Alia Bhatt's latest film Jigra, co-starring Vedang Raina, hit theaters on Friday, October 10, releasing across more than 3,000 screens in India. Despite the extensive release, the film struggled at the box office, earning only Rs 4.25 crore nett on its opening day. This marks Alia’s weakest opening since her 2014 film Highway.
As per Sacnilk, Jigra, which was released in both Hindi and Telugu, saw an overall occupancy rate of 20.13 percent in its Hindi version, bringing in Rs 4.2 crore across 2,900 shows. In contrast, the Telugu version had a much smaller release with only 42 shows, witnessing a slightly higher occupancy of 20.17 percent but managing to earn just Rs 50,000.
Jigra encountered competition from Vicky Vidya Ka Woh Wala Video, featuring Rajkummar Rao and Triptii Dimri, which debuted with Rs 5 crore and had around 3,500 shows, according to Sacnilk. This gave Rao and Dimri's film a slight advantage over Alia Bhatt's release at the box office.
Highway, released during the early stages of Alia Bhatt's career, earned Rs 3.4 crore on its opening day but eventually raked in Rs 30 crore nett in India. Since then, Alia has gone on to deliver a series of box office hits, including Raazi, Gangubai Kathiawadi, Dear Zindagi, Udta Punjab, Brahmāstra, and Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani, cementing her position as one of Bollywood's leading actors.

Interestingly, Jigra marks Alia Bhatt's sole release for 2024. Prior to this, she was seen in Karan Johar's Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani alongside Ranveer Singh, which turned out to be a box office success.
Alia Bhatt has two major upcoming projects on her slate. She will next appear in YRF's Spy Universe film Alpha alongside Sharvari Wagh. Additionally, she is set to star in Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Love & War, where she will share the screen with her husband Ranbir Kapoor and her Raazi co-star, Vicky Kaushal.
