Mumbai Police are on high alert after a detailed bomb threat was sent to the city’s traffic police via its official WhatsApp number, sparking a major security response ahead of the Anant Chaturdashi festival.

The threat message, received on Friday, claimed that 34 human bombs had been strategically placed across the metropolis. It further warned that the city would "shake after the blasts,” according to a report by FPJ. The sender, identifying himself as a member of a Pakistan-based jihadi group, invoked the name “Lashkar-e-Jihadi” and alleged that 14 Pakistani terrorists had already infiltrated Mumbai.

In a chilling detail, the message claimed that 400 kg of the high explosive RDX would be used in the planned attacks, which it alleged could kill “up to one crore people,” a claim that has been met with extreme seriousness by authorities due to its timing during a major festival.

Police sources confirmed that the threat is being treated with the utmost seriousness. Cyber units and anti-terror squads have been enlisted to trace the origin of the message, which was sent to the Mumbai Traffic Control Room. This incident follows a recent series of threatening calls and emails to the police force, raising concerns over public safety during the ongoing festive season.

In response, security has been significantly intensified across the city. Patrols and checks have been bolstered at vital junctions, locations hosting large religious processions and other crowded public spaces to prevent any potential disturbance.

Senior officials, quoted by FPJ, stated, “We are investigating the source of the WhatsApp message and verifying its authenticity.” They urged the public to remain vigilant but calm, adding, “Citizens are requested to remain calm and report any suspicious activity immediately.”
