Closing Bell: Nifty above 25,000, Sensex gains 362 pts; IT, media, telecom shine

Indian equity indices ended on strong note with Nifty above 25,000 on September 10. At close, the Sensex was up 361.75 points or 0.44 percent at 81,921.29, and the Nifty was up 104.70 points or 0.42 percent at 25,041.10.

Nifty opened on a positive note and continued to inch higher to close on a positive note up ~105 points. On the daily charts we can observe that the Nifty has witnessed a recovery from the support cluster of the 24800 – 24850. On the upside it has now reached the zone of 25100 – 25150 where resistance in the form of 61.82% Fibonacci retracement level is placed. The divergent signal from the daily and hourly momentum indicators is also pointing towards a near-term consolidation. Thus, price and momentum indicator suggests a consolidation and the range is likely to be 24800 – 25200.

Bank Nifty too witnessed continuation of the pullback however is facing resistance in the zone 51400 – 51500. Thus, it shall be a crucial level to surpass from short term perspective. On the downside, 50900 – 50800 shall be a crucial support zone from short term perspective.

Markets stayed optimistic for major part of the trading session and Nifty closing above the psychological 25k mark shows that investors continue to be upbeat about the country's strong growth prospects despite global recessionary concerns. Sliding crude oil prices remains a worry as falling demand increases risks of global slowdown.

The market continued with follow through upmove on Tuesday amidst volatility and closed the day higher by 104 points. After opening with a positive note, the market showed knee jerk action soon after the opening. A sustainable upmove was seen in the afternoon, but minor selling pressure has occurred towards the end.

A small positive candle was formed on the daily chart with minor upper and lower shadows. Technically, this pattern indicates a formation of doji type candle pattern, which is not a classical one. Normally, such doji pattern at the hurdle indicates caution for bulls.

The short-term trend of Nifty seems to have reversed up and the Nifty is currently placed at the crucial resistance of 25200 levels. A decisive move above this hurdle could only open further upside towards the new all-time highs. Immediate support is at 24900.

Today, the benchmark indices witnessed promising rally, the Nifty ends 104 points higher while the Sensex was up by 344 points. Among Sectors, almost all the major sectoral indices registered buying interest at lower levels but Media Index outperformed rallied over 2.5 percent. Technically, after early morning intraday correction market took the support near 24900/81400 and reversed sharply.

Post reversal it witnessed a promising uptrend rally. However, it trimmed some gains from the day highest level of 25130.50/82196 but eventually managed closed above 25000/81800 mark, which is largely positive. We are of the view that, market completed one leg of pullback rally and now 25000/81800 would be the crucial support level for traders. Above 25000/81800, it could bounce back up to 25150-25175/82200-82500. However, Below 25000/81800 the market could retest the level of 24900/81500. Further down side may also continue which could drag the index till 24850/81300.

Nifty remained volatile throughout the day, unable to sustain levels above 25100. The RSI remained in a bearish crossover on the daily timeframe, indicating continued weakness. Sentiment is expected to stay weak in the near term unless Nifty manages a close above 25100. On the lower side, support is seen at 24900; if breached, the index may decline further towards 24750.

After a knee-jerk reaction in the opening trade, one-way up move was seen in the markets; however, towards the end of the trading session, the Index pared-off half of its gains to settle the trade at 25,041.10 with gains of 104.70 points. Barring PSU Banks, all the other sectors ended the day in green with Media and IT being the top performers.

With gains of over 1%, Mid and Smallcaps ended the streak of underperformance.

As indicated yesterday, the Index has tested the higher end of the resistance zone i.e. 25,100, a firm close above the same is a must to confirm a trend continuation while on the downside, a level of 24,850 will act as an immediate support.

Indian rupee ended lower at 83.97 per dollar on Tuesday versus Monday's close of 83.95.

At close, the Sensex was up 361.75 points or 0.44 percent at 81,921.29, and the Nifty was up 104.70 points or 0.42 percent at 25,041.10. About 2473 shares advanced, 1300 shares declined, and 98 shares unchanged.

Divis Labs, LTIMindtree, Bharti Airtel, Wipro and HCL Tech were among the major gainers on the Nifty, while losers were HDFC Life, SBI Life Insurance, Bajaj Finserv, Bajaj Finance, and Shriram Finance.

Except oil & gas, all other sectoral indices ended in the green with Telecom and Media up 2 percent each, while capital goods, IT, healthcare, power up 1 percent each.

BSE Midcap index was up 0.5 percent and Smallcap index gained 1.5 percent.

Indian Rupee traded with a negative bias today a positive US Dollar and US treasury yields. A slight recovery in crude oil prices also weighed on the Rupee. However, a surge in the domestic markets cushioned the downside. US Dollar recovered amid mixed non-farm payrolls data.

We expect Rupee to trade with a slight negative bias on strong US Dollar and concerns over global economic growth. However, positive domestic markets and any intervention by the RBI may support the Rupee at lower levels. Investors may remain cautious ahead of US CPI and ECB monetary policy this week. USDINR spot price is expected to trade in a range of Rs 83.70 to Rs 84.20.

Shares of the Indian Renewable Energy Development Agency Ltd. (IREDA) surged over 6 percent on September 10, a day after the company signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with SJVN Ltd., GMR Energy Ltd., and their associated companies for the development and implementation of the 900 MW Upper Karnali hydro-electric project in Nepal.

This collaboration aims to enhance regional energy security through the development of renewable energy infrastructure, the company said in a statement.
