Dos: Practice these tips for a healthy vagina:

Drink ample water

Adequate hydration is vital for the healthy functioning of a body. Include vaginal moisture and lubrication for a healthy genital environment.

Practice safe sex:

Using protection during intercourse helps to prevent sexually transmitted infections and maintain a healthy vagina.

Choose breathable fabrics:

Opting for cotton underwear allows proper airflow, reduces the moisture and also  the risk of potential infections.

Eat healthy foods:

Food keeps you alive and healthy foods help you live longer and healthier. A nutrient-rich diet supports immune function and contributes to a healthy vaginal ecosystem.

Keep it clean:

When you clean your external vaginal area, make sure you do so gently. You may use mild soap and water. Always avoid harsh cleansers, in order to maintain the natural pH balance.

Do yoga daily:

A lot is said about the importance of physical activity for good health. Physical activity, including certain yoga poses help to improve blood circulation and contribute to a healthy pelvic floor and good vaginal health. Also, strengthening pelvic muscles through Kegel exercises enhances vaginal tone and prevents  issues like urinary incontinence.

Visit the doctor:

If an infection or pain persist, make sure to visit your doctor. Scheduling routine gynecological exams helps in early detection of potential issues.

Use lubrication:

Lubricants play a vital role in sexual health and help reduce friction during intimate activities.  They are particularly beneficial in cases of vaginal dryness, Plus, lubricants contribute to the prevention of microtears in the genital area, which can occur with insufficient lubrication.

Sleep time is important:

Quality sleep not only supports the body's healing processes but also promotes vaginal health.

Consume probiotics:

Including probiotics into your diet helps to maintain a healthy balance of beneficial bacteria and supports the vaginal microbiome.

Buy menstrual products with care:

Always choose sanitary products carefully. When buying pads, consider your comfort and sensitivity, as poor quality pads or tampons may affect your vaginal health.

Don’ts: Here is what you should steer clear of:

Do not douche:

Douching is the practice of cleaning the vagina with water or other fluids. This may  disrupt the natural pH balance and can lead to various health risks, including infections and irritation. Thus, avoid douching.

Abstain from frequent use of antibiotics:

Excessive use of antibiotics can hamper the balance of vaginal flora and may also lead to infections.

Say no to tight clothing:

Tight clothes trap the moisture and further create an environment conducive to bacterial growth. Avoid wearing tight clothes, choose loose-fitting clothes instead.

Never ignore signs and symptoms:

If you frequently face unusual symptoms like itching, discharge, or discomfort, then do not ignore these signs. Visit your doctor as early intervention may help prevent complications.

Ditch those scented products:

The vagina is designed to be self-cleaning. The natural processes within the vagina, including the production of mucus and the shedding of cells, help maintain its cleanliness and pH balance. Therefore avoid using scented products in the genital area as they may cause irritation and disruption of the natural pH balance.

Keep the area dry:

Ensure that your vaginal area stays dry, as excess wetness may lead to discomfort. Change your sanitary napkin at regular intervals. Also, change out of wet swimwear  to reduce the likelihood of infection and irritation. Besides, over-washing can also strip the vagina of natural oils, leading to dryness and irritation.

Refrain from processed foods:

Diets high in processed foods and sugars can impact vaginal health negatively. Limit your fast food intake.

Avoid unsafe sex:

Unprotected sex can expose you to various sexually transmitted infections (STIs), and increase the risk of transmission. Such practices can lead to unintended pregnancies and may contribute to the spread of antibiotic-resistant strains of certain infections.

Avoid constant panty liner use:

Wearing panty liners consistently may not be healthy as they can lead to chafing and irritation. Opt for cotton-lined underwear and change it daily, or even more frequently if necessary. Never reuse the same underwear the next day.
