Markets remained under pressure on Tuesday and traded sharply lower amid weak global cues. The Nifty opened in the red and extended losses through the session, slipping below the crucial 25,400 mark as selling intensified across key sectors. However, buying in select heavyweight stocks during the final hours trimmed some of the losses, and the index eventually settled at 25,424.68. Sectoral trends were mixed, with metal, energy and pharma ending higher, while selling pressure was visible in IT, realty and select financial counters. Broader markets also remained volatile and ended flat to marginally lower.
Investor sentiment weakened amid renewed concerns over global trade developments and rising geopolitical tensions, which kept crude oil prices elevated. Moreover, continued pressure on global technology stocks and fears of AI-led disruption further dragged domestic IT shares, amplifying the decline in the benchmark indices.
Technically, the Nifty has once again retested the crucial support near the 25,400 zone, and a decisive break below this level could trigger the next leg of the decline towards 25,245, which coincides with the 200 DEMA, followed by a major support area around 25,100, marked by a gap on the daily chart. On the upside, the 25,600–25,800 zone is likely to act as an immediate hurdle in case of any recovery. Amid the prevailing volatility and weak global cues, participants are advised to remain selective, keep position sizes light and focus on relatively stronger pockets of the market.

The Indian rupee retreated from its Monday peak, softening as risk-off sentiment and heightened month-end dollar requirements from importers. Local currency stability faces a significant hurdle as the Reserve Bank of India’s estimated $7 billion in non-deliverable forward (NDF) obligations mature this week, with additional settlements looming on the horizon.
Furthermore, the sharp appreciation in energy costs and bullion prices acts as a major drag on the rupee, given the nation's substantial import bill.
From a technical standpoint, the spot USD/INR pair faces resistance between 91.10 and 91.40, while immediate support is anticipated near 90.60, maintaining a near-term bias that favours dollar bulls.

On the monthly expiry day, Nifty opened with a sharp gap down below the previous day’s key support zone of 25630–25600 and extended its decline as the session progressed. The index slipped to an intraday low of 25328 before recovering part of the losses to close at 25425, down 1.12%. Notably, this marks the fifth instance this month where Nifty has ended with losses exceeding 1%. On the daily chart, the index has formed a sizeable bearish candle and once again slipped below its 20, 50 and 100-day EMAs, indicating sustained pressure.
On the sectoral front, Nifty Metal ended the day as a top sectoral gainer followed by Nifty Oil & Gas, On the other hand, Nifty IT broke below its major support zone of 31300-30900 on the daily chart and extended its fall further, ending the day as the top sectoral loser, followed by Nifty Realty. With regards to stocks, NTPC & Coal India emerged as the top stock gainers amongst the Nifty pack while Tech Mahindra & HCL Tech emerged as the top two losers.
Meanwhile, the Midcap and Small cap indices opened weak and extended their decline in early trade. However, strong buying interest at lower levels led to the formation of thin-bodied candles with noticeable lower wicks on the daily charts, indicating demand emerging on dips.
The market breadth was weak as the advance-decline ratio was heavily skewed in the favour of bears at day’s close. A total of 305 stocks out of the Nifty 500 universe ended in the red.
Nifty View
Going ahead, the immediate support for Nifty is placed in the 25370–25350 zone. Strong rebound was seen from this zone on the previous two occasions. Any sustainable move below this zone could result in Nifty filling the gap and extending its weakness towards 25150, followed by 24950 in the short term. On the upside, the zone of 25600–25650 zone is likely to act as an immediate resistance.
Bank Nifty View
Bank Nifty, however, started on a relatively cautious note and initially moved higher, bucking the weakness in Nifty. The index touched an intraday high of 61436, but profit booking at elevated levels dragged it down to 60802. Subsequent buying interest at lower levels helped the index recover some ground, ending the day at 61047, down 0.35%. On the daily chart, Bank Nifty has formed a small-bodied candle with a lower shadow, suggesting buying support at lower levels.
For Bank Nifty, the immediate resistance is placed in the 61400–61500 zone. Any sustainable move above this zone could result in Bank Nifty extending its up move towards 62000, followed by 62500 in the short term. On the downside, the zone of 60800–60700 zone is likely to act as an immediate support.

