Aadhaar

The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) offers the Aadhaar Paperless Offline e-KYC feature, allowing Aadhaar holders to verify their identity securely without sharing their Aadhaar number or biometrics. This offline method ensures privacy, is voluntary, and works even without an internet connection.

How to download Aadhaar Paperless Offline e-KYC
1. Visit the UIDAI website or open the mAadhaar app.
2. Enter your Aadhaar number or Virtual ID (VID).
3. Type the security code displayed on the screen.
4. Click on Send OTP and enter the OTP received on your registered mobile number.
5. Create a Share Code (password) of your choice — this code will protect your e-KYC ZIP file.
6. Click on Download to get the digitally signed XML file.
7. The downloaded ZIP file will be protected with your Share Code.

How to share Aadhaar Paperless Offline e-KYC

Once downloaded, you can share your e-KYC data with any service provider in one of two formats:
• Digital format (XML/PDF): This is ideal when a high-quality photo is needed.
• Printed format (QR Code): Suitable when you prefer a physical copy.

To share:
• Send the ZIP file along with the Share Code to the service provider.
• The provider can extract the file using the Share Code and verify the data digitally signed by UIDAI.

Things to keep in mind
• The Aadhaar number itself is not revealed; only a reference ID is shared.
• UIDAI digitally signs the file to prevent tampering.
• No biometric data (fingerprint or iris) is required.
• The process is voluntary and depends on the holder’s consent.
• The service provider must not share your XML file or Share Code with third parties as per the Aadhaar Act, 2016.

What information is included in the e-KYC file

The offline e-KYC XML file contains:
• Name, Address, Gender, and Date of Birth
• Reference ID (last 4 digits of Aadhaar + timestamp)
• Hash of registered mobile number and email ID
• Photograph of the Aadhaar holder
