Shrikant Chouhan, Head Equity Research, Kotak Securities
Today, the benchmark indices witnessed a volatile trading session. After a roller-coaster activity, the Nifty ended 31 points higher, while the Sensex was up by 137 points. Among sectors, the Reality index outperformed, rallying 1.10 percent, whereas intraday profit booking was seen in selective Defense and FMCG stocks.
Technically, after an early morning intraday rally, the market consistently experienced profit booking near the 25,200/82300 resistance zone. However, the short-term outlook of the market remains positive. We believe that the 20-day SMA (Simple Moving Average) and the 25,000–24,950/81700-81500 zones will act as key support levels for traders. As long as the market remains above these levels, the bullish sentiment is likely to continue.
On the flip side, 25,200/82300 and 25,275/82500 would serve as key resistance levels for the bulls. For day traders, buying on intraday dips and selling on rallies would be the ideal strategy. However, below 24,950/81500, the uptrend could become vulnerable.
Vinod Nair, Head of Research, Geojit Investments
The domestic equity market started on a positive note, supported by favorable global cues and anticipation surrounding the upcoming earnings season. However, the market ended with flattish gains as expectations for Q2 FY26 earnings remain modest. Market’s short-term focus will shift toward corporate commentary for insights into potential recovery in Q3.
Sectoral performance was mixed, with financial stocks advancing on the back of RBI reforms announced in the last policy meet, whereas FMCG stocks underperformed due to subdued pre-result updates.
Sudeep Shah, Head - Technical Research and Derivatives at SBI Securities
On the weekly expiry day, the benchmark index Nifty extended its upward momentum, continuing its northward journey for the fourth consecutive session. The index touched an intraday high of 25220.90, but faced selling pressure at higher levels, leading to a sharp intraday reversal of nearly 100 points. It eventually settled near the 25100 mark, posting a modest gain of 0.12%.
On the daily chart, Nifty has formed a Shooting Star-like candlestick pattern, characterized by a long upper shadow. This pattern typically reflects profit booking or selling pressure at elevated levels, hinting at potential exhaustion in the ongoing pullback rally.
Among the Nifty constituents, Jio Financial Services and Bharti Airtel emerged as the top gainers, showcasing strong buying interest. On the flip side, Axis Bank and Tata Motors were the major laggards, dragging the index lower.
From a sectoral perspective, Nifty Realty and Nifty Oil & Gas indices outperformed. Meanwhile, Nifty Media and Nifty FMCG indices underperformed, reflecting weakness in select counters.
The broader market continued to show resilience, with Nifty Midcap 100 and Nifty Smallcap 100 indices outperforming the frontline index, ending higher by 0.47% and 0.31% respectively. However, the advance-decline ratio was slightly skewed in favour of the declining stocks, indicating underlying caution. Out of the Nifty 500 universe, 254 stocks closed in the red, highlighting selective profit booking across the board.
Nifty View
The benchmark index Nifty has displayed signs of potential exhaustion in its recent uptrend, as it formed a Shooting Star-like candlestick pattern on the daily chart. This development comes after a sharp pullback rally of over 600 points from its recent swing low of 24587, suggesting that profit booking has emerged at higher levels.
The long upper shadow of the candle reflects selling pressure, indicating that bulls struggled to sustain momentum near the day’s highs. While the index has managed to hold above the 25100 mark, the candlestick formation raises caution about the strength of the ongoing pullback rally.
Going ahead, the next trading session becomes critical. A follow-up correction will be key to validating whether this pattern marks the beginning of a short-term reversal, or merely a pause in the pullback rally.
As the index hovers near a crucial juncture, immediate support lies in the 25000–24970 zone. A decisive breakdown below 24970 could pave the way for a deeper correction, with the next potential downside target near 24800. On the flip side, the 25200–25230 zone will act as a critical resistance. A sustained move above 25230 may signal strength and could reignite the pullback rally, potentially leading to further upside in the short term.
