Indian equity indices ended on a negative note with Nifty around 25,500 on June 30. At close, the Sensex was down 452.44 points or 0.54 percent at 83,606.46, and the Nifty was down 120.75 points or 0.47 percent at 25,517.05.

Today, the benchmark indices witnessed profit booking at higher levels. The Nifty ends 121 points lower, while the Sensex was down by 452 points. Among sectors, the PSU Bank index outperformed, rallying 2.6 percent, whereas intraday profit booking was seen in banking and financial stocks. Technically, after a muted open, the market witnessed consistent profit booking at higher levels. A bearish candle on daily charts indicates temporary weakness. However, the short-term market outlook remains positive.

We believe that 25,470/83500 will act as a key level to watch. Below 25,470/83500, we could see a further correction towards 25,375–25,300/83200-83000. On the flip side, a sustained move above 25,470/83500 could push the market up to 25,600/83900. Further upside may also continue, potentially lifting the market to 25,700/84200.

Markets began the week on a soft note, slipping nearly half a percent as they took a breather following the recent surge. After a flat opening, the Nifty gradually drifted lower throughout the session and eventually settled at 25,517.05. On the sectoral front, the trend was mixed, keeping traders engaged—pharma and IT closed in the green, while realty and auto emerged as the top laggards.

Interestingly, the broader indices defied the overall trend and posted gains of over half a percent each. Some profit-taking in the index is natural after a strong uptrend, but trading opportunities remain abundant on the stock-specific front.

We continue to advocate a “buy-on-dips” approach, with a strong emphasis on selective stock picking. Our preference remains with the rate-sensitive sectors—namely banking, financials, auto, and realty—while we advise selective exposure to other sectors. Notably, the ongoing strength in the broader indices is creating additional opportunities, but participants should stay cautious and limit positions to the fundamentally-sound counters only.

The Nifty witnessed some profit-taking as the index closed 152 points off the day’s high. Additionally, it has formed a bearish engulfing pattern on the daily timeframe, indicating fatigue in the ongoing market rally.

In the near term, the index may enter a phase of consolidation. The short-term trend is likely to remain sideways before any decisive directional move. On the downside, a decisive fall below 25,500 could trigger a correction. On the upside, resistance is placed at 25,600 and 25,800.

Today, the Indian stock market closed on a negative note with the Nifty 50 ending around 25,500, down approximately 120 points (0.47%), and the Sensex falling about 452 points (0.54%) to close near 83,606. The market downturn was primarily driven by losses in key sectors such as auto, FMCG, realty, and metals.

Major laggards included Tata Consumer Products, Axis Bank, Kotak Mahindra Bank, Hero MotoCorp, and Maruti Suzuki, which weighed heavily on the indices. Conversely, PSU banks outperformed, with the PSU Bank index rising 2.5%, led by gains in SBI.

Other notable gainers included Trent, Bharat Electronics, and Jio Financial Services, the latter benefiting from recent regulatory clearances enhancing investor confidence in its financial sector expansion.

Last week, the market had seen a sharp upsurge on the back of strong global cues and domestic institution buying, however, profit-taking came to the fore which pulled down benchmark indices.

The focus will be on tariff settlement with the US government, as the due date is nearing and India is yet to conclude the agreement which could create uncertainty amongst the investors. While volatility will continue, India's strong growth prospects going forward would temper the fall.

Rupee traded weak near 85.70, down by 0.21%, as capital market weakness and recent rupee gains prompted profit booking and long unwinding. The pressure came ahead of a crucial week marked by key US data releases and the end of the 90-day extended tariff deadline. Rupee is expected to remain volatile within a range of 85.35 to 86.

The broader markets relatively showed strength, with both Midcap and Smallcap indices rising over 0.50%, outperforming the Frontline Index.

Technically, the Index has formed a bearish engulfing candlestick pattern near the lower end of the bearish gap zone around the 25,650 mark, which now stands as immediate resistance. On the downside, 25,400 will serve as a key support level.

Indian rupee ended 26 paise lower at 85.75 per dollar on Monday versus Friday's close of 85.49.

At close, the Sensex was down 452.44 points or 0.54 percent at 83,606.46, and the Nifty was down 120.75 points or 0.47 percent at 25,517.05. About 2288 shares advanced, 1674 shares declined, and 160 shares unchanged.

Tata Consumer, Axis Bank, Kotak Mahindra Bank, Hero MotoCorp, Maruti Suzuki were among major losers on the Nifty, while gainers were Trent, SBI, IndusInd Bank, Bharat Electronics and Jio Financial.

On the sectoral front, PSU Bank index rose 2.6 percent, while realty, FMCG, auto, metal ended in the red.

BSE Midcap index rose 0.6 percent and smallcap index added 0.8 percent.

COMEX gold slipped below $3,270/oz last week, closing 3% lower and marking its second consecutive weekly decline on reduced safe haven bids easing geopolitical and trade tensions, which reduced safe-haven demand. Additionally, Fed's hawkish stance, amid inflation risks from tariff pressures, weighed further on prices. Today, gold remains under pressure, trading near $3,300/oz, as renewed optimism over global trade negotiations lifted risk sentiment.

In a positive development, Canada has withdrawn its digital services tax on tech firms to help revive trade talks with the US, with both countries now aiming to finalize a deal by July 21. The US is also reportedly close to trade agreements with Mexico and Vietnam, while discussions with India and Japan continue and the EU remains optimistic about reaching a deal by the July 9 deadline.

WTI crude posted a 12% weekly decline, its steepest since 2023, pulling back from a five-month high of $78.4/bbl, as the Israel-Iran ceasefire eased concerns over potential supply disruptions. However, prices held above $65/bbl, supported by a significant decline in U.S. crude and product inventories and President Trump's renewed push for maximum pressure on Iranian oil exports. Market sentiment was also buoyed by a U.S.-China trade truce and expectations of further stimulus from China. Today, oil prices continue to slip, as markets remain cautious ahead of the OPEC+ meeting on July 6, where another 411,000 bpd output increase will be discussed. However, downside may be limited by progress in US-Canada trade talks and skepticism over the stability of the Israel-Iran ceasefire.

Accordingly, the company now holds 100% of equity share capital of White Teak, by virtue of which White Teak has become a wholly owned subsidiary of the company.
