Ajit Mishra – SVP, Research, Religare Broking

Markets began the week on a positive note and advanced nearly a percent, extending the rebound seen on Friday. Following a gap-up opening, the Nifty moved within a narrow range while holding firmly near the day’s highs and resumed its upward move in the final hour to close around the 26,172.4 level. Sectoral participation was broadly supportive, with buying interest seen across the board; IT, metals and auto emerged as the top gainers. The broader markets also moved in tandem, posting strong gains and indicating improved participation compared to recent sessions.

Sentiment was supported by favourable global cues and relative stability in the currency, which helped ease concerns around external pressures. A pause in aggressive foreign selling, along with rotational buying in select index heavyweights, contributed to the steady undertone. That said, overall activity remained selective, as participants stayed cautious in the absence of strong domestic triggers.

Looking ahead to the scheduled weekly expiry, the Nifty may face resistance in the 26,200–26,300 zone, which coincides with the record-high zone. However, the broader bias remains positive, and participants may look for buying opportunities on dips toward the 25,950–26,050 support zone. With sectoral participation occurring on a rotational basis, we continue to prefer stocks that are leading price action within their respective sectors, while avoiding laggards.

Rupak De, Senior Technical Analyst at LKP Securities

The Nifty continues to move higher following a falling wedge breakout, indicating improving bullish sentiment in the short term. The RSI has delivered a downward consolidation breakout on the daily timeframe, signaling strong positive momentum in the market.

The trend is likely to favor the bulls as long as the index remains above 25,900, making a buy-on-dips strategy favorable. On the higher end, 26,315 may act as immediate resistance, above which a further rally could unfold.

December 22, 2025· 16:03 IST

Nagaraj Shetti, Senior Technical Research Analyst at HDFC Securities

Nifty witnessed sharp breakout of consolidation movement on Monday and closed the day with hefty gains of 206 points. After opening with an upside gap of 90 points, Nifty surged up further soon after the opening. It later shifted into a range bound action with positive bias in the mid to later part of the session and the opening upside gap remains unfilled.

A long bull candle was formed on the daily chart with gap up opening. Technically, this market action indicates a decisive breakout of crucial hurdle and triangle pattern around 26000 levels. This is positive indication and this reflects market's significant change in trend on the upside. Next upside levels to be watched around 26300-26400 levels in the near-term. Immediate support is placed at 26000.

December 22, 2025· 15:57 IST

Sudeep Shah, Head - Technical and Derivatives Research at SBI Securities.

On Monday, the benchmark index Nifty started the session on a strong note with a notable upside gap. More importantly, the index has given a decisive breakout above the neckline of the Adam & Adam Double Bottom pattern. Riding on this breakout, Nifty extended its gains gradually throughout the day and eventually closed at 26,172, registering a healthy 0.79% rise. The price action also resulted in the formation of a sizeable bullish candle on the daily chart, reinforcing growing optimism at the current juncture.

From a trend perspective, Nifty continues to trade well above all its crucial moving averages, and these averages are gradually sloping upward, a clear indication of strengthening underlying momentum. The daily RSI is also on the verge of crossing above the 60 mark, a zone often associated with improving buying strength, highlighting that momentum is shifting in favour of the bulls.

Within the Nifty 50 pack, Shri Ram Finance, Trent, and Wipro emerged as the top gainers, contributing significantly to the index’s up-move. On the flip side, HDFC Life and SBI were among the key laggards for the day. Sectorally, the market breadth remained encouraging — barring Nifty Realty and Nifty Consumer Durables, all major sectoral indices ended in the green. Notably, Nifty IT, Nifty Chemicals, and Nifty Metal indices outperformed, reflecting broad-based strength.

The positive sentiment extended to the broader markets as well. Both Nifty Midcap 100 and Nifty Small Cap 100 closed firmly in the green, echoing renewed investor interest beyond frontline stocks. A particularly noteworthy development was the Nifty Small Cap 100 index closing above its 20 day EMA for the first time since November 18, 2025, hinting at a potential shift in short-term trend. Market breadth further strengthened this narrative, with the advance–decline ratio skewed decisively in favour of advancers. From the broader Nifty 500 universe, as many as 371 stocks ended on a positive note, showcasing the breadth and depth of Monday’s market rally.

Nifty View

Going ahead, the Nifty is likely to extend its northward journey in the next couple of trading sessions. As per the measure rule of the Double Bottom pattern, the upside target is placed at 26420 in the short term. While on the downside, the 20-day EMA zone of 26000-25950 will act as crucial support for the index.

Bank Nifty View

The banking benchmark index, Bank Nifty, ended on a positive note. However, it has underperformed the frontline indices on Monday.

Going ahead, the zone of 59500-59600 will act as a crucial hurdle for the index. Any sustainable move above 59600 will lead to a sharp upside rally upto the 60000, followed by the 60500 level in the short term. On the downside, the 20-day EMA zone of 59100-59000 will act as important support for the index.

Balaji Rao Mudili, Research Analyst at Bonanza

The Indian markets closed on a positive note today building on Friday's recovery from a four-day losing streak. Nifty closed at 26,172.40, up 206 pts (0.78%) while Sensex closed at 85,567.48, up 638.12 pts (0.75%). Sectoral gains were prominent in IT, Metals, Capital goods, and Financials while the laggards were Realty and Consumer Durable. Stock wise, in Nifty 50 the top gainers were Shriram Finance, Trent, Wipro and Infosys while SBI and Tata Consumers were the losers.

