A software engineer from Bengaluru died after falling from the 33rd floor balcony of his friend’s flat. He was 27. The incident happened at Bhattarahalli near KR Pura in east Bengaluru on Friday morning.
The deceased, identified as Divyanshu Sharma, allegedly slipped from the high-rise building’s balcony after trying to dispose cigarette ash, Times of India reported. The man then fell near the walking track of the apartment complex, preliminary police investigation revealed.
Sharma was working as an engineer at a private company and was living in Kodigehalli (KR Pura). According to the police, he hailed from Uttar Pradesh and his father is said to a retired Indian Air Force employee who lives in Horamavu with other family members.
The man had decided to catch a movie show at Phoenix Mall in Bengaluru on Friday. However, the group got late and decided to party at a pub in Indiranagar and returned to the friend’s flat at 2.30 am. He told his friends he would clean the room before the accident. However, he slipped while flicking cigarette ash from the balcony.
“Everyone was asleep and Divyanshu decided to clean the room which was filled with ash and cigarette buds as they partied the whole night. It looks like he slipped from the balcony of 33rd floor while throwing the ash outside,” KR Puram police told Hindustan Times.
Society members found the body early in the morning and informed other residents through their common WhatsApp group.
“The body was found close to the playground, and the person’s ID card was used to identify him,” a policeman said. The autopsy report to verify the cause of death is also awaited. Sharma’s friends have been questioned regarding the case.
