Both Sensex and Nifty added on to their respective morning gains on Thursday with the Nifty inching up 47.45 points at 10,032.80 and the Sensex adding 132.86 points at 31,966. The midcap index held on to its positive trend led by CESC, GMR Infra, Godrej Industries and Just Dial.
Within the Nifty50 Index, the top gainers were Bharti Infratel which zoomed 6.3 percent followed by Hindalco Industries, Vedanta and Lupin. Sun Pharma along with TCS which is due to declare its Q2 results later in the day was up close to 1 percent. On the other hand, Bombay Burmah, Sundaram Fasteners and National Aluminium were some of the top gainers in the BSE.
Bank Nifty was almost trading flat with stocks like HDFC Bank which was up 0.5 percent along with Axis Bank and IndusInd Bank which were trading in the positive territory.
Stocks that hit 52-week high on the Nifty included names like Nestle India, Birla Corp, Goa Carbon and KRBL while the stocks which hit 52-week high on the BSE were Bata India, NIIT Tech and Sundaram Clayton.
The market breadth was in favour of the advances with 32 stocks advancing and 18 declining. The advance decline ratio for the BSE Index was also in favour of the advances with 1553 advances as against 880 declines.
