An Indian Air Force (IAF) Wing Commander posted in Raipur and involved in anti-Naxal operations in Chhattisgarh died by suicide at his residence on Wednesday morning, PTI reported.

The deceased, Wing Commander Vipul Yadav, 39, was posted in tasks related to anti-Maoist operations.

According to the police, the officer’s wife was not present at the house, as she had travelled to Delhi for work. Initial probe suggests that the couple had been facing personal issues and frequent disagreements, the PTI report said. As per the officials, these problems could have been a possible reason behind the officer’s extreme step, though the investigation is still ongoing.

According to Additional Commissioner of Police Ramakant Sahu, the officer’s domestic help first found him hanging with a rope from the ceiling fan inside his room at his residence in Vidhayak Colony under the Telibandha police station area on Wednesday morning.

At the time of the incident, the officer’s two children were sleeping in another room and were not aware of what had happened.

No suicide note was found at the scene, PTI reported.

Soon after receiving the information, senior police officers and a forensic team reached the residence to examine the scene and collect evidence. The body was later sent for a post-mortem examination after the necessary legal procedures were completed.

ACP Sahu said the officer had been posted in Chhattisgarh as part of responsibilities related to anti-Naxal operations, as quoted by PTI.

Police said the officer’s wife had earlier served in the Air Force and is currently working in the IT sector in Bengaluru.

The couple had a love marriage in 2014, as per the report. The deceased officer was originally from Azamgarh in Uttar Pradesh. Authorities are questioning family members and examining his mobile phone as part of the investigation.
