To help with the rush during New Year celebrations, Bengaluru Metro extended its services and slashed ticket prices to Rs 50. Visuals shared recently from the metro stations show the area chock-a-block with passengers and left several social media users feeling thankful that no one was hurt in the massive crowd.
The Bengaluru Metro Rail Corporation (BMRCL) recorded 6.26 lakh passengers and earned Rs 1.64 crore on New Year's.

The first video was recorded from from Luminier Building, adjacent to MG Road Metro Station and the second one is of Trinity Metro Station. In the second video, a few security officers were seen attempting to manage the huge crowd but were severely outnumbered.
Reacting to the video, many X users called the situation "a recipe for stampede."
"This is just a recipe for a stampede... Metro stations need much more staff for such days to manage queues," commented Anish Bakshi (@anishbakshi). "It's a miracle that no stampede etc. happened or no untoward incident happened," added another user (@anil9464).
Echoing similar sentiments, X user Tabrez Nasar (@TabrezNasar) wrote, "Thankful to God almighty from the bottom of my heart that there was no stampede like mishap!" while another user Suresh Chandrasekara (@csuresh2001) said, "Scary - easily a stampede situation, many lives could be lost."
Other users commented on the peer pressure to visit MG Road and Brigade Road during New Year's Eve.
"This is called 'monkey does what other monkeys do'," said @livnletliv27. "These people are mad and simply trying to copy what others are doing and others also don't know what they are doing but they are also doing it because others are doing it. New Year celebration is madness."
"Hope all of them enjoyed well in that crowd! I still don't understand how can someone enjoy like this - with a crazy crowd that you can't even breathe properly!" added @thereal_ravan.
More than 1 lakh revellers had gathered on Bengaluru's MG Road and Brigade Road on December 31 to ring in the new year amid heavy police security with thousands pouring in even after 10 pm, leading to long queues and overcrowding at several venues, the Times of India reported. The celebrations continued well after 1 am on January 1.
