A man has been arrested for allegedly assaulting a five-year-old boy in Bengaluru's Thyagarajanagar area, an incident that was caught on CCTV and later went viral. The accused was subsequently released on bail, police said.

The incident occurred on December 14 when the child, Neiv Jain, was playing near his grandmother's house with other children. According to the complaint filed by the boy's mother, Deepika Jain, the accused suddenly approached and kicked the child, causing him to fall on the road.

Police identified the accused as Ranjith, also known as Ranjan, a resident of the same locality. He is a former gym trainer who had quit his job. CCTV footage shows the man walking up to the children, kicking the boy without provocation, and then walking away as the child lay injured on the road.

The complainant alleged that her son was kicked "like a football," resulting in bleeding above his eyebrow and abrasions on his hands and legs. She also claimed that the accused is known in the area for assaulting and abusing people.

Based on the complaint, a non-cognisable case was registered under Section 115(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023. Police arrested the accused and later released him on bail. Further investigation is underway.
