Osho Krishan, Chief Manager -Technical and Derivative research at Angel One
The Indian equity markets exhibited notable resilience over the week, despite experiencing mounting pressure until a recovery was observed in the final session. The benchmark index effectively upheld the pivotal support level of the 50-DEMA. The modest rebound observed in the most recent session has revived hopes of a potential rebound in the forthcoming week. Consequently, the ongoing contest between market forces persists, with the Nifty50 index concluding the week around 25970, representing a weekly decrease of 0.31 percent.
The index has encountered constraints on making any substantial moves, as evidenced by the Inside Bar formation on the weekly chart, which indicates a lack of robust development. The challenges near the 20 and 50 DEMA levels have been prominent; while the index has recently surpassed the 20 DEMA, we remain cautious, as we are not yet fully cleared of potential obstacles. From a technical standpoint, the 25850-25800 zone is likely to cushion any intermediate shortcoming, while the sacrosanct support is placed around the 25700 zone, which has safeguarded the benchmark over the last two weeks. On the flip side, a decisive surge beyond 26050-26100 could only provide some amount of respite to the bulls and could pave the way for the lifetime zone of 26300-26325 in the coming future.
As we proceed, it is advisable to adopt a pragmatic approach until there is greater clarity regarding prevailing trends. It is essential to focus on the key thematic drivers amid current sectoral fluctuations. Furthermore, remaining informed about global developments that may act as catalysts for our market trends is prudent, while also diligently monitoring the currency markets.

The Nifty has witnessed a breakout from a falling wedge pattern, indicating improving market sentiment. Additionally, the index has reclaimed the 21-day EMA on the daily chart. After finding support near the 50-day EMA, the index recovered towards the 26,000 mark.
Going forward, 26,000 will be a key level to watch; a decisive move above this level could propel the index towards 26,300. On the downside, immediate support is placed at 25,900, which is likely to act as the first line of defense for the Nifty.

Sudeep Shah, Head - Technical and Derivatives Research at SBI Securities.
Nifty opened with a gap-up start but spent most of the session consolidating within a sideways range of 25,993–25,880. Importantly, the index rebounded from its 50-day EMA and managed a close above the downward-sloping trendline resistance on the daily chart. A similar setup was observed on 12th December, when Nifty bounced from the 50-day EMA but failed to sustain higher levels. This time as well, a strong follow-through move is crucial for the pullback to extend further on the upside.
On the sectoral front, Nifty Realty ended the day as the top sectoral gainer, followed by Nifty CPSE. On the other hand, Nifty Capital Market emerged as the lone sectoral loser. With regards to stocks, Shriram Finance and Max Health emerged as the top stock gainers amongst the Nifty pack while HCL Tech & Hindalco emerged as the top two losers.
Midcap Nifty witnessed strong buying interest near its 100-day EMA in the previous session and followed through on the positive momentum in today’s session. The index continued to move higher, reflecting improving risk appetite and selective accumulation in the midcap space.
The Smallcap Index outperformed the benchmark today, indicating relatively stronger participation. However, it still trades below its key short-term and long-term moving averages, suggesting that while momentum is mildly improving, a sustained trend reversal is yet to be confirmed.
The market breadth improved with the advance-decline ratio skewed in the favour of bulls at days close. A total of 383 stocks out of the Nifty 500 universe ended in green.
Nifty View
Going ahead, for Nifty, the previous swing high zone of 26,050-26,100 will act as important resistance. Any sustained move above the 26,100 level could trigger a pullback upto the 26,300 level, followed by 26,500. On the downside, the 50-day EMA zone of 25,800-25,750 will act as a crucial support for the index.
Bank Nifty View
Bank Nifty traded in a largely sideways manner throughout the session and continues to hover around its 20-day EMA. The index has yet to deliver a decisive close above this level and remains below the upward-sloping trendline resistance on the daily chart. Bank Nifty relatively underperformed versus the benchmark Nifty today and bank need clear strength for the sectoral momentum to improve.
Going ahead, 59,200-59,300 will act as important resistance for the index. Any sustainable move above the 59,300 level will lead to the Index pulling back higher upto the 59,700 level, followed by 60,100 level in the short term. While on the downside, the zone of 58,700-58,600 will act as an important support for the index.

Vinod Nair, Head of Research, Geojit Investments
Global equities rallied as US CPI undershot estimates, reinforcing expectations of a softer Fed stance despite concerns over data reliability amid the shutdown. Investors now look for signals on the Fed’s 2026 easing trajectory. Meanwhile, the BoJ raised its policy rate by 25 bps to a three-decade high, a move that could reshape global liquidity trends.
Domestically, strong global cues and bargain hunting lifted indices, with large-cap stocks leading gains. Oil prices continued to soften on oversupply concerns and subdued growth outlook. While sentiment remains constructive, near-term volatility may persist amid uncertainty over trade deal timelines and upcoming macro data releases.

