A Delhi-based lawyer has publicly shared his frustrating experience with Amazon India after ordering an iPhone 15. Mukund P. Unny, an advocate in the Supreme Court, took to X (formerly Twitter) to narrate the incident, which began with his decision to trade in his iPhone 13 for a new iPhone 15 through the e-commerce platform.
According to Unny, the delivery process began smoothly with an Amazon delivery executive arriving at his home the following night. After exchanging his old phone for the new one, he provided the necessary one-time password (OTP) as part of the procedure.
However, the delivery executive then requested an additional OTP, which Unny did not have. The executive subsequently called his supervisor, leading to a confusing situation where Unny was asked to return the new phone because the "exchange was not final."
This is the story of my worst experience with @amazonIN . On 21.07.2024, I ordered iPhone 15 from Amazon in exchange for my iPhone 13. On 22.07.2024, the delivery executive came at around 930 PM. I gave the OTP and took the product, and gave my phone to the executive. 1/9

Despite the Amazon app indicating the product had been delivered, Unny was persuaded by the supervisor to return the new phone with the assurance that the exchange would be reattempted the next day. He complied, taking down the contact details of both the supervisor and the delivery executive.
The following day, Amazon customer care advised Unny to wait until the end of the month while the incident was investigated. A few days later, he was informed that a refund could not be initiated. Unny expressed his frustration on social media, stating, "Now, we are staring at a loss of ₹38,000 and a possible scam done by supervisor, delivery exec and others at Amazon. If they say that the exchange is done, then they can very well see the old phone that I still use with me."

In a subsequent twist, Unny received another call from the supervisor of the delivery agent, instructing him to go to a specified location and hand over his current iPhone for processing, with a promise of delivering the new product 24 hours later. Unny suspected this was a scam.
The post quickly gained attention online, prompting a response from Amazon Help, which advised Unny to reach out via direct message for further assistance. The incident sparked a discussion among other users who shared their own negative experiences with the platform.

One user recounted, "Something similar happened to me also. Returned a product from Amazon. A pick-up boy who came never marked the item pick-up done even after picking it up. Followed up multiple times with Amazon. Nothing happened. I lost the money."
Another user commented, "I had a very similar experience with Amazon and Flipkart as well. Both the time the delivery agent said that the exchange will be done by a different team. This was quite a while back though, the issue has not been rectified it seems. Avoid exchange if you can, just buy."
"Not surprised at all. Not iPhone but a product of about Rs 500 was stolen by executives of @amazonIN in similar fashion where they showed delivery but it was never given. Then a fake investigation was done & it was never given. I had to bear the loss," a third user remarked.
Meanwhile, in an update to the incident, Unny shared that Amazon had finally initiated a refund. "It was harrowing to go through the process, but of course, some light at the end of the tunnel. Thanks for all the support, guys," he wrote.
