An Indiana-based lawyer named Mark Zuckerberg filed a lawsuit against Meta’s chief executive, also named Mark Zuckerberg, after repeated suspensions of his Facebook accounts on the grounds of alleged impersonation.
The bankruptcy lawyer, who shares his name with the billionaire technology executive, said his accounts had been wrongly flagged for years by the platform. Speaking to Indianapolis station 13WTHR, he remarked: “It’s not funny. Not when they take my money. This really pissed me off.”
According to the lawyer, his business account was shut down five times in the past eight years, while his personal account was removed on four separate occasions. “And using a false name! Which I’ve had way longer than he has,” he said. “I’ve got better things to do than sue Facebook. They have more money and more lawyers and more resources than I do. I’d rather not pick a fight with them, but I don’t know how else to make them stop!”
The attorney explained that he had not turned to legal action immediately. Each time his accounts were suspended, he contacted the company directly and in some instances received an apology by email. However, the issue continued to resurface.
“I did everything they asked me to do, like I always do. They ask you to appeal if you think your suspension is not proper. I filed the proper appeals with them the very next day and I’ve heard nothing from them and it’s been four months. The last time they did it, it was over six months before they turned my account back on. So I don’t know how else to get their attention,” he said.
He added: “For somebody who purports to be one of the leading tech companies in the world, and they can’t stop doing this? And they can’t seem to get their appeal process to work? I think they have a problem.”
Zuckerberg claimed the repeated bans had hindered his professional work, disrupting communication with clients. He further alleged that he lost thousands of dollars spent on advertising his law practice through the platform.
In his lawsuit, he asked Meta to restore his account permanently, along with compensation for lost advertising expenses and legal costs. The lawyer expressed confidence in his case, stating that he believed he would succeed in court.