The major upcoming event which the market will be tracking now will be the US GDP data which is releasing tomorrow. Post the GDP data, it is expected to be a quite week and FII outflow can be expected till the end of the year due to the tax loss harvesting which can reduce the liquidity from the FIIs end leading to a cautious end to the year.

Following the US-Venezuela cue, there can be some global headwinds which can lead to further investments in bullions like gold and silver and due to this some weakness can be expected in equities.

December 22, 2025· 15:43 IST

Sensex Today | Ponmudi R, CEO of Enrich Money

Indian equity markets extended their rally, led by strong gains in IT, metals, and defence stocks, as investor sentiment improved on multiple supportive cues. A stabilising USD–INR exchange rate, coupled with data showing foreign portfolio investors turning net buyers of domestic equities over the past few sessions, triggered broad-based buying and short covering across derivative segments. Global risk appetite also remained firm, supported by expectations of further monetary policy easing by the US Federal Reserve, which helped sustain the risk-on momentum across global markets. Adding to the positive sentiment, India and New Zealand successfully concluded a free trade agreement, seen as a strategic positive as India seeks to diversify its export base amid the 50% tariffs imposed by the Trump administration.

Nifty 50 closed the session on a strong note after confirming a breakout above the 26,050–26,100 zone, validating a double-bottom pattern and reinforcing the ongoing daily uptrend. The early gap-up was followed by a healthy continuation from the recent rebound, signalling strength and sustained buying interest rather than distribution. As long as the index holds above the 25,950–26,000 support band, the broader structure remains bullish, with a decisive close above 26,200 opening the path toward 26,300–26,500.

Bank Nifty continued to outperform the broader market, closing near the day’s highs and reflecting steady demand across the banking space. The index remains comfortably above key short-term moving averages, with immediate support placed at 59,000–58,700. A sustained breakout above the 59,500 resistance zone could unlock a move toward the 60,000-60,500 mark, keeping the near-term bias positive.

December 22, 2025· 15:33 IST

Vinod Nair, Head of Research, Geojit Investments

Indian markets extended their year-end rally, supported by strong liquidity and global cues, as expectations of further Fed easing in 2026 continue to underpin growth. FIIs turned net buyers, reinforcing the positive tone, with IT and metals leading gains. Gold hit a record high, driven by rate-cut expectations, robust central bank buying, sustained ETF inflows, and heightened global tensions, including Ukraine’s strike on a Russian vessel. Investors now await the Q3 GDP estimate for policy clarity, with consensus pointing to resilient growth. However, caution persists amid limited progress on trade negotiations, geopolitical uncertainties, and crude price volatility.

Amruta Shinde, Research Analyst at Choice Broking

GROWW, currently trading at RS 168.35, is exhibiting a bullish reversal structure. The stock was listed in mid-November and subsequently rallied to a post-listing high of Rs 193.90, after which it underwent a healthy corrective phase. This correction found strong support near the 0.618 Fibonacci retracement level, where the stock consolidated for a period before staging a breakout. The breakout has been accompanied by a strong bullish candle, indicating renewed buying interest and a potential trend resumption.

A decisive close above the key resistance zone of Rs 175, supported by expanding volumes, would further validate the bullish setup and signal continuation of the upward move. The overall price action suggests an immediate upside potential toward Rs 200 in the near term. On the daily timeframe, the RSI stands at 66.41 and is trending higher, reflecting sustained positive momentum without entering overbought territory. Additionally, the stock is trading above its 20-day exponential moving average, reinforcing the prevailing positive bias and improving sentiment.

From a trading perspective, participants may consider accumulating the stock on minor pullbacks in the Rs 162 to Rs 153 range, which aligns with the 20-day EMA support zone. A short-term target of Rs 200 can be maintained, while a stop-loss should be placed below Rs 152 to manage downside risk.

Bullion climbed more than 1.5% to surpass the previous record of $4,381 an ounce set in October. Traders are betting the Federal Reserve will cut interest rates twice in 2026 after a slew of economic data last week, while US President Donald Trump has also advocated for looser monetary policy. Lower rates are typically a tailwind for precious metals, which don’t pay interest.

Pranav Haridasan, MD and CEO, Axis Securities

2025 wasn’t an easy year for Indian capital markets. Performance lagged, global peers raced ahead, and investors were reminded that even strong stories go through uncomfortable phases. But it was also a year that quietly strengthened the system — growth held up, inflation eased, external balances were manageable and domestic savings kept faith with markets.

Below the headline numbers, the market structure actually got stronger. Primary markets stayed active, the listed universe widened, domestic institutions held steady, retail participation didn’t fade, and technology-driven investing became more mainstream. In many ways, the market became broader, deeper and a little more mature.

As we step into 2026, the outlook is constructive, but with both feet on the ground. India’s growth engine, policy continuity, capex momentum and earnings visibility provide comfort. At the same time, geopolitics, slower global growth, potential unwinds in crowded trades like the AI risk trade, and shifting global yield dynamics — including developments in Japan — mean volatility will stay part of the journey.

So 2026 begins with a simple reality: India remains one of the most compelling long-term stories, but this is a market that now demands discipline, diversification and respect for global risk. A challenging 2025 may well have set the stage for a steadier and potentially mean-reverting year ahead.
