Apple’s next MacBook Pro tipped to offer slimmer design, OLED display, and touch support: Report

Apple is reportedly preparing a major redesign for its upcoming MacBook Pro lineup with M6 chipsets. This design overhaul could include OLED displays with touch support, a thinner chassis, and a Dynamic Island-style cutout, marking Apple’s first major revamp since 2021.

Recently, Apple introduced its latest in-house M5 processor with its new MacBook Pro models. However, the design of the company’s Pro series has remained relatively unchanged since 2021, with the Cupertino-based tech giant focusing on providing an internal speed bump rather than a dramatic design or display overhaul. Thankfully, a new reliable report suggests that Apple plans to address this with rumoured additions of a new OLED display and a touchscreen for its higher-end M6 Pro and M6 Max MacBook Pro models.

Apple MacBook Pro 2026 models to get OLED and touch screen support

According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, Apple could be working on its first major MacBook Pro redesign since the 2021 models. The next-generation models could feature an OLED display, exclusive to the higher-end M6 Pro and M6 Max models. These laptops could arrive between late 2026 and early 2027, and are also tipped to introduce a thinner and lighter chassis, touch-enabled screens, and possibly built-in 5G connectivity.

While this redesign and touchscreen support will be limited to the M6 Pro and M6 Max models, the entry-level MacBook Pro will likely continue with its current design and miniLED display for the next generation at least. Moreover, Apple’s M6 Pro and M6 Max chip-powered MacBook Pro models are expected to deliver major performance and efficiency gains.

Currently, Apple offers three MacBook Pro configurations: an M5-based 14-inch entry model, and two higher-end 14-inch and 16-inch variants powered by the last generation M4 Pro and M4 Max SoCs. Gurman also previously suggested that Apple is expected to launch a new affordable MacBook next year, which will cost less than the MacBook Air, available for around $1,000.