Vatsal Bhuva, Technical Analyst at LKP Securities
On the weekly chart, the Bank Nifty index formed a doji candlestick, highlighting indecisiveness among market participants. In Friday’s session, the index once again failed to close above its 10-day SMA, keeping short-term sentiment cautious. A few more consolidation sessions are expected, with the index likely to trade in a narrow range between 58,800 and 59,500 levels. The undertone remains bearish as the index continues to stay below its short-term moving averages.
A decisive breakout above 59,500 or a breakdown below 58,800 will determine the next directional move. Immediate support is placed at 58,800, while resistance stands at 59,200 and 59,500 levels.

Aakash Shah, Technical Research Analyst at Choice Equity Broking
Nifty Smallcap 100 is currently undergoing a corrective phase after a strong long-term uptrend and is trading around the 17,140 level. The index has witnessed notable profit-booking from its recent peak near the 19,000 zone, leading to a decline toward the 17,000 support area. However, recent price action indicates attempts to stabilize at lower levels, suggesting emerging buying interest and the possibility of short-term base formation.
From a technical perspective, the index is trading below its 20-week and 50-week exponential moving averages, reflecting near-term weakness and cautious sentiment. These moving averages, positioned in the 17,600–17,800 zone, are acting as immediate resistance levels. Meanwhile, the index continues to trade above its 100-week EMA, indicating that the broader market structure remains intact despite the ongoing correction.
A sustained weekly close above the 20-week EMA would signal early signs of strength and could attract incremental buying interest. Further confirmation of a trend reversal would come from a decisive breakout above the 50-week EMA, potentially opening the door for a stronger recovery phase.
On the downside, the 16,800–16,700 zone serves as a crucial support area and acts as an important stop-loss for positional traders. A breach below this zone could extend the correction towards the 15,765 level, which marks the swing low of May 2025 and represents a key medium-term demand zone where buying interest previously emerged.
If Nifty Smallcap 100 manages to sustain above 17,800, it could gradually move higher toward the 18,800–19,000 zone, aligning with prior swing highs and a major resistance area. Volume expansion on upward moves will be critical in validating the strength and sustainability of any recovery in the index.

Listing was in line with our expectation and even market mood supported the debut. Post listing the valuations now are inline with all the peers in the same business. With strong pedigree of ICICI Bank and Prudential, robust digital adoption and low concentration risk across schemes, we believe ICICI Pru AMC could command a premium valuation multiple than its peers.
Given its dominant market position and long-term tailwinds from financialization of household savings. Accordingly, we recommend investors to “HOLD allotment for the long term.”
For non-allotted investors, we advise against chasing the stock on listing day and suggest waiting for more reasonable entry levels post listing, as near-term volatility or price consolidation cannot be ruled out amid cautious market sentiment.

Sanjay Kumar, CEO & MD, Rassense
The Indian food services sector is gearing up for the next Union Budget with a cautiously optimistic view, hoping for a policy that acknowledges its significant contribution to employment and urban consumption. The industry has been running on tight margins due to high input costs, rentals, and compliance expenses and thus, the sector is anticipating a GST rationalisation, especially input tax credit benefits for organised players, which will not only improve viability but also lead to formalisation. System incentives to promote skill development, food safety upgrades, and technology adoption across supply chains also align the sector's expectations.
The sector as well the economy would benefit well if energy-efficient kitchens and waste management solutions get budgetary support as sustainability is being increasingly focused on. The industry as a whole needs the Budget to strike a balance between affordability and business sustainability, thus paving the way for long-term growth in the Indian food services sector that is undergoing rapid evolution.

Ross Maxwell, Global Strategy Operations Lead, VT Markets
Foreign portfolio investors (FPIs) have continued to withdraw from Indian equities toward the end of 2025 due to a mix of global and domestic factors rather than a an overall loss of confidence.
From a global level, higher-for-longer interest rates in the US and a stronger USD have raised the relative attractiveness of developed-market assets, reducing the risk premium for emerging markets like India. Persistent geopolitical uncertainty, trade issues, and tighter global liquidity have created a risk-off stance as we come to year end, a period when FPIs typically rebalance portfolios and lock in gains or cut risk. Domestically, overstretched equity valuations after years of outperformance have made India comparatively expensive versus other emerging markets. Concerns around fiscal pressures, policy uncertainty, and rupee volatility have also contributed.
A large part of the 2025 selling reflects rotation rather than an outright exit, with FPIs reallocating toward markets offering either deeper value or more immediate cyclical upside. Looking ahead to 2026, the outlook is more complex than a simple continuation of outflows.
While broad-based inflows may remain limited if global rates stay elevated, selective re-entry is likely, especially into sectors aligned with India’s medium-term growth drivers such as manufacturing, infrastructure, defence, capital goods, and energy transition. FPIs are expected to favour balance-sheet strength and earnings visibility, which could result in occasional spikes in volatility rather than a smooth inflow trend. 2026 will likely see flows turning opportunistic rather than uniformly bullish.
