Pop star Jessie J has returned to the hospital just six weeks after undergoing surgery for early-stage breast cancer. The 37-year-old singer shared the unexpected development with her fans through a candid update on Instagram Stories, revealing that she experienced a sudden health scare that brought her back to the same hospital ward where she had her operation.

“How I spent the last 24 hours,” Jessie wrote alongside a photo of an IV in her arm. “6 weeks post surgery and I was back in the same ward I was after my surgery. Not expected or planned.”

The singer revealed she had been experiencing alarming symptoms that raised fears of a possible blood clot in her lungs. “I had and still have symptoms that pointed towards a blood clot on the lung,” she explained, before assuring fans, “IT IS NOT A BLOOD CLOT THANK GOD.”

Although doctors ruled out a clot, they did detect an infection and some fluid on her lungs. “They ran a lot of tests which ended up showing I have an infection (still trying to figure out what) and a little fluid on my lungs. Finding it hard to breathe in,” Jessie shared. Despite her discomfort, she chose to discharge herself and will continue treatment as an outpatient, saying, “I hate being in hospital.”

The incident comes just two months after Jessie publicly announced her breast cancer diagnosis. Since then, she has been open about the emotional and physical toll of the illness, especially while balancing her role as a mother to a toddler.

“The recovery physically is far from quick or easy, and mentally it’s been the most challenging time for me,” she previously shared. “Especially as a mum with a toddler and being unable to be the mother I usually am.”

Jessie also reflected on the difficult decision to pause her career plans. “Having to change the plans for my career for this year has been frustrating after working so hard to get to this point,” she said. “But it’s life. I know that.”

Despite the setbacks, Jessie remains resilient, finding strength in her support system and accepting the need to slow down. “I love moving and working and being up and active but I can’t be right now… and that’s what it is,” she wrote.
