Metro operations in Bengaluru were halted for 15 minutes after a woman jumped onto a metro track to get her phone back, a New Indian Express report said.
The incident took place on Monday evening between 6:40-6:55 pm at the Indiranagar metro station, situated in the eastern part of the city, when the woman accidentally dropped her phone onto the track and jumped to retrieve the device. On noticing the woman jump onto the track, metro officials switched off the power supply.
"A woman waiting at Indiranagar Metro Station platform 1, going towards Baiyappanahalli, dropped her phone around 6.40 pm. She decided to pick it up before the train arrived, and jumped after it."
"She grabbed her phone but could not climb back, and other commuters had to help her back onto the platform. A Metro official on the platform pressed the emergency trip system which cut off the power supply to the tracks," A S Shankar, a senior official in the metro said.
The halt in train operations affected several commuters travelling on the east-west line of the metro and led to large crowds at the other stations, especially the Nadaprabhu Kempegowda Metro Station-the interchange station between the two existing lines of the Bengaluru metro.
"I had to wait for 20 minutes at Cubbon Park to catch a train. It was peak evening hour and I’ve never had to wait like this. We were told to alight at Kempegowda Interchange Station and take the next train. There was a huge crowd there," a commuter named Narayanan Murthy told The New Indian Express.
The woman managed to slip away in the commotion, escaping any kind of penalty for her action.
