Sumalatha Ambareesh, an actress and politician, shared her thoughts in a heartfelt message, addressing the public and her followers. She revealed her long-standing relationship with Darshan, stating that he is like a son to her. In her message, she wrote, "You do not understand the bond between my family and Darshan’s family. I have known him for 25 years, even before he became a star. Beyond his stardom, Darshan is like a family member to me, like a son." She emphasized that this close relationship has influenced her perspective on the case, making it difficult for her to believe the accusations against him.

Sumalatha's statement was a response to criticism she faced for remaining silent since Darshan's arrest. Many questioned her loyalty and support for Darshan, given their close bond. Addressing this criticism, Sumalatha explained that her silence was not due to a lack of support but rather the complexity of the situation. She expressed her deep emotional connection to Darshan and the pain she feels seeing him in such a predicament. "No mother likes to see her son in such a situation," she added, highlighting the maternal feelings she has towards him.
The case against Darshan is severe, with technical investigations and CCTV footage indicating that he and his friend Pavithra Gowda were present at the crime scene on the night of June 8th and 9th. The police reports suggest that Renukaswamy, a 33-year-old fan of Darshan, had sent obscene messages to Gowda, which allegedly enraged Darshan, leading to the murder. Renukaswamy's body was discovered near a stormwater drain in Sumanahalli on June 9th. The investigation also revealed that Darshan's mobile number was detected in the crime scene’s mobile network area between 11 pm and 3:30 am, further complicating his defense.
Despite the evidence presented by the authorities, Sumalatha firmly believes in Darshan's innocence. She stated, "I know Darshan as a man with a loving and generous heart. His compassion for animals and willingness to help those in need testify to his character. I believe Darshan is not the type of person to commit such a crime." Sumalatha's statement reflects her trust in Darshan's integrity and her hope that the truth will eventually prevail.
Sumalatha also urged the public to allow Darshan a fair trial. She emphasized that being accused does not equate to guilt and that the legal process should be allowed to take its course without undue public pressure or prejudice. "Darshan is still an accused; nothing has been proven against him, nor has he been punished. Let Darshan get a fair trial," she pleaded, reminding everyone of the principle of presumed innocence until proven guilty.
The actress-politician's defense of Darshan is rooted in her personal experiences and observations of his character over the years. She recounted instances that showcased his compassion and kindness, further supporting her belief in his innocence. Sumalatha's emotional plea has resonated with many of Darshan's fans and supporters, who also hope for a just resolution to the case.
As the legal proceedings continue, Sumalatha's support adds a significant dimension to the public discourse surrounding the case. Her insistence on Darshan's good character and her call for a fair trial highlight the complexities involved when personal relationships intersect with legal issues. The coming weeks will be crucial as the investigation unfolds and more evidence comes to light, determining the course of justice in this high-profile case.