Abhinav Tiwari Research Analyst at Bonanza
Today, the Indian equity markets ended lower as heavy selling pressure across sectors, led by IT stocks, pulled down the benchmark indices. Despite a few positive stock specific developments, overall sentiment remained weak due to global risk off cues.
Both Sensex and Nifty saw sharp intraday declines, with the Nifty falling 288 points at its lowest level.
Selling was widespread, reflecting cautious investor mood. The biggest drag came from the IT sector, with the Nifty IT index declining over 4.5%. All major IT stocks traded in the red as global technology stocks weakened. Concerns around AI led disruption to traditional IT services and fresh tariff related uncertainty from the US raised worries over earnings visibility for Indian IT exporters. Heavyweights such as TCS, Infosys, HCLTech, Tech Mahindra and Mphasis contributed significantly to the index fall. Weak global cues, particularly from US markets correcting on tech and trade concerns, further hurt domestic risk appetite.
Larsen & Toubro remained in focus after announcing large order wins in its projects and hydrocarbons segments, supporting confidence in its strong order book, though broader market weakness limited upside. IDFC First Bank saw sentiment improve after confirmation that the full amount linked to a recent fraud, along with interest, had been recovered, easing near term concerns. Markets may remain volatile and headline driven in the near term, with IT stocks under pressure.

Vinod Nair, Head of Research, Geojit Investments
Domestic markets registered a sharp decline, led by significant weakness in IT stocks amid renewed global concerns over AI-driven disruption and margin pressures for traditional service providers.
Global trade and tariff worries resurfaced as well, with additional pressure arising from Trump’s warnings on trade deals and reports of possible national security tariffs.
Realty stocks also came under strain on expectations that prolonged stress in the IT sector could weigh on real estate demand and valuations.
Meanwhile, escalating U.S.–Iran tensions, marked by embassy staff evacuations and Iran’s warnings of wider regional escalation, intensified risk aversion.
Overall, markets remain highly sensitive to geopolitical risks and sector-specific pressures, driving investors toward defensive, domestically focused segments.

Vishnu Kant Upadhyay, AVP - Research Advisory, Master Capital Services
The Indian benchmark indices witnessed a sharp turmoil on Tuesday, with both Nifty50 and Sensex declining by more than 1.35%. The main reason for this correction was the continued weakness in IT stocks. The Nifty IT index extended its losses for the fifth consecutive session, slipping to a multi-month low and eroding nearly 21% so far this month. The recent decline has been largely driven by concerns over AI-led disruptions, particularly following the launch of Anthropic’s new Claude AI security tool, which has added to uncertainty around the sector’s earnings outlook.
Global cues also remained unsupportive. Fresh developments on U.S. tariffs, with a new 15% tariff rate coming into effect from February 24, further dampened investor sentiment and triggered risk-off trades across sectors. Sector-wise, IT and Realty emerged as the top laggards, falling nearly 5% and 3% respectively. On the other hand, Pharma, Healthcare, and Metal stocks managed to stay resilient, posting marginal gains of less than 0.5%. Notably, PSU Banks and Metals continued to display relative strength despite the broader market weakness. Overall market sentiment remains fragile. The 25,250 zone, which coincides with the 200-day EMA, will be a crucial level to monitor. A sustained hold near this support could trigger some short-covering bounce in the near term.

Gaurav Garg, Research Analyst at Lemonn Markets Desk
Gold and silver prices remained range-bound on February 24 as investors turned cautious after recent sharp moves. Gold saw mild profit-booking at higher levels, while silver traded sideways, reflecting uncertainty in global cues. Ongoing concerns around global trade, tariffs, and the direction of US interest rates kept sentiment mixed across bullion markets.
A firmer US dollar also limited upside, even as safe-haven demand stayed intact in pockets. Domestic prices continue to consolidate near recent highs, suggesting the market is taking a breather rather than reversing trend. Overall, precious metals appear to be in a pause-and-watch phase, with volatility likely to persist in the near term.

Santosh Meena, Head of Research at swastika investmart
Nifty is currently trading in a highly volatile zone between its 100-DMA (25,750) and 200-DMA (25,350), making this a crucial range for short-term direction.
If Nifty manages to sustain above the 200-DMA (25,350), we can expect a recovery move in the market. However, a decisive breakdown below the 200-DMA may increase the risk of a sharp decline towards 25,150 and 24,800 levels.
On the upside, a strong move and sustained trade above the 100-DMA (25,750) could trigger momentum towards 26,000 and 26,300 levels.
Traders should closely track these key levels amid ongoing uncertainties and heightened volatility.