Bank Nifty View
The banking benchmark index, Bank Nifty, witnessed profit booking of over 260 points after hitting an intraday high of 56502. Despite the pullback, the index managed to end on a positive note for the sixth consecutive trading session. On a daily scale, it has formed a bullish candle with a long upper shadow, indicating selling pressure at higher levels.
Going ahead, the zone of 56500-56600 will act as a crucial hurdle for the index. A sustained move above 56600 could trigger a sharp upside rally, potentially extending towards the 57100 mark. On the downside, the zone of 55800–55700 will act as an important support.
Abhinav Tiwari, Research Analyst at Bonanza
Indian equities closed higher today, continuing their recent uptrend despite noticeable intraday volatility, with the Nifty 50 finishing around the 25,108 mark and the Sensex gaining over 137 points and closing near 81,926 levels. This volatility reflected the ongoing tussle between positive domestic factors and cautious investor sentiment ahead of the quarterly earnings season.
Major stocks supporting the move included ICICI Bank, Bajaj Finance, HCL Technologies, and Bharti Airtel. On the other hand, some large stocks like Tata Motors, Axis Bank, TCS, and Infosys saw profit booking, which kept gains in check. Midcap and smallcap indices also ended on a positive note but with more selective buying.
Key takeaways highlight cautious optimism amid sustained DII inflows and improving corporate performance, with investors watching Q2 results closely. While some volatility is expected due to profit booking in select sectors, the broad trend points to steady recovery driven by strong domestic demand, favorable government policies, and global cues. Investors are advised to focus on sectoral themes like IT, private banks, and consumption plays while managing risks from external uncertainties
Jateen Trivedi, VP Research Analyst - Commodity and Currency, LKP Securities
Rupee traded slightly higher by 0.06rs at 88.74, witnessing limited volatility as FII selling eased and crude prices remained soft. However, the rupee continues to hover near lower zones, keeping concerns of further weakness alive, possibly toward 90 levels if sentiment worsens.
This week’s focus remains on Fed Chair Powell’s speech, the release of Fed meeting minutes, and key U.S. data on unemployment and nonfarm payrolls, which could induce sharp volatility. The rupee range is expected between 88.45–88.95.
Vatsal Bhuva, Technical Analyst at LKP Securities
After three consecutive confident closings, Nifty faced selling pressure near its resistance zone of 25200–25250 on Tuesday’s session, indicating that bulls might take a pause, leading to a possible short-term consolidation. However, as long as the index sustains above 24900 levels, where its 50-day EMA is placed, the outlook remains positive.
On the derivatives front, both call and put writers were active, with notable OI additions at the 25000 put and 25200 call strikes. Hence, Nifty is expected to trade in a range of 24950–25300, with support at 24950–25000 and resistance at 25250–25300.
Currency Check | Rupee ends flat
Indian rupee ended flat at 88.78 per dollar on Tuesday versus Monday's close of 88.79.

Ross Maxwell, Global Strategy Lead at VT Markets
Gold prices have broken above $3,900 for the first time, driven on the back of robust safe-haven demand due to rising worldwide uncertainties and changing expectations of Federal Reserve policy shifts. Although Jerome Powell's cautious rhetoric hardened the dollar post-the recent rate cut, the overall sentiment for gold remains supremely bullish. The stagflation risk, weaker growth with lingering inflation, remains on demand's side, and further rate cuts due later this year might give some more tailwinds.
Although gold is still in an overbought state and has broken significant resistance levels, short-term corrections will only be the result of profit-taking and not a fundamental reversal. The surge is also supported by ETF inflows, central bank purchases, and geopolitical worries that continue to drive investors to seek safety.
The long-term trend remains encouraging as long as there is solid bullish momentum, even though the $4,000 level can be viewed as psychological resistance. For investors who want to profit from gold's reputation as a safe-haven asset and hedge against risks, a dollar-cost averaging strategy is still a good option.
