Alia Bhatt has come a long way in showbiz to know what truly matters and what doesn’t. The actress, who is neck-deep in shooting for Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Love & War alongside Ranbir Kapoor and Vicky Kaushal, confessed that her idea of self-care may not be conventional, but true joy for her lies in balancing her professional life with motherhood.

In a chat with Grazia, the actress admitted that while many mothers don’t find the time for themselves, for her, doing things she enjoys, like being on a film set or working out, are her ways of staying happy. “This is what I love doing. Even going for a workout is me prioritising myself – I’m working out and my daughter is also there running around, or me reading a book,” she said.

The actress doesn’t believe in holidays as a form of rejuvenation. Instead, she feels that making the most of each day and finding happiness where you are are the true markers of success. She also follows simple rituals to keep herself calm amid the chaos.

“My dad always says that you need a holiday from a holiday – you sometimes come back from one even more exhausted. You have to be comfortable in your own bedroom, it’s as simple as that and I think simple measures like no social media, not looking at the phone first thing in the morning, not letting it disrupt your energy, just working out, reading, doing all those things that just centre yourself,” she added.

Alia acknowledged her privilege even when she struggles to find time for herself — for her gratitude outweighs complaints. “It’s not like self-care isn’t important, every person has to find their own space and time. I keep coming back to the fact that I can’t sit and complain that I  don’t have self-time – it’s too much for me to not acknowledge how privileged I am and for me to be like ’okay I have this problem or that’,  for me I’m just always counting my blessings and being very grateful for what I have.”
