It’s been over a week since Diwali ended, yet the leftover sweets and festive treats are still calling from the air-tight dabbas. However, it’s time to get back to healthy habits and detox your body.

Diwali celebrations are joyous, but the indulgence often leaves us craving balance. Dr Anindita Sarkar, Chief Medical Officer,  Clinikally, tells Moneycontrol: “Bringing back your body  to a healthy routine can seem challenging post celebrations. That’s because your body signals the need to regain balance. What you eat and how you recover directly impacts your skin’s glow, digestion, and energy.

Speaking about making subtle lifestyle changes, Dr Sarkar says, “Detoxing doesn’t have to be harsh. Simple changes, hydration, wholesome food, gentle movement, quality sleep, and gut care—can help your system reset naturally.”

Drink sufficient water:
  • Boost your metabolism by starting your day with lukewarm water and lemon. Drink at least 2.5-3 litres of water everyday. Remember to keep carry a bottle when out.
  • Apart from drinking water, add coconut water, herbal teas, or buttermilk to soothe digestion and replenish electrolysis
Follow light, fibre-rich diets
  • Focus on simple, wholesome meals like vegetable khichdi, dal soup, and steamed vegetables.
  • Include fresh fruits, salads, and sprouts to help sweep toxins out and aid digestion.
  • Eat mindfully, in moderate portions, and stop when satisfied.
Stay away from refined sugar
  • Avoid artificial sweets, packaged snacks, colas, and bakery items for 1–2 weeks.
  • Swap cravings for natural sugars in fruits, dates, or jaggery.

  • Start with 20–30 minute brisk walks; walking after meals aids digestion.
  • Include yoga, stretching, or light cardio to boost circulation and lymphatic drainage
  • Exercise should energise, not exhaust.
Prioritise and protect sleep
  • Aim for 7–8 hours of uninterrupted sleep.
  • Stick to a regular sleep schedule, limit screen time before bed, and try calming rituals like reading or warm turmeric milk.
Rebalance your gut with probiotics
  • Include curd, buttermilk, or kefir to support healthy gut bacteria.
  • This helps digestion, reduces bloating, and can strengthen immunity.

Dr Sarkar concludes, “A post-festive detox is about returning to sensible habits. Gentle, consistent care will help you feel lighter, brighter, and ready for your routine—until the next celebration.”
