Apple iOS 26.2 rolling out to iPhones: New features, how to update and more

Apple has officially begun rolling out iOS 26.2 to iPhone users globally. The update focuses on refining user experience elements introduced with iOS 26, addressing security vulnerabilities, and adding practical features across music, podcasts, accessibility, gaming, and safety. iOS 26.2 is available for iPhone 11 and newer models and can be downloaded over the air through the Settings app.

One of the key changes in iOS 26.2 is improved control over the Liquid Glass design language introduced earlier this year. Apple has added an opacity slider for the lock screen clock, allowing users to adjust transparency for better readability.

Apple Music now supports offline lyrics, enabling users to view synced lyrics without an internet connection. The app also introduces a new Favorite Songs playlist under Top Picks, automatically curating frequently played tracks.

The Podcasts app gains auto-generated chapter markers, making episode navigation easier. It also adds tappable links within transcripts when other podcasts are mentioned, simplifying discovery.

For gamers, iOS 26.2 brings library filters to sort games by size and category, real-time challenge score updates, and improved controller support for accessories such as Backbone and Razer controllers. The Freeform app now supports tables, while the Home app simplifies pairing multiple accessories.

Region-specific updates include Live Translation support with AirPods for users in Europe and the option in Japan to replace Siri with third-party assistants on the side button, enabled by local regulations.

iOS 26.2 patches two WebKit vulnerabilities that Apple says may have been exploited in targeted, sophisticated attacks. The company recommends all eligible users update promptly.

For users in the US, Enhanced Safety Alerts have been added, offering detailed maps and guidance during floods, natural disasters, and emergencies. AirDrop now requires one-time verification codes when sharing with unknown users, adding an extra security layer.

To install iOS 26.2, ensure your iPhone is connected to Wi-Fi and has sufficient battery or is plugged in. Open Settings, go to General, tap Software Update, and select Download and Install if the update appears.

iOS 26.2 is available for iPhone 11 and newer models through Settings > General > Software Update.
