Net foreign acquisitions of long-term securities, short-term U.S. securities, and banking flows was a net TIC inflow of $102.1 billion in March 2024, up from a downwardly revised $42 billion inflow in the previous month. Of this, net foreign private inflows were $30.3 billion, and net foreign official inflows were $71.7 billion. Foreign residents increased their holdings of long-term U.S. securities in March; their net purchases were $178.4 billion. Net purchases by private foreign investors were $152.2 billion, while net purchases by foreign official institutions were $26.2 billion. U.S. residents increased their holdings of long-term foreign securities, with net purchases of $78.0 billion.
