuses on sustaining high growth through fiscal consolidation, contained inflation, and financial-sector resilience, while flagging external vulnerabilities arising from current account deficits and currency pressures.
The Survey emphasises the need for manufacturing-led exports, deeper integration into global value chains, and lower structural cost of capital to strengthen external resilience. It also stresses infrastructure expansion, deregulation, and enhanced state capacity—an “entrepreneurial state”—alongside priorities on skilling, employment, climate-resilient growth, and AI-led transformation to raise India’s potential growth to around 7%.

Akshat Garg, Head - Research & Product of Choice Wealth
The rupee opening at a record low of ₹91.99 against the US dollar reflects mounting external pressures rather than any domestic macro weakness. Persistent dollar strength, elevated US bond yields and continued foreign portfolio outflows have collectively kept emerging market currencies under stress, with the rupee being no exception. Month-end importer demand and precautionary hedging have further accentuated the move. While the RBI has the ammunition to smooth excessive volatility, it is unlikely to defend any specific level aggressively in the absence of disorderly market conditions.
From a medium-term perspective, India’s fundamentals remain relatively resilient, supported by stable growth and manageable inflation. However, near-term currency direction will continue to be guided by global cues — particularly the US rate trajectory, capital flow trends and geopolitical developments. Investors should view the current depreciation more as a phase of global realignment rather than a structural deterioration in India’s economic outlook.

Sandip Raichura, CEO of Retail Broking and Distribution & Director, PL Capital
Gold has crossed our earlier target of USD 5000 and we believe that this metal, unlike silver where there are risks are possibly now negatively biased , is on a structural bull run. While multiple geopolitical risks have magnified the move and may be subject to news based volatility, we believe the world has increasingly become fractured in the medium term and hence demand for valuable resources will do two things – push up commodity prices and push demand for gold as a strategic reserve for the credibility of regional currency blocs.
Assessing gold price movements based on the past may no longer work as we believe the world is witnessing a once in a century phenomenon and therefore gold could head much higher in the next 2 years, possibly crossing 8000 USD by 2027.
