Nifty remained volatile ahead of the Bihar election results. The technical setup, however, remains intact, with the index comfortably placed above the 21EMA. The RSI has entered a positive crossover with a reading above 60, indicating strong price momentum.
An extension of today’s volatility is expected tomorrow. Technically, immediate resistance is placed at 26,000; a decisive move above this level might trigger a rally towards 26,200/26,350.
On the lower end, immediate support is placed at 25,800, below which the current rally might lose some steam.
Shrikant Chouhan, Head Equity Research, Kotak Securities:
Today, the benchmark indices witnessed profit booking at higher levels. The Nifty ends 3 points higher, while the Sensex was up by 12 points. Among sectors, the Infra index was up by 0.50 percent, whereas the Défense and Digital index lost the most, shed nearly 1 percent. Technically, after a promising uptrend rally, the market witnessed some profit booking at higher levels. However, the short-term outlook remains positive.
For traders, the 20-day SMA (Simple Moving Average) at 25,750/84200 would act as a crucial support zone. As long as the market is trading above this level, the bullish momentum is likely to continue. On the higher side, 26,000/85000 would act as an immediate resistance zone for the bulls. A successful breakout above 26,000/85000 could push the market up to 26,100/85300.
On the flip side, if the market falls below the 20-day SMA at 25,750/84200, it is likely to retest the levels of 25,650-25,600/84000-83700.

The Indian markets closed with marginal gains today. Nifty 50 settled at 25,879.15, up by 3.35 (0.01%), while the Sensex ended at 84,478.67, up by 12.16 (0.01%) from the previous close. Both indices traded in a narrow range and recovered from early losses, as investors remained cautiously optimistic amid low inflation data and mixed global cues. Sectorally, IT and metals saw some buying interest, while FMCG and select financials were laggards. Top Nifty 50 gainers included Asian Paints, Hindalco, and ICICI Bank.
The CPI for October 2025 dropped to a record low of 0.25% YoY, the lowest in the current CPI series. The decline was mainly driven by deepening food price deflation, a strong base effect, and reductions in the prices of essentials. This is leading to a rising expectations of rate cut in the upcoming RBI policy meeting.
Additionally, the Union Cabinet has approved the Export Promotion Mission (EPM) with an outlay of Rs 25,060 crore for FY26-31 to boost India’s export competitiveness. The mission replaces multiple fragmented schemes with a unified, digitally driven framework and will prioritize support for sectors hit by recent global tariff escalations such as textiles, leather, gems & jewellery, engineering goods and marine products. Overall, markets traded in a narrow range with a balanced breadth, reflecting a wait and watch attitude ahead of upcoming global economic data, US-India trade deal, Bihar Elections and the RBI policy meeting.

The benchmark index Nifty maintained its bullish undertone for most of the trading session, supported by positive sentiment and selective buying across key sectors. However, the momentum faltered near the psychological 26000 mark, triggering a wave of profit booking that erased early gains. As a result, the index slipped from its intraday highs and eventually closed below 25900, registering a marginal uptick of 0.01%.
On the daily chart, Nifty has formed a high-wave candle for the second consecutive session, a pattern that typically signals uncertainty and indecision among market participants. This cautious tone comes ahead of the Bihar state election vote counting, which is expected to influence short-term market dynamics.
Within the Nifty constituents, Asian Paints and Hindalco emerged as the top gainers. On the flip side, Eternal and TMCV were among the major laggards, dragging the index lower. Sectorally, Nifty Metal and Nifty Realty outperformed. Conversely, Nifty PSU Bank and Nifty Media witnessed notable selling pressure.
The broader market painted a contrasting picture as Nifty Midcap 100 and Nifty Smallcap 100 underperformed the frontline indices, ending the day in negative territory. Market breadth remained weak with the advance/decline ratio skewed towards decliners, as 315 stocks from the Nifty 500 universe closed in the red, underscoring the dominance of profit booking across segments.
Nifty View
Going ahead, the 25760–25730 zone will act as an immediate support area for the index. A break below 25730 could trigger profit booking toward 25560. On the upside, the 26000–26030 zone will act as a key resistance, and a sustained move above 26030 could open the gates for further upside toward 26180 in the near term.
Bank Nifty View
For the banking index, the 57900–57800 zone will serve as immediate support. A breach below 57800 could extend the decline toward 57400. Conversely, the 58500–58600 zone remains a critical resistance, and a sustained breakout above 58600 could drive the index toward 59000 levels in the short term.
Vinod Nair, Head of Research, Geojit Investments
National equities closed flat after a positive session, as profit-booking erased early gains despite optimistic global and domestic cues. Sentiment was buoyed by Trump signing a short-term funding bill to end the U.S. government shutdown and hopes of tariff relief for India.
The record-low October inflation prints reinforced expectations of an RBI rate cut, making rate-sensitive sectors like metals and realty attractive to investors. However, amidst continued outflows from FII and a weak rupee, profit-booking emerged at elevated levels ahead of the Bihar election results, which left the benchmark indices largely unchanged by the close.
Jateen Trivedi, VP Research Analyst - Commodity and Currency, LKP Securities
Rupee traded flat in a narrow range near 88.67, as market participants remained cautious ahead of the Bihar election outcome due Friday morning, leading to a muted trading session. Additionally, traders awaited the release of U.S. CPI data, which is expected to influence dollar index movements and, consequently, rupee trends. With limited triggers in the interim, the rupee is likely to stay range-bound, with the trading range expected between 88.40–88.95.

Rajni Thakur, Chief Economist, L&T Finance
Headline CPI inflation at 0.25% in October, its lowest reading in the series, is a culmination of many supply side factors- Prices of perishables including vegetables and fruits continue to decline on back of strong supply conditions, GST rate cuts for key consumption items since September 22nd has lowered prices of most consumer products and global uncertainties have kept fuel prices in check as well. Demand conditions, however, remain healthy as indicated in the 4% range for core inflation and key services component viz Health and Education.
Going forward, trajectory for headline is expected to turnaround as base effect support starts to recede. Nevertheless, an overall positive trend in agricultural output and lower global oil prices will likely keep CPI levels close to the lower end of RBI’s target level for inflation for the rest of the current fiscal year.
This definitely creates ample policy space for RBI to cut REPO rate. However, early indicators point towards strong growth momentum, which along with rising bond yields presents a tough conundrum for MPC to balance the rate cut justification and efficacy at this point.
