VK Vijayakumar, Chief Investment Strategist, Geojit Investments

October marked a reversal of the sustained selling by FIIs seen in the previous three months. For October  FIIs bought equity for Rs 3902 crores through the exchanges.

However, this figure includes some bulk deals too. The trend of sustained buying/ investing through the primary continued in October too with a buy figure of Rs 10707 crores.

The red hot IPO market and the high premium investors are willing to pay for new issues are encouraging FIIs to invest through the primary market.

For 2025, so far, total FII investment through the primary market stands at Rs 54292 crores. This is in sharp contrast to the total sell figure through exchanges till the end of October at Rs 194201 crores. ( Source: NSDL)

The aggregate buy figure through the exchanges in October doesn’t mean that the FIIs will continue to be in buy mode, going forward. The relatively higher valuations in India may prompt FIIs to sell again. Whether FIIs will buy or sell will depend on the trajectory of India’s corporate sector’s earnings growth.

There are clear signs of earnings recovery now. If the brisk demand conditions in the market sustains, earnings will improve, which, in turn, will make valuations fair. In such a scenario FIIs will turn buyers.

Prashanth Tapse, Senior VP (Research), Mehta Equities

Despite the IPO being a 100% Offer for Sale (OFS), the issue witnessed subscription demand above street expectations, reflecting strong investor interest.

While considering the current muted market sentiment, listing was very much flat on the issue price. Decent flat listing give away a great opportunity for long term investors  as we continue to believes that Orkla India, a market-leading packaged food and spices company backed by iconic brands such as MTR and Eastern, presents a compelling long-term structural growth story. The strong response to the issue underscores confidence in the company’s fundamentals and its ability to capitalize on the growing demand for convenience foods across key geographies.

So allotted investors are advised to hold the stock from a long-term investment perspective, while being mindful of inherent market risks. For non-allotted investors, Mehta Equities suggests a ‘Wait and Watch’ approach to evaluate any post-listing correction as a potential entry opportunity.

In Tuesday’s session, the Nifty tumbled sharply, snapping its winning streak as broad-based selling hit every sector. However, Thursday’s trade could see a rebound, with Wall Street stabilising and optimism surrounding ongoing India–U.S. trade negotiations. Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal noted that talks on the proposed Bilateral Trade Agreement are progressing, though key issues remain. Yet, the Fed’s uncertain stance on rate cuts continues to weigh on sentiment, keeping markets cautious and range-bound.

Technically, strength is seen only above 26,107, with 26,903 as a key hurdle. Britannia posted a 34% YoY rise in Q2 profit, while Delhivery’s revenue grew 17% despite a loss.

Key earnings to watch include Life Insurance Corp, Chola Finance, Cummins, ABB, Apollo Hospitals, Lupin, and Godrej Properties.

The preferred trades: Nifty (25,598) — Buy at CMP, targets 25,750–26,107; Bank Nifty (57,827) — Buy at CMP, targets 58,000–58,900.

Stocks in focus: Apollo Hospitals, Britannia, Laurus Labs, and M&M, with M&M signalling a strong momentum breakout.

Yesterday’s holiday saved the Indian market getting impacted by the mild turbulence in global markets. Today the scenario is different with stability returning to markets. In the coming days the focus of the market will be the developments in the US Supreme Court which is hearing the petition against Trump tariffs. Observations by some judges that ‘President Trump had overstepped his authority’ is a significant development. If the final judgement goes in line with these observations, there will be major volatility in markets, with emerging markets, particularly India which has been targeted for steep 50 percent tariff, rallying smartly.

For the near-term, however, the resumption of sustained selling by FIIs ( Rs 15336 crores in the last five days) and increasing FII short positions will weigh on markets.

Amruta Shinde, Technical & Derivative Analyst, Choice Broking

Indian equity markets are likely to open on a flat to slightly positive note today, as suggested by the GIFT Nifty, which is trading near 25,733 — about 25 points higher. Investor sentiment remains cautiously optimistic amid mixed global cues and limited domestic triggers.

In the near term, market participants are expected to track global developments, crude oil price movements, and institutional fund flows to gauge overall direction.

In the previous session, the Nifty 50 opened flat but gradually drifted lower throughout the day, reflecting persistent profit booking and a lack of sustained buying interest at higher levels. On the technical front, immediate resistance is placed at 25,700, followed by 25,750 and 25,800, while support is expected around 25,450–25,500. These lower levels could act as potential accumulation zones for positional traders.

The Bank Nifty also mirrored the broader market’s weakness, closing 275 points lower and signaling a temporary pause in its recent recovery attempt. Key support is placed at 57,700, and a decisive break below this level could trigger further downside toward 57,500 and 57,300. On the upside, resistance lies in the 58,000–58,200 zone, and a sustained breakout above this range could extend the rebound toward 58,500.

On the institutional front, Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs) were net sellers for the fourth consecutive session, offloading equities worth Rs 1,883 crore on November 4. In contrast, Domestic Institutional Investors (DIIs) continued their buying streak for the eighth straight session, purchasing equities worth over Rs 3,500 crore, providing some support to the market.

Given the ongoing volatility and mixed global backdrop, traders are advised to maintain a cautious buy-on-dips strategy, particularly when using leverage. Partial profit booking during rallies and the use of tight trailing stop-losses remain essential for prudent risk management.

Fresh long positions should be considered only if the Nifty sustains above the 26,100 level. While the broader undertone of the market stays cautiously bullish, close monitoring of key technical levels and global cues will be crucial in determining near-term market direction.

Ajit Mishra – SVP, Research, Religare Broking

Markets edged lower on the weekly expiry day, with the Nifty 50 slipping 0.7% to close at 25,600. After a flat start, the index faced sustained selling pressure and gradually drifted lower through the session, eventually settling near the day’s low. Sectorally, all major indices ended in the red, with metals and IT among the top laggards. The broader markets also witnessed pressure, declining in the range of 0.46% to 0.8%, reflecting a broad risk-off sentiment.

Profit-taking across heavyweight sectors dampened overall mood, while risk appetite remained subdued amid weak global cues. Additionally, inconsistent foreign institutional investor (FII) flows further added to the cautious tone.

Technically, the Nifty retested its 20-day EMA, and a sustained move below this level could weaken the positive bias, potentially extending the corrective phase toward 25,400. On the upside, 25,800 is likely to act as an immediate hurdle. Traders are advised to align positions accordingly and maintain a strong focus on risk management until a clear directional trend emerges.
