‘Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny’ actor Phoebe Waller-Bridge’s new ‘Tomb Raider’ series has been given the green light at Amazon Prime Video. The actress will write and executive produce the series.
The show will be based on the famous character of Lara Croft who is an archeologist in the ‘Tomb Raider’ video game. The character was previously played by the Hollywood actresses Angelina Jolie and Alicia Vikander.
According to Variety, the first announcement of the series was made in January 2023.
On Tuesday, Amazon had the Upfront presentation held at the Pier 36 event space in New York City. Amazon revealed the ‘Tomb Raider’ green lit announcement during the event.
The chief of Amazon MGM Studios, Jennifer Salke said, “Phoebe has a lifelong love affair with Lara Croft and as soon and very soon we’ll start the worldwide search for who will play this iconic role and I just can’t wait.”
Phoebe Waller-Bridge released a statement shortly after the news was made public, “If I could tell my teenage self this was happening I think she’d explode. ‘Tomb Raider’ has been a huge part of my life and I feel incredibly privileged to be bringing it to television with such passionate collaborators. Lara Croft means a lot to me, as she does to many, and I can’t wait to go on this adventure. Bats ‘n all.”
No cast for the new series has been decided or revealed as of yet. Phoebe Waller-Bridge, despite being a huge ‘Tomb Raider’ fan, will not be starring in the show.
Amazon recently released another video game adaptation titled ‘Fallout’, named after the video game. The series has received raving reviews and has become a hit for the streaming platform. According to Variety, ‘Fallout’ has become the 2nd most watched series ever on the service.
